April 23, 1885, Sabina, Ohio. Moved to Huntington County, Ind. in 1914.
Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army in March, 1916, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Sent to Ft. Harrison, Ind.; assigned to Battery A, 52nd Artillery.
Transferred to Liana Grande, Mex. Overseas in August, 1918. Fought in
battles of St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne. Died of pneumonia November
24, 1918, Base Hospital No. 13, Mailly, France. Buried, Mailly le Camp,
France.
FISHER, HOMER GLENN - - - Private
Son of Nathan and Josephine O.
Fisher; born February 4, 1888, Wayne Township, Huntington County, Ind.
Graduated from Indiana University in 1914. Enrolled in Medical
Department Johns Hopkins University, Md., when he enlisted October 6,
1917, in U.S. Medical Reserve Corps, Baltimore, Md. Stationed at Ft.
Howard, Md., and White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. Died of pneumonia
October 7, 1918, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Buried at Mt.
Etna, Huntington County, Ind.
FYSON, ELMER LEROY - - - Private,
S.A.T.C.
Son of Thomas and Ellen Clymer Fyson; born November 27, 1890, Wells
County, Ind. Moved to Huntington County in 1895. Chauffeur. Enrolled in
Student Army Training Corps, October 15, 1918, Huntington, Ind. Sent to
Rolling Prairie, Ind. for special training. Contracted influenza, and
died November 3, 1918. Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Ind.
Survived by widow, Iva Rose Fyson, and one daughter, Jeanette Rose
Fyson, Huntington, Ind.
GROSSMAN, CARL WILLIAM - - -
Corporal
Son of John and Emma Wiedenhoeft Grossman; born May 29, 1891,
Huntington, Ind. Graduated from Green School of Pharmacy, Indianapolis,
Ind. Druggist. Entered service October 5, 1917, Huntington, Ind. Sent
to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to
Headquarters Company, 139th Field Artillery. While enroute for France
he contracted pneumonia, and died October 15, 1918. Body returned to
U.S., and buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington,
HALLER, LEWIS ALDEN - - - Private
Son of William L. (deceased) and
Addie Pettingill Haller (Hart); born May 25, 1892, Andrews, Huntington
County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May, 1918, San Francisco, Ca1.
Sent to Presidio, Ca1.; assigned to 63rd Infantry. Crossed country with
his Company, and while waiting at Camp Mead, Md. was struck by passing
train and instantly killed, September 1, 1918. Buried in Andrews, Ind.
Survived by widow, Josephine Miller Haller, Bridgeport, Ore. The
American Legion Post, Andrews, Ind. named in his honor.
HASTY, EDWARD EMERSON - - - Private
Son of John M. (deceased) and
Theressa Hasty (Schermerhorn); born April 14, 1897, Union Township,
Huntington County, Ind. Laborer. Entered service September 3, 1918,
Huntington. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 14th Company, 4th
Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to school for
Bakers and Cooks. Died of pneumonia October 11, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky.
Buried at Barnes Chapel, Rockcreek Township, Huntington County, Ind.
HOOVER, EDWARD D. - - - Private
Son of George and Martha Hoover; born
August 14, 1890, Huntington, Ind. Mechanic. Entered service October 4,
1917, Huntington, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 63rd
Company, 16th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade; then to Company
B, 309th Engineers. Transferred to Camp Forrest, Ga.; assigned to
Company I, 6th Infantry. Overseas in April, 1918. Took part in battles
of St. Mihiel and died from wounds, September 16, 1918. Buried in St.
Mihiel American Cemetery, Sec. 17, Plot 4, France.
MAYNE, ROBERT McNEIL - - - Private
Son of Arthur M. and Laura Purviance
Mayne; born September 20, 1897, Ft. Wayne, Ind. Moved to Huntington
County in December, 1897. Farmer. Entered service February 18, 1918,
Ft. Wayne, Ind. Sent to Ft. Meyer, Va.; assigned to Company E, 30th
Engineers. Embarked for overseas June 28, 1918. Participated in battles
of St. Mihiel, and Argonne Forest. Killed in action November 1, 1918,
Argonne Forest. Buried where he fell. First boy from Huntington County
to die on firing line.
ROBBINS, GARLAND - - - Private,

