Mrs. Matt Greiner, one of the eldest and most highly respected residents of Madison, died Sunday night. She was the mother of Albert C Greiner, of the Madison Brewing Company.

Charles L. Law; an old and prominent citizen of Jefferson County, died at his home in that county on Sunday evening last.

Madison, Ind., Jan, 20.- Mrs. Hannah C Scovel died at Wooster, O. Sunday morning aged ninety. She was the widow of Rev. Sylvester Scovel, who was president of Hanover College from August 1846. until July 4, 1849 when he died of cholera. She remained at Hanover for some years to educate her children, and then moved back to New Albany. In later years she had lived in Springfield,  Franklin and Wooster, O, Her son, S. T. Scovel, is president of Wooster University. She died at the home of her  daughter, Mrs. Kitty S. Bunnvey. Other children yet living are Hon. James Matlack Scovel, Camden N. J. Robert A, Scovel, Chicago; Mrs. Mary Senor, New Alexandria, Pa.; Mrs. Belle Barnett, Centerville, La.; Mrs. Hannah Muzzy. Springfield, O. The remains will arrive on the noon train tomorrow and be taken direct to the Hanover Presbyterian Church, where the services will be conducted by  Prof. J. B. Garritt her lifelong friend.

Judge John Robert Cravens, one of this city's most distinguished citizens died this afternoon at his suburban residence, Fairmount on a hill top north of the city.

NALS 23 May 1876 p4 c3: Couldn't Stand the Pressure. A man named Glasscock, a resident of Madison, Ind., on board the steamer Belle, bound for Louisville, committed suicide when opposite Utica, Ind., last evening. .

Obit: Mrs. Lillian Sheldon 87, 2028 Lanier Drive, died Saturday afternoon at home. She was a lifelong resident  of Madison and a member of North United Methodist Church
She and her husband, the Rev. Loren J. Sheldon, who died in 1954, spent 42 years in the ministry. She was very active in directing choirs at the churches they served.
Several grandchildren survive
Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at North United Methodist Church, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in New Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William
