AKERS, STANLEY GARLAND - - - Private
Son of George and Pearl Akers; born September 17, 1897, Freetown, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 6, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor. Ky.; assigned to Battery C, 70th Field Artillery. While home on furlough, he died from gun shot wounds, received from his own gun while hunting, October 17, 1918. Buried in Wegan Cemetery, near Brownstown, Ind.

ALLMAN, FRED - - - Private
Son of Phillip and Sarah Allman; born May 16, 1891, Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 26, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 17th Company, 5th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Company E, 334th Infantry. Overseas in August, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 16, 1918, "in France." Survived by widow, Flossie Allman, and one son, Clarence Allman, Surprise, Jackson County, Ind.

ARBUCKLE, WALTER - - -  Private
Son of Joseph E. and Carrie E. Arbuckle; born September 22, 1898, Scott County, Ind. Moved to Jackson County in 1901. Contractor. Enlisted in Company K, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, (152nd Infantry) July 20, 1917, Seymour, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June, 1918; assigned to Company K, 4th Infantry, 3rd Division. Killed in action July 25, 1918, battle of Chateau-Thierry. Buried in American Cemetery No. 608, Seringes-et-Nesles, France.

BREWER, FRANCIS MARVIN - - - Private
Son of C. W. (deceased) and Martha Brewer (Johnson); born February 28, 1897, Vallonia, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service January 30, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Ft. Harrison, Ind.; then to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; and later to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Assigned to the 20th Company Engineers. Died in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C., July 17, 1918, following an operation for tumor. Buried in Vallonia Cemetery, Jackson County, Ind.

BURBRINK, FRANK W. - - - Private
Son of Henry and Elizabeth Burbrink; born January 23, 1893, Seymour, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 26, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich.; assigned to 3rd Company, 1st Training Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Company G, 14th Ammunition Train. Died of pneumonia October 5, 1918, Camp Custer, Mich. Buried at Jonesville, Jackson County, Ind. Survived by widow, Alvina Burbrink, Seymour, Ind.

CASEBOLDT, ROBERT SANFORD - - - Private
Son of Sanford (deceased) and Mary Caseboldt (Hankins); born June 3, 1892, Medora, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Company K, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard (152nd Infantry), July 12, 1917, Seymour, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company M, 168th Infantry. Overseas in June, 1918. Killed in action September 12, 1918, St. Mihiel, France. Buried in St. Mihiel-American Cemetery, No. 1233, France.

COBB, HENRY ELKANAH - - - Cadet Aviator
Son of John J. and Ella O. Cobb; born June 29, 1889, Seymour, Ind. Educated in Purdue University, and at the time of his enlistment, he was supervisor of Manual Training in the Public Schools of Elgin, Ill. Entered Military School for Aeronautics, Cornell University, November 8, 1917. Graduated February 16, 1918. Sent to Ellington Field, Tex., where he died of pneumonia, April 23, 1918. Buried in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, Ind.

FOUNTAIN, VIRGIL - - - Private
Son of William and Mary Fountain; born June 28, 1889, Jackson County, Ind. Mail carrier. Entered service May 26, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 28th Company, 7th . raining Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Forrest, Ga.; assigned to Headquarters Detachment, 605th Engineers. Died of pneumonia October 10, 1918, on board the George Washington. Buried in Commune of Finistere, France.

GOSSMAN, VANCE HAROLD - - - Private
Son of Charles W. and Carrie N. Gossman; born December 2, 1892, Vallonia, Jackson County, Ind. Insurance agent. Entered service Jun 23, 1918, Indianapolis. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 5th company, 2nd Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Embarked for overseas September 29, 1918; assigned to Company A, 309th Supply Train. Returned to U.S. in June, 1919; assigned to Base Base Hospital No. 25, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind., where he died August 28, 1919. Buried at Vallonia, Ind.

GRAVES, MICHAEL CHARLES - - - Fireman, U.S.N.
Son of Orlando C. and Elizabeth Farrell Graves (deceased) ; born January 19, 1898, Seymour, Ind. Employee of Public Service Company, Seymour, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Navy, Louisville, Ky. in June, 1917; assigned to fireman on the Battleship Iowa. Died of pneumonia on board hospital ship Solace, October 10, 1918. Buried in Catholic Cemetery, Seymour, Ind.

HACKMAN, HUBERT - - - Private
Son of William J. F. and Emma Hackman; born February 23, 1895, near Tampico, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 8, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Sheridan, Ala. for training; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 26th Infantry. Died of pneumonia October 28, 1918, Camp Sheridan. Buried in Sauers Cemetery, Jackson County, Ind.

HAGAN, MARTIN A. - - - Private
Son of Charles and Minnie Otte Hagan; born October 18, 1891, Grassy Fork Township, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 22, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 26th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 35th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia October 25, 1918, Camp McClellan. Buried in Wegan Lutheran Cemetery, near Brownstown, Ind.

HARTWELL, CHESTER A. - - - Private
Son of James A. and Sarah E. Hartwell; born June 27, 1893, Seymour, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 13, 1917, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Funston, Kans.; then to Ft. Sill, Okla.; assigned to Company L, 138th Infantry, 35th Division. Embarked for overseas June 19, 1918, from Camp Mills, L. L Killed in action July 11, 1918. (Battle not known).

