“Some time before 1860, a group of people gathered at a building,
possibly a school building, located on or near the ridge between what
is now Davis s Quarry and the present Mt. labor Church building, for
the purpose of worship. After a time of meeting there, the group
divided and those living to the north put up a log meeting house on
land donated by Adam Dietrick, and established the Mt. labor
Congregation on June 2, 1860. Those living to the south continued
worshiping at the former location for awhile.
June 5, 1865 Be it remembered that a number of the Christian brethren
and sisters of the Mount labor School House Congregation met at their
new meeting house, located on the road leading from Corydon to
Fredericksburg, 11 miles from the former and 6 miles from the later
place on the 2nd. day of June 1860, for the purpose of organizing
themselves into a body of worshipers and putting themselves in full
church organization.
Whereupon Nathan Voyles was called to the chair to preside over the
meeting and John Roberts, John W. Stone were chosen secretaries. The
president declared the object of the meeting to be organized.
On motion the above named new meeting house bare (sic) the name and
title of Mount labor Meeting House. On motion the following
constitution was unanimously adopted.

Written by N.J. Wolfe:
Some of the proceedings, I know from first hand, other we have written
record of, and the rest I have heard from other generations, no longer
with us. “The log meeting
house was replaced by a frame building, dedicated Sept. 5, 1886. This
building burned on Aug. 25, 1946. The present auditorium was built the
following year, with the congregation meeting in the Hancock School
House. The service in the new building was held June 20, 1948.
In the April 3rd., 1974 tornado, the building was blown off the
foundation and severely damaged. The building was put back on the
foundation, repairs were made, rest rooms rebuilt and a baptistery and
dressing room were added across the front of the building; with the
front entrance moved to the side, where a porch was added. The building
was repaired and ready for services by July, 1974.
Keturah Voyles, wife of Nathan Voyles, was the first person
buried in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. She died Feb. 21, 1868.
We do not have any deed given by Adam Dietrick. I don't know if there
was ever a deed given at the time, but I an doubting that there was.
