Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company A, 2nd Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 6, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried in the LO.O.F. Cemetery, Jamestown, Ind. Survived by widow, Mary E. Airhart, Danville, Ind.

BAKER, HORACE RUSSELL  - - - Private
Son of Arthur Melburn and Mary Elizabeth Baker; born January 6, 1896, Lizton, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 21, 1917, Danville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company C, 334th Infantry; transferred to Company C, 152nd Infantry. Sailed for France, June 12, 1918. Assigned to Company M, 165th Infantry, 38th Division. Killed in action November 7, 1918, Sedan Hill No. 252. Buried at Sedan, France.

BOOKER, CLAUDE SAMUEL - - - Private
Son of James H. and Catherine Booker; born May 18, 1895, Hillsdale, Vermillion County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 25, 1918, Danville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 1st Company, 1st Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Greenleaf, Ga.; assigned to Field Hospital No. 35, 7th Sanitary Train. Embarked from Camp Merritt, N. J. August 14, 1918. Died of pneumonia September 21, 1918, Yonne, (?) France. Buried in American Cemetery at Anysler, (?) France.

BROCK, HERBERT LEE - - - Private
Son of Stephen and Serilda Brock; born October 4, 1896, Belleville, Hendricks County, Ind. Student. Entered service September 4, 1918, Danville, Ind. Went into training at Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 13th Company, 4th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 8, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried at Clayton, Ind.

CAPLINGER, CHARLES W. - - - Private
Son of John H. and Beade Caplinger; born May 15, 1893, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 21, 1917, Danville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company C, 334th Infantry; then to Company C, 152ml Infantry. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Replacement Draft. Overseas June 12, 1918; assigned to Company F, 165th Infantry, 38th Division. Killed in action July 31, 1918, at Chateau-Thierry. Buried at Seringes-et- Nesles, France.

CRANE, CLAUDE MARSHALL - - - Landsman, Radio Reserve
Son of Thomas W. and Lenora Crane; born December 22, 1894, Indianapolis, Ind. Moved to Danville, Hendricks County, Ind. in 1900. Electrician. Entered U.S. Navy November 3, 1917, Indianapolis. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, 1ll. Died of spinal meningitis Great Lake* Naval Training Station, January 6, 1918. Buried at Danville, Ind. First Hendricks County boy to die in service.

DERR, LEE - - - Cook
Son of John W. and Margaret E. Derr; born February 12, 1897, Plainfield, Hendricks County, Ind. Express messenger. Entered service May 27, 1917, Canton, Ohio. Sent to Camp Gordon, Ga.; assigned to Company K, 5th Replacement Regiment. Embarked September 14, 1917. Died of pneumonia October 3, 1917, Paignton, England. Body returned to U.S., and buried at Clayton, Ind.

FOX, VANCE HOBART - - - Private
Son of Alva and Dolly Fox; born August 2, 1897, Danville, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 5, 1918. Toledo, Ohio. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 158th Depot Brigade. Died of influenza October 5, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried at Avon, Hendricks County, Ind.

GLOSSOP, GEORGE EVERARD - - - 2nd Lieutenant
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Glossop; born August 13, 1889, Ft. Dodge, Iowa. In U.S. Navy, 1907-1911. Graduate of Purdue University. Athletic Director, University of Washington. Entered service May 15, 1918, Walla Walla, Washington. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Instructor in Officers Training School, Field Artillery. Died of influenza October 16, 1918. Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried, Brownsburg, Ind. Survived by widow, Alfrieda B. Glossop, and two children, George Everard, and Sarah Ellene, Syracuse, Ind.

HALL, HENRY - - - Corporal
Son of John W. and Anna L. Hall; born October 9, 1893, Clayton, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army June 21, 1914, Indianapolis, Ind. Served three years in Philippine Islands, and Cuba. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; then to Camp Green, S. C. Assigned to Machine Gun Company, 30th Infantry. Overseas in April, 1918. Gassed in battle of Fismes, August 9, 1918, and died of pneumonia, and result of gas, August 17, 1918. Buried at Clayton, Ind.

HEAD, JOSEPH HOWARD - - - Private
Son of John W. and Nancy Ann Head; born January 6, 1893, near Plainfield, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 22, 1917, Danville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company C, 334th Infantry; Company C, 152nd Infantry. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss., assigned to Replacement Draft. Sailed overseas June 15, 1918. Assigned to Company D, 4th Infantry, 3rd Division. Killed in action July 23, 1918, Chateau-Thierry.