HUCKLEBERRY, LEBERT - - -  Private
Son of Anderson and Martha Huckleberry; born March 2, 1893, Washington County, Ind. Moved to Jackson County in March, 1903. Farmer. Entered service July 22, 1918, Browns- town, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 2nd Company, 1st Development Battalion. Died of pneumonia October 9, 1918, Base Hospital, Camp Taylor. Buried in Monteden, Grave No. 8, Post Cemetery, Camp Taylor, Ky.

LESLIE, HARRY ALEXANDER - - -  Private
Son of W. L (deceased) and Katherine Leslie; horn August 23, 1886, Seymour, Ind. Employed as a painter in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he entered service in September, 1917. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; then to Camp Sevier, S. C. Assigned to Company B, 115th Machine Gun Battalion. Overseas in May, 1918. Died from wounds August 27, 1918, received from bursting bomb, while fighting on "Flanders Front", Belgium.

LEWIS, ALBERT MAY - - - Private, L.S.M.C
Son of James W. and Melinda Catherine Lewis; born October 18, 1899, Crothersville, Jackson County, Ind. High school student. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps in April, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Parris Island, S. C.; then to Quantico, Va.; assigned to 51st Company, 5th Regiment, 2nd Training Battalion. Went overseas in August, 1918. Killed in action October 4, 1918, Mont Blanc Ridge, France. (Burial place unknown).

LOCKHART, CLARENCE - - -  Private
Son of Andrew J. and Anna Lockhart (Sharr); born February 24, 1894, Vallonia, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 4, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to Company G, 52nd Infantry. Transferred to Camp Taylor, Ky.; then overseas in July, 1918. Died of pneumonia December 5, 1918, Base Hospital No. 19, France. (Burial place unknown).

LUCAS, JAMES - - - Sergeant
Son of Ezekiel and Flora Lucas; born April 13, 1887, Reddington, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 17, 1915, Laredo, Tex. Served on the Mexican Border; assigned to Company H, 9th Infantry. Went overseas in September, 1917, and was killed in action June 6, 1918, Vaux, France. Buried at Vaux sur Somme, Somme, France. Reported as the first man in Company H, 9th Infantry, to be killed in action.

MOUNT, LESLIE LEWIS - - - Private, U.S.M.C.
Son of George M. and Rose E. Mount; born August 26, 1898, Scott County, Ind. Moved to Jackson County, June 20, 1904. High school student. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps December 14, 1917, Louisville, Ky. Sent to Parris Island, S. C.; assigned to 74th Company. Died February 14, 1918, following an operation for appendicitis, Parris Island, S. C. Buried at Crothersville, Jackson County, Ind.

MYERS, WILLIAM JOSEPH - - -  Private
Son of John E. and Katherine M. Myers; born June 1, 1897, Seymour, Jackson County, Ind. Employed in Baltimore and Ohio Railway Office, Seymour. Entered service September 5, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Arsenal Technical School. Indianapolis; assigned to Signal Corps. Died of pneumonia October 12, 1918, Indianapolis. Buried in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, Jackson County, Ind.

PRUDEN, JAMES HAROLD - - -  Private
Son of George and Minnie Broadaker Pruden; born November 5, 1890, Cortland, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 8, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 28th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to 2nd Company, 1st Development Battalion. Died from heart failure August 30, 1918, Camp Taylor. Buried in Cortland, Jackson County, Ind.

SCHILL, JOSEPH E. --- Private
Son of John and Lenora D. Schill; born August 16, 1887, Crothersville, Jackson County, Ind. Laborer. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; then to Camp Logan, Tex.; assigned to Company C, 33rd Infantry. Transferred to Camp Upton, N. Y.; assigned to Company D, 131st Infantry, 33rd Division. Overseas in May, 1918. Killed in action August 9, 1918, Chipilly Ridge, France. (Burial place unknown).

STEWART, JAMES B. --- Private
Son of James and Anna Stewart; born March 19, 1895, Jackson County, Ind. Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army February 14, 1917, and sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; then to Ft. Sam Houston, Tex.; assigned to Company H, 3rd Infantry. Overseas in June, 1917; attached to Machine Gun Company, 26th Infantry. Died of pneumonia March 16, 1918, (place unknown). Buried, Menilla Tour; Meurthe et Moselle, Grave No. 812.

THOMPSON, CHARLES W. --- Corporal
Son of John F. and Rose Thompson (Wolfe); born May 29, 1887, Sparksville, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army March 9, 1915, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to El Paso, Tex.; assigned to Company H, 16th Infantry. Overseas in June, 1917, with Company B, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion. Took part in battles of Lorraine Sector, Toul Sector, Picardy, Cantigny. Killed in action July 19, 1918, battle of Soissons.

WILSON, ARVIE R. --- Private
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Wilson (mother deceased); born September 27, 1894, Brownstown, Ind. Farmer. Entered service March 29, 1918, Brownstown. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Gordon, Ga. Overseas in July, 1918; assigned to Company L, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action October 6, 1918 in battle of Argonne Forest. Cited by Division Commander for bravery in action and meritorious services.

ZIMMERMAN, EDWARD PETER --- Private
Son of Peter and Emma Amelia Zimmerman; born February 18, 1892, Seymour, Ind. Machinist. Entered service May 27, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 28th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Beauregard, La.; assigned to Company H, 153rd Infantry. Overseas in August, 1918 with Company H, 127th Infantry. Killed in action October 26, 1918, in Argonne Forest. Buried in Argonne American Cemetery No. 1232. Romagne, France.
