SILVER LAKE CEMETERY

HARRISON COUNTY INDIANA

This cemetery is in the northern part of Harrison county, Indiana, near what was known as Silver Lake.
This lake, which was drained several years ago, covered twenty-six acres.
The McKinzies were settlers on the lake farm, while the Haines family settled in Washington county,
about 1 1/2 miles west of Silver Lake. There are several graves which are not marked

Phebe
(maiden name Haynes) wife of Alexander McKenzie died July 29, 1849 Age 35 yrs 9 mo and 35 days
[Alexander was the son of Roderick and Dolly McKenzie]

Summers Dean
died Aug. 27, 1849 Age 42 yrs 7 mo and 20 days
[Summers was the son of Nathan Dean and Mary (Polly) Summers]
[Summers Dean and Mary Dean were siblings]

Phebe Mar. 28, 1831- Oct. 18, 1851
[daughter of John and Mary McKinzy (sic)]

Mary McKinzie born July 1 1801 died 1853
[wife of John McKinzie]
[Daughter of Nathan Dean and Mary (Polly); named in will of Daniel Dean]

John McKinzie, consort of Susannah (maiden name Goldsberry) and wife of Mary McKinzie died Mar. 27, 1859 aged 60 yrs 9 mo and 11 days
[doesn't make sense, but that is how it was written]
[Son of Roderick and Dolly McKenzie]

Rebecca Dean born Feb. 14, 1813 died June 27, 1852
[daughter of Benjamin and Mary Haines]
[wife of Daniel Dean]
[daughter of Benjamin Haines, named in Will of Benjamin Haines born about 1790, and according to probate of his estate, and filed in Harrison County]

Julia A. Haines born Oct. 8, 1825 died Aug. 14, 1827

Elizabeth Haines born Feb. 24, 1812 died Dec. 29, 1833
Parents Mary Haines born 1787 died Jan. 1839 age 52 yrs and 9 days
[Is the Mary wife of Benjamin or wife of Samuel?]

Samuel Haines died June 1849 age 60 yrs 10 mo and 12 days

Ruth Haines died 1849 age 30 yrs 1 mo and 14 days

In 2004 I made a trip to Harrison County to visit the cemeteries my ancestors were buried in. We could not find this cemetery and when we finally found someone to help
us he said "it is in the middle of my cornfield and you can't get there right now, come back after harvest and I will show you where it is."

In 2005 my cousin Monica Mathena  went to Harrison County to take pictures of the headstones in this cemetery for me. These pictures are what she found.
I can't believe someone would have the disrespect for a cemetery and let this happen to it.