HELTON, DONALD RUSSELL - - - Private
Son of Henry J. and Cora Helton; born January 12, 1898, Danville, Ind. Mechanic. Enlisted in Students Army Training Corps at Butler College, Indianapolis, September 23, 1918. Transferred to the Students Army Training Corps at Central Normal College, Danville, Ind., where he died of influenza, October 26, 1918. Buried at Danville, Ind.

HENDRICKSON, JESSE ROY - - - Private
Son of John and Sarah Hendrickson (both deceased); born March 2, 1887, near Brownsburg, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted August 8, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Battery A, 325th Field Artillery, 84th Division. Died from abscess of liver May 19, 1918, Camp Shelby. Buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, near Brownsburg, Ind.

HICKS, LEORA FRANKLIN - - -  Surgeon
Son of William Morton and Bethena Dobbs Hicks; born September 8, 1874, Putnam County, Ind. Moved to Hendricks County in 1902. Physician. Entered service August 2, 1918, Nitro, W. Va. Serving as Assistant Surgeon, Public Health, at that place when he was taken ill and died of influenza-pneumonia, October 27, 1918. Buried at Stilesville, Hendricks County, Ind. Survived by widow, Floy West Hicks, and son, Leon Franklin, Danville, Ind.

HOLTSCLAW, OSCAR BARKER - - - Corporal
Son of Edward Grant and Eva Holtsclaw; born September 4, 1901, Pittsboro, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in July, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Embarked April 19, 1918; assigned to Company D, 151st Infantry. KiIled in action October 12, 1918. (Battle in which he was killed and burial place not known).

JENKINS, EVERETT LAWSON - - - Private
Son of David Wilton and Cora Alice Jenkins (deceased); born June 29, 1891, near Avon, Hendricks County, Ind. Reared by Mrs. Andrew Gibbs (Aunt). Laborer. Entered service December 14, 1917, San Francisco, Ca1. Sent to Presidio, Cal; assigned to Battery A, 62nd Coast Artillery Corps. Embarked July 14, 1918. Returned as casualty to Camp Sherman, Ohio. Transferred to Camp Wadsworth, S. C., where he died of tuberculosis April 14, 1919. Buried at Plainfield, Ind.

JOHNSTON, ORA FRANKLIN - - -  Corporal
Son of Delania M. and Minnie A. Johnston; born August 9, 1894, Jackson Township, Putnam County, Ind. Moved to Hendricks County in 1899. Farmer. Entered service September 22, 1917, Danville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Logan, Tex. Overseas in May, 1918: assigned to Company D, 131st Infantry, 33rd Division. Died of wounds October 13, 1918, received in action at Consenvoye Woods. Buried in French Cemetery, Glorieux, Verdun Meuse, France.

KURTZ, HENRY HOBART - - - Private, U.S.M.C.
Son of Charles E. and Alice C. Kurtz; born March 9, 1898, North Salem, Hendricks County, Ind. College student; farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps, June 18, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Parris Island, S. C.; assigned to Company B, 13th Regiment, U.S. Marines. Transferred to Quantico, Va. Embarked September 13, 1918. Became ill on board ship; taken to Base Hospital No. 2, Brest, France, where he died of spinal meningitis, September 30, 1918. Buried in Kerfautras Cemetery, Brest, France.

KURTZ, HERSCHELL HALL - -  - Private, S.A.T.C.
Son of Edwin Morton and Mary Florence Kurtz; born April 25, 1897, North Salem, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Student Army Training Corps September 16, 1918, Colorado Springs, Colo. He was immediately taken to the hospital with a severe cold, which developed into influenza, and died October 2, 1918, at that place. Buried in Fairview Cemetery, North Salem, Hendricks County, Ind.

LESLIE, RAYMOND - - - Private
Son of O.M. and Emma Jane Harris Leslie; born September 26, 1896, Danville, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army October 2, 1916, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Llano Grand, Tex.; transferred to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; assigned to Company A, 1st Infantry. Died from accident August 6, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Buried in New Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.

