Biography of :
Henry H. DEVORE

Henry H. Devore, resident of Harrison county, was born in Hart County, Kentucky, Jan. 14, 1846,
being the youngest of twelve children born to Philip Devore, a native of Kentucky,
and a grandson of Philip Devore, Sr. of Pennsylvania. Philip Jr., the father of Henry,
married Eunice Reese, the daughter of Philip Reese.

Philip DeVore, Jr. emigrated from Kentucky to New Albany, about 1850 and died in 1867
his wife died about 1853-55.

Henry enlisted in Co. C, Forty-ninth Indiana Vol. Infantry, Sept. 30th, 1861.
In February, 1864 he veteranized and served until the close of the war, being discharged Sept. 13th, 1865.
He was married Jan. 29th, 1872 to Miss Eliza C. Cromwell, daughter of Lewis and Mary Cromwell.
They had three children:

  • Mary E., born Sept. 29, 1879
  • Viola, born March 15, 1882
  • Rose M., born April 5th, 1866
