pneumonia October 1, 1918. Buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrison
County, Ind.
BENNETT, ROSCOE - - - Private Son of Roscoe and Anna Bennett; born
September 7, 1890, Evans Landing, Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered
service October 4, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Trained at Camp Taylor, Ky.,
Camp Sevier, S. C., and Camp Merritt, N. J. Assigned to Company L,
120th Infantry, 30th Division. Overseas May 17, 1918. Died of wounds
October 10, 1918, received in action, Vaux Andigny, France. Buried at
St. Souplet, Nord.
BIRD, CHARLES H. - - - Private Son of Martin and Millie Jane Bird; born
June, 1898, Crawford County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army
May 7, 1917, Evansville, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; assigned
to Company A, 6th Infantry; Company A, 53rd Infantry, 2nd Training
Battalion, 26th Infantry; Company D, 26th Infantry. Sailed for France
January 12, 1918. Killed in action July 20, 1918, Soissons, France.

April 26, 1897, Corydon, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 26, 1918,
Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 22nd Company, 6th
Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died of broncho-pneumonia
October 2, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried in Jordan Cemetery, four
miles south of Corydon, Ind.
BREWER, WILLIAM McKINLEY - - - Private Son of Charles (deceased) and
Matilda K. Brewer; born near Elizabeth, Harrison County, Ind. (Date not
given). Entered service, (date unknown). Sent to Camp Meade, Md., and
assigned to 7th Infantry. Sailed overseas. (Date not given). Died of
influenza December 9, 1918, France. Body returned to the U.S., and
buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Harrison County, Ind. (Record incomplete).
BROWN, PLEASANT - - - Private Son of Irwin C. and Matilda J. Brown;
born February 17, 1902, Corydon, Ind. Laborer. Entered service May 28,
1918, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 48th Company,
12th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Beauregard,
La.; assigned to Company A, 127th Infantry. Overseas August 6, 1918.
Died of wounds October 30, 1918, received in action at Verdun. Buried
in American Military Cemetery No. 297, Grave 234, Marne-et-Loire,
France.
BROWNING, GEORGE - - - Private Son of John and Sarah Ellen Browning;
born June 5, 1886, St. Charles, Mo. Moved to Milltown, Crawford County,
Ind. in 1893. Laborer. Entered service June 5, 1917, Corydon, Ind.
Trained at Camp Sherman, Ohio; and later transferred to Camp Niagara,
N. Y. Assigned to Company K, 334th Infantry, 84th Division. Died of
disease October 14, 1918, Camp Niagara, N. Y. Buried at Milltown, Ind.
CAUGHLIN, JAMES RUSSELL - - - Sergeant Son of Calvin D. and Emma M.
Caughlin; born September 16, 1895, Corydon, Ind. Timekeeper for Inland
Steel Company, Indiana Harbor, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April
30, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Trained at Ft. Thomas, Ky., Plattsburg
Barracks, N. Y., and Camp Greene, N. C. Sailed overseas May 13, 1918;
assigned to Headquarters Company, 16th Field Artillery, 4th Division.
Died of wounds August 12, 1918, received near Vesle River. Buried near
Fismes, France.
CHAFFIN, RAYMOND - - - Private
Son of George W. and Elizabeth Chaffin; born January 5, 1894, Corydon,
Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 20 1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent to
Camp Taylor, Ky., where he served as Cook. Sent to Camp Sevier S.C.;
assigned to Company C assigned to Company C, 335th Infantry; later to
Company E, 119th Infantry, 30th Division. Embarked May 11, 1918. Fought
in battle of Ypres, Bellecourt. Wounded in battle September 29, 1918,
and died October 1, 1918. (Place of burial not known).
COOMBS, CHARLES W. - - - Private
Son of Sarah E. Byrne; born March 27, 1898, near Byrneville, Harrison
County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted July 24, 1917, New Albany, Ind. Trained
at Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company M, 152nd Infantry. Died of
disease December 13, 1917, Camp Shelby, Miss. Buried at Byrneville,
Harrison County, Ind.

Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered sen-ice July 24, 1918, Corydon,
Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 58th Company, 15th Training
Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.;
assigned to Company G, 9th Ammunition Train. Died of lobar pneumonia
October 26, 1918, Camp McClellan. Buried at Woods Chapel, south of
Ramsey, Harrison County, Ind.
DAVIS, RAYMOND C. - - - Private
Son of James C. and Mecia Davis; born January I5, 1893, Jackson
Township, Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 24, 1918,
Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company D, 45th
Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Niagara,
N. Y., where he died of pneumonia, October 11, 1918. Buried at Woods
Chapel, south of Ramsey, Harrison County, Ind.

Infantry; Company L, 335th Infantry. Overseas September 3, 1918;
assigned to Company D, 28th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action
November 7, 1918, Sedan, France. Buried in Harrison County, Ind.

Farmer. Entered service October 5, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp

120th Infantry, 30th Division. Sent to Camp Merritt, N. J.; embarked
May 17, 1918. Died of wounds August 5, 1918, at No. 44 Casualty
Station. Body returned, and buried in Mt. Solomon Cemetery, Harrison
County, Ind.

Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 22, 1917,
Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company C, 335th
Infantry. Transferred to Camp Sevier, S. C.; assigned to Company K,
119th Infantry, 30th Division. Overseas May 12, 1918. Killed in action
October 11, 1918, in Somme Offensive. Buried in British Military
Cemetery No. 642, St. Souplet, Nord.
HEINTZ, CLARENCE - - - Private
Son of Philip and Barbara Heintz; born March 12, 1893, near Bradford,
Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service February 25, 1918,
Calhoun County, Iowa. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa; assigned to Company B,
320th Machine Gun Battalion. Sailed for France April 30, 1918. Killed
in action at Fleville, Ardennes, October 23, 1918. Buried south of
Fleville, France.
KITTERMAN, EDWIN CLYDE - - - Private
Son of Henry Clay and Sarah Kitterman; born February 24, 1891, New
Middletown, Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 20,
1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company C,

K, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. Embarked May 17, 1917. Killed in
action September 29, 1918, near Bellecourt, France. Buried in American
Cemetery No. 636, Bony Aisne, France.

Son of Michael and Angeline Kopp; born November 15, 1887, Harrison
Township, Harrison County, Ind. Painter. Entered service (date unknown)
South Bend, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Supply
Company, 138th Infantry. Overseas October 19, 1918. Died of disease
October 29, 1918, in England. Body returned to U.S., and buried in
Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrison County, Ind.
LOUDEN, WILLIAM HOBART - - -Seaman, 2ND Class
Son of John R. and Ida Louden; born October 19, 1896, Moberly, Harrison
County, Ind. Attended two terms at Indiana Central University. Teacher.
Entered U.S. Navy June 4, 1918, Louisville, Ky. Sent to Great Lakes
Naval Training Station, Ill., July 7, 1918. Transferred to Puget Sound
Navy Yards, Wash., where he died of disease October 11, 1918. Buried,
Moberly, Harrison County, Ind.
MAUCK, BENTLEY - - - Private
Son of Sam C. and Lucina Mauck; born August 22, 1893, Harrison County,
Ind. Engineer. Entered service September 20, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent
to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company L, 335th Infantry. Transferred
to Camp Sevier, S. C.; assigned to Company K, 120th Infantry, 30th
Division. Embarked May 12, 1918. 'Died of wounds September 3, 1918,
received while fighting with British forces. Buried in Military
Cemetery near Esquelvecq, Nord.
MEYER, FRANK EUGENE - - - Sergeant
Son of George and Lucy Gresham Meyer; born July 1, 1893, Lanesville,
Harrison County, Ind. Motorman and conductor. Enlisted in Regular Army
May 10, 1917. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to Company H, 38th
Infantry. Sailed overseas March 29, 1918. Killed in action near
Romagne, October 8, 1918. Awarded Distinguished Service Cross for
extraordinary heroism in action near Romagne, October 8, 1918. Buried
in Argonne-American Cemetery, Romagne Grave No. 128, Sec. 10, Plot 3.
MILLER, JONATHAN LEE - - -Seaman, 1st Class
Son of James H. and Phoebe Miller; born December 9, 1890, Mauckport,
Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered U.S. Navy December 13, 1917, Des
Moines, Iowa. Assigned to U.S. Battleship, New Hampshire. Fell
overboard accidentally, and was drowned September 17, 1918. Body never
recovered.
PEASE, JASPER L. - - - Private
Son of Washington B. and Samantha Pease; born June 24, 1893, Scott
Township, Harrison County, Ind. Farmer and laborer. Entered service
September 20, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to
Company C, 335th Infantry. Died of pneumonia December 3, 1917, Camp
Taylor, Ky. Buried in Potato Run Burial Ground in Scott Township,
Harrison County, Ind.
PRELL, CLARENCE - - - Private
Son of Andrew A. and Selena Alice Prell; born May 17, 1897, Elizabeth,
Harrison County, Ind. Shooting-gallery proprietor. Entered service
September 6, 1918, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to
54th Company, 14th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade; later
assigned to 72nd Field Artillery, Camp Knox, Ky., but was taken ill and
died of meningitis November 9, 1918, before leaving Camp Taylor, Ky.
Buried near Elizabeth, Ind.
RICHARDSON, CLARENCE - - - Private
Son of William and Mary Richardson; born May 3, 1894, Louisville, Ky.
Moved to Harrison County, Ind. (Date not given). Farmer. Entered
service September 20, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.;
assigned to Company L, 335th Infantry; later to Company D, 163rd
Infantry. Embarked from ("amp Merritt, N. J. April 9, 1918; assigned to
Company F, 128th Infantry, 32nd Division. Died of wounds September 8,
1918, received at Soissons.

Middletown, Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 28, 1918,

August 6, 1918. Died of wounds October 20, 1918, received in the

Harrison County, Ind. Employee Western Union Telegraph Company. Entered
service October, 1917, Cleveland, Ohio. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio;
assigned to Company C, 319th Field Signal Battalion. Overseas in May,
1918. Serving with Company D, 41th Telegraph Battalion, Signal Corps,
when he was killed in action October 6, 1918, France. Buried near
Hospital No. 27, Romagne, France.

Farmer. Enlisted October 4, 1917, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor,

S. C.; assigned to Company K, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. Overseas
May 13, 1918. Died of wounds September 5, 1918, British Hospital No.

Company M, 125th Infantry, 32nd Division. Killed in action in
Meuse-Argonne Offensive October 11, 1918. Buried in Argonne-American
Cemetery, Grave No. 29, Section 34, Plot 1.
WOODWARD, DAVID C. - - - Private

Amsterdam, Harrison County, Ind. Plumber. Entered service June 25,
1918, Corydon, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; overseas September 25,
1918; assigned to Headquarters Company, 358th Infantry. Participated in
the Meuse- Argonne Offensive. Killed in action November 10, 1918,
Stenay, France. Buried between Blanc Fountain and Stenay, on the Meuse
River.
ZOLLMAN, ARTHUR - - - Private

Harrison County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 28, 1918. Sent to
Camp Taylor, Ky.: assigned to Company K, 154th Infantry. Overseas
