THE HISTORY OF HARRISON COUNTY

Harrison County was established December 1, 1808 and was the fourth county
organized in Indiana.
Harrison County was taken out of Knox and Clark Counties

Corydon is the County seat and was once the Indiana State Capital.
On May 1 1813, the capital of the Indiana Territory was removed from
Vincennes to Corydon, and the original stone building used as the
Capital building still stands. Near this building, under an elm tree,
the first constitution of the State of Indiana was written.

Harrison County is divided into twelve Civil Townships,
Blue River, Boone, Franklin, Harrison, Heth, Jackson, Morgan,
Posey, Spencer, Taylor, Washington and Webster.

Scott Township is now included in Harrison County.