McCLAIN, BURCHARD LANSLOT - - - Corporal
Son of Fielding R. and Anna McClain; born November 6, 1892, Lebanon, Boone County, Ind. Moved to Hendricks County, September, 1907. Employee of Pennsylvania Railroad. Enlisted May 12, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; assigned to 16th Infantry, 1st Division. Embarked June 14, 1917. Fought in the battle of Cantigny, and was killed in action July 22, 1918, Soissons, France. Buried near where he fell. (Paris and Soissons Road).

ODELL, WALTER WILLIAM - - - Private
Son of Abraham and Mary Odell; born April 29, 1884, near Linton, Greene County, Ind. Moved to Hendricks County in 1900. Working in furniture store, Martinsville, Ind., when he enlisted March 7, 1917, Terre Haute, Ind. Went into training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Died of pneumonia April 3, 1917, Jefferson Barracks, Mo. (Place of burial not given).

O'DONNELL, NEIL - - - Private
Son of Terry and Carrie E. O'Donnell; born March 18, 1891, Pittsboro, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 30, 1918, Danville, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 30th Company, 8th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade; transferred to the Medical Department, Base Hospital, where he died of pneumonia, October 11, 1918. Buried in South Cemetery, Danville, Ind. Survived by widow, Virginia O'Donnell, North Salem, Ind.

O'DONNELL, ROGER M. - - - Private, R.C.
Son of Terry and Carrie O'Donnell; born May 7, 1896, Danville, Ind. Employee Central Union Telephone Company. Enlisted in Reserve Corps July 14, 1917, Ft. Benjamin Harrison. Sent to Camp Gordon, Ga.; assigned to Company B, 307th Field Signal Battalion. Embarked May 19, 1918. Fought at St. Mihiel, and in the Meuse-Argonnc Offensive. Died of disease October 26, 1918, near Bazoilles, France. Buried in American Cemetery, No. 6, Bazoilles, Vosges, France.

PARSONS, FRANK HARRISON - - - Private, U.S.M.C.
Son of Adrian and Mary M. Parsons; born February 11, 1889, near Plainfield, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered U.S. Marine Corps March 28, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Parris Island, S. C.; assigned to 19th Company. Transferred to Washington, D. C. for special duty. Won honors as marksman. Transferred to Ordnance Plant, Charleston, W. Va., where he died of pneumonia October 22, 1918. (Place of burial not given).

PIERSON, OTIS EVERETT - - - Private
Son of Ellis and Ida Pierson; born November 1, 1894, Pittsboro, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Indiana National Guard (Battery B, 139th Field Artillery) August 2. 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Battery F, 146th Field Artillery. Embarked June 12, 1918. Accidentally killed August 27, 1918, in trying to save some French children from being run over by a heavy gun, while passing through Nassy, France. Buried at St. Dizier, France.

RICHARDSON, PAUL DONALD- - - Seaman, 2nd Class
Son of Frank E. and Nora E. Richardson; born February 8, 1900, Center Valley, Hendricks County, Ind. Moving picture machine operator. Enlisted in U.S. Navy, July 25, 1918, Muncie, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station. Ill., where he died of spinal meningitis, October 5, 1918. Buried at Plainfield, Ind.

SUTHERLY, RUSSELL LEE - - - Private
Son of Charles and India Sutherly; born January 27, 1897. Whitley County, Ind. Moved to Hendricks County in January, 1918. Farmer. Entered service June 26, 1918. Sent to Camp Jackson, S. C.; assigned to Battery F, 317th Field Artillery, 81st Division. Embarked from Camp Mills, N. Y. August 8, 1918. Died of bronchial pneumonia October 4, 1918, Valdahun, France. Survived by widow, Elsie Sutherly, and son, Joseph Russell Sutherly.

THOMPSON, PAUL - - - Private
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Thompson; born May 24, 1894, Danville, Ind. Entered service September 3, 1918, Danville, Ind. Went into training at Camp Grant, Ill.: assigned to Company C, Limited Service Regiment. Died of pneumonia at Camp Grant, October 5, 1918. Place of burial Plainfield, Ind.

TROTTER, JOHN A. - - -  Private, U.S.M.C.
Son of Frank and Laura Trotter; born April 8, 1900, Jamestown, Boone County, Ind. Moved to Hendricks County in 1918. Garage employee. Entered U.S. Marines June 25, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Went into training at Parris Island, S. C.; transferred to New York; later to Quantico, Va. Assigned to 215th Company Marines. Died of pneumonia October 7, 1918, Ouantico, Va. Buried at Scottsburg, Ind.
