Jackson County, Indiana

Jackson County was named for Andrew Jackson,
who defeated the British in 1815 at the
Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812,
and later became President.

Formed / Established - 1816

County Seat - Brownstown, Indiana

Jackson County is at the crossroads of Interstate 65 and US 50,
The East Fork of the White River bisects it northeast to southwest.

Settlements spread in the early 1800's

Vallonia, just south of the county seat of Brownstown,
is believed to have been an early location for French traders

Seymour in the northeast corner became the largest incorporated area
shortly after north-south and east-west railroads intersected there about 1852.
