Name of Deceased: Nathaniel McGuire
Newspaper: Peru Republican Obit: June 13, 1873  p. 3, c.7  Peru Republican obituary:
Our old friend NATHANIEL McGUIRE, whose death was noticed very briefly last week, died at the house of his Son-in-law, S.S. Steele, corner of Sixth and Huntington streets, after a painful illness of four weeks' duration.  He had resided in the county nearly forty years, was well known and his death sincerely mourned.  He was upright, well informed and liberal, the friend of all valued public enterprises and full of benevolence.
The deceased was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, October 7, 1797, and hence lived to be nearly 76 years old.  In early manhood he left Kentucky and settled in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, where he entered a tract of land.  In 1829, he engaged in business in Lafayette, which was continued until 1834, when he removed to this county in which he resided until death, part of the time in Jefferson township, where he filled the office of Justice of the Peace for several years, and part of the time in this city.  He was married in Delaware couny, in 1831, to Miss Nancy Sanders, with whom he lieved in perfect accord until his death, and with whom he reared a family of four children, two of whom, a son and a daughter survive.  In youth he became connected with the M.E. church, but for reasons not necessary to mention subsequently withdrew from the organizaton.  He was the friend of educational and bonevolent (sic) enterprises.  The bereaved family, besides receving the sympathy of a large circle of friends, are comforted by that assurance that "blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."
