From the Original Records presented
to Harrison Co. Historical Society
by Earl R. Buley.
“Palmyra, Ind. August 27, 1964. The
original Record is owned by Mrs.
Christine Martin Schamel, Greenville, Ind.
Miss Ruth Hon didn’t number the pages
of her record, so after some one
had cut a number of pages from the old book and some of these missing,
I found it hard to piece the story together. Spelling and dates are as
she gave them. Nothing is told of why membership lists are repeated.
Mr. Brackin wrote the latter part of this record.”
“Elizabeth Hon, Aug. 21, 1833, letter
to her Beloved Breathern. Church
of Christ, Indiana Creek, Bethel Meeting House, Greeting send to our
Beloved Breathern when met in a conferential (sic) capasity (sic).
Dear breathern as it has heretofore
been a coustom among the churches
to hold friendly corispondance (sic) by letter we think it not
imprudent for us to menifest that friendly disposition that Christians
should have for each other.
Dear Brethren we desire that
Christian Love and fellowship may abound
at this conference and threwont all the churches of God promiscuously
whare they may be. We wish nothing but the Gospel for our criterian,
believeing it to be a Sufficen government for the Church of Christ, to
be governed by ‘Tharefour Brethern we wish the prosperity of Zion to
flourish every whare, and that the Christian religion may prevail evry
whare and that all Christians may have the unity of the spirit and the
bonds of peace. We further desire that all jars anamositys, divisions
and envyings among all Gods people may be done away and that we may
unamimously take the word of God as it is and be governed thereby,
believe it, practise it and obey it.”

“Rev. Stevens conducted a revival
meeting Oct.7, 1917.”
“This is the last entry and I think
Miss Hon updated their membership
list since they excluded a number of people down through the years.”
The author has tried to list most of
the people who were members, but
with them repeating the list so many times it is impossible not to miss
a few. There were about thirty pages of names to go through.
