Resolution of Respect
Whereas, it has pleased God in his
infinite wisdom, to remove from our
midst our brother, Henry Bachman, who departed this life Monday, March
7, at the age of 72 years and two months. Whereas, by his death, “The
Lanesville Mutual Aid Society” has lost a good and faithful member (a
charter member) and the entire community a good citizen, and his wife
and children a kind, loving and Christian husband and father; be it,
therefore, Resolved, That we deeply deplore the loss of such a good
member, of noble character and good qualities; and we extend our hearty
sympathy to the bereft wife, children and relatives in their
bereavement; while words may be of little good, may our true and
brotherly love, fully show memories of our dearly departed brother, and
aid, to his living wife and children. Resolved, that these resolutions
be entered on our minute book; that a copy be sent to the bereft
family, and to each of the county papers for publication, and that our
charter be draped in mourning for thirty days.

Our beloved and esteemed friend,
Henry Bachmann, who departed this life
on Monday afternoon, March 7, 1904, was born January 7th, 1832, in the
village of Bondorf, State of Baden, Germany. He immigrated with his
parents to this country about 55 years ago. They landed in New Orleans,
La., where he remained 2-1/2 years, working near the famous French
Market, on his shoemaker trade. After that they moved to Louisville,
Ky., where he got married to Miss Magdalena Tash. It’s now over 40
years since he lived near Louisville. Mr. Bachmann possessed, among his
weak, many good qualities he was only too liberal and too good for his
own good, was a true and faithful member of the Catholic Church, and a
great benefactor and a great friend and admirer of religious
literature. Deceased leaves a pious and devoted wife, four sons and
three daughters, also three brothers. One of his brothers is a divine
minister of the Gospel; is at present Chaplain at the celebrated St.

by his many friends, and also by the members of the “Lanesville Mutual
Aid Society,” of which benevolent order he was a charter and faithful
member. Our sympathy to the bereaved family.

CORYDON DEMOCRAT OBITUARY – 04/22/1931
. Ozra Jennison Dodge Byrne died
quite suddenly at his home at
Byrneville at 5:30 o’clock last Saturday morning following an hour’s
illness of heart trouble. Funeral services were held at the Latter Day
Saint Church at Byrneville at two o’clock last Monday afternoon. The
services were conducted by the Rev. Frederick A. Smith, of
Independence, Missouri, Patriarch of the Latter Day Saint Church, who
was assisted by the Rev. Horace Souner, the M. E. pastor at Georgetown.
Music was furnished by a male quartette from Georgetown, composed of
Walter A. Oster, Earl E. Oster, Stanley Klethley and Jesse Teaford,
accompanied on the piano by Mrs. H. K. Engleman. The Improved Order of
Red Men, of Greenville, and members of the Masonic Lodges of Crandall
and Corydon attended the funeral and conducted services at the grave,
according to the rites of the two orders, respectively. Mr. Byrne was a
member of both of said fraternal orders. He was also a beloved and
devoted member of the Latter Day Saint Church at Byrneville. The burial
was at Byrneville. The deceased came from one of Harrison County’s
pioneer families. He was born at Byrneville March 12, 1858, the son of
Temple C., and Sarah Belle Byrne and at his death he was aged
seventy-three years, one month and six days. He spent his entire life
at Byrneville, except for a short time the past few years, which he
spent at Georgetown. For many years he was engaged in the mercantile
business at Byrneville. And he was very popular with his business
patrons. He leaves surviving him his wife, four sons and one daughter,
Charles Monroe Byrne and Mrs. William E. (Blanche Beatrice) Kiesler, of
this county, Prof. Herman Dewitt Byrne, and Basil Underwood Byrne, of
Kent, Ohio, and Dr. Marie Mitchell Byrne, of New Albany. He also leaves
twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Byrne was
formerly Miss Mary Ellen Mitchell, daughter of William and Minerva
Mitchell. She and Mr. Byrne were married on May 1, 1879. Seven children
were born to this union, the five who survive, and one daughter, Icy
Myrtle, and one son William Temple who preceded their father in death.
Mr. Byrne was one of Harrison County’s best citizens. He was a
gentleman always, and was kind and gentle in his manners. He was a
devoted Christian, and lived a clean honorable life. He had many
friends in Harrison and Floyd Counties who will sincerely mourn his
departure from among us. We take the following from the obituary, which
was read at the funeral by Mrs. Lena Keene, of Louisville. It very
properly and correctly tells the story of Mr. Byrne’s character and
life: “Ozra loved the community which bears the ancestral name and in
which his entire life was spent. It’s deepest interests, sorrows and
associations were his. He was a faithful adherent to the faith of the
Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints to which communion he was
united in 1894. His affiliation with the Masonic Order and the improved
Order of Red Men is a further expression of his fraternal and
benevolent spirit. To all his associations he gave a true allegiance,
holding his numerous friends and associates in closest comradeship. His
business and social integrity, his affable and wholesome personality,
his depth of human sympathy and sincere interest in the welfare of his
fellow men endeared him to the hearts of all who knew him.”