on of James L. and Sarah Hull Robbins (deceased); born August 13, 1891,
Huntington, Ind. Cook, Big Four Railroad. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps
February 16, 1918. Sent to Parris Island, S. C.; assigned to Company F,
13th Regiment. Transferred to Quantico, Va. Went overseas in September
1918. Died of pneumonia October 12, 1918, Brest, France. Body returned
to U.S., and buried at Monument City, Huntington, Ind.
SATTERTHWAITE, HARRY GLEN - - - Corporal
Son of William and Jennie Satterthwaite; born September 17, 1887, Polk
Township, Huntington County, Ind. Barber. Entered service August 6,
1918, Huntington, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to Company A,
Machine Gun Battalion. Died of pneumonia February 10, 1919, Ft. Thomas,
Ky. Buried in Huntington, Ind. Survived by widow, Mabel Satterthwaite,
and four children, John Wonderly, Katherine Louise, Paul Richard, and
Georgia Marie, Huntington, Ind.
SCOTT, GRAHAM ELWIN - - - Private
Son of Court E. and Mamie Mader Scott
(deceased); born December 27, 1900, Huntington, Ind. High school
student. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army January 3, 1917, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; transferred to San Antonio, then to
Eagle Pass, Tex. Assigned to Company H, 26th Infantry; overseas in
June, 1917. Cited for gallantry in action and especially meritorious
service. Killed in action July 19, 1918, in Battle of Soissons. (Burial
place unknown.)
SHELLER, JAMES HARVEY - - - Private
Son of John and Mary E. Waltermade
Sheller; born August 19, 1896, North Manchester, Ind. Moved to
Huntington County in 1903. Traveling salesman, Entered service July 23,
1918, Huntington, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 8th
Company, 2nd Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to
Headquarters Company, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia, February
15, 1919, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington,
Ind.
SMITH, CHARLES AMBROSE - - - Corporal
Son of Jefferson W. and Lodena A. Smith; born September 21, 1899, Gas
City, Grant County, Ind. Living in Huntington, Ind. and employed as
brakeman on Erie Railroad, when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April
28, 1917, Dayton, Ohio. Transferred to Ft. Ringgold, Tex.; assigned to
Company G, 28th Infantry, 1st Division. Promoted to Corpora1. Went
overseas in June, 1917. Died May 3, 1918, from wounds received at
Chateau-Thierry. (Burial place unknown).
STEWART, FLOYD STANLEY .... Private
Son of James M. and Mary Harvey
Stewart; born July 20, 1896, Union Township, Huntington County, Ind.
Farmer. While visiting his brother in Craig, Colo., he enlisted in
Troop G, 1st Colorado Cavalry. Sent to Camp Baldwin, Colo. Transferred
to Camp Kearney, Cal. Sent to Camp Merritt, N. J. Went overseas in
June, 1918. Killed in action September 7, 1918, Fismes, France. Buried
in American Cemetery No. 617, Grave No. 133, Sec. B, Plot 3, Fisines,
France.
SURRAN, HARRY H. - - - Private

Irwin Surran; born June 17, 1888, Warren, Huntington County, Ind.
Farmer. Entered service May 28, 1918, Edwardsburg, Mich. Sent to Camp
Custer, Mich.; assigned to Company A, 339th Infantry. Went overseas;
and sent to Russia. Contracted pneumonia, and died October 14, 1918,
Brenika, Russia. Body returned to U.S., and buried in Woodlawn
Cemetery, Warren, Huntington County, Ind.
TAYLOR, VICTOR HUGO - - - Private
Son of John W. and Charlotte Minnick
Taylor; born April 13, 1895, Union Township, Huntington County, Ind.
Carpenter. Entered service September 30, 1917, Huntington, Ind. Sent to
Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company C, 139th Field Artillery.
Overseas in October, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 17, 1918, on board
the boat after its arrival at Liverpool, England. Buried in LO.O.F.
Cemetery, Brown's Corner, Huntington County, Ind. The American Legion
Post, Markle, Ind., named in his honor.
WHITELOCK, CHARLES NOTTINGHAM - -
- Private Son of Orlando W. and Jennie Nottingham Whitelock; born
June 10, 1896, Huntington, Ind. Attending Elon College, N. C., when he
enlisted in Ambulance Corps, Red Cross Company 18, August 4, 1917,
Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Camp Grant, Ill.; assigned to 3rd Ambulance
Company, 31th Sanitary Train. Died October 4, 1917, Base Hospital, Camp
Grant, Ill., following operation for appendicitis. Buried in Mount Hope
Cemetery, Huntington, Ind.

April 23, 1894, Baker, Neb. Moved to Huntington County, Ind. in early
life (exact date not given.) Laborer. Enlisted in Company C, 4th
Infantry, Indiana National Guard, Huntington, Ind., August 5, 1917.
Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Battery E, 139th Field
