Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; transferred to Camp Beauregard, La.; assigned to Company M, 153rd Infantry. Sailed for France August 6, 1918. Died of pneumonia September 4, 1918, in hospital No. 14. Buried in Cemetery No. 32, 3rd Aviation Instruction Center, Issoudun, France. Survived by widow, Leah Barnes, Ladoga, Ind.

Son of Irwin L. and Hattie King Bible; born February 28, 1899, Crawfordsville, Ind. Carpenter. Enlisted in Company C, Indiana National Guard, Crawfordsville, Ind. Transferred to Troop H, 17th Cavalry, Columbus, Ohio. Died of pneumonia November 19, 1919 at Douglas, Ariz. Place of burial Cincinnati, Ohio. Survived by widow, Gladys Bible, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Son of Oliver W. and Mary A. Bowman; born March 22, 1898, New Ross, Montgomery County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 15, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Winona Lake Training School; assigned to Motor Corps, Company B, Student Army Training Corps. Transferred to Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce; sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind., where he died of pneumonia February 13, 1919 Buried in Pisgah Cemetery, Walnut Township, Montgomery County, Ind.

BROWN, VESSE G. ---Private
Son of D. L. and Alice Brown; born September 25, 1888, Mt. Vernon, Ky. Working in Montgomery County, Ind. at time of World War. Farmer. Entered service (date not known) Mt. Vernon, Ky. Received training at Camp Taylor, Ky., Camp Shelby, Miss., and Camp Sherman, Ohio. Overseas (date not known); assigned to Company I, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action July 1, 1918. (Place of death and burial not known.) Survived by son, Roscoe Brown.

CEDARS, ERNEST IRVING ---Private
Son of William F. and Edna Cedars; born September22, 1889, Veedersburg, Ind. Removed to Waynetown, Montgomery County, at an early age. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 29, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Camp Mills, N.Y. Assigned to Medical Department Camp Infirmary. Contracted pneumonia and died, October 26, 1918, Camp Mills. Buried in Masonic Cemetery, at Waynetown, Montgomery County, Ind.

COLMAN, ALEX R. ---Corporal
Son of Robert and Annie Colman (Grimes); born April 15, 1897, Tranmere Cheshire, England. Came to Montgomery County, Ind., in 1912. Student. Enlisted in Canadian Army September 13, 1915, Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada. Received training at Gresley Park and Port Arthur, Canada. Assigned to Company C, 52nd Battalion, 3rd Canadian Division. Overseas November 23, 1915. Killed in the battle of Lens, June 30, 1917. Buried in Barlin Military Extension Cemetery, near Bethune.

COOK, C. MELVIN ---Private
Son of Lincoln and Alice Cook; born January 20, 1896, Darlington, Montgomery County, Ind. Blacksmith. Enlisted June 17, 1917, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 150th Field Artillery. Transferred to Camp Mills, N.Y.; thence to Newport News, Va. While recovering from measles, tuberculosis developed. Discharged January 29, 1918. Died September 14, 1919, Crawfordsville, Ind., from tuberculosis contracted while in service. Buried in Rice Cemetery, Montgomery County, Ind.

COOK, GEORGE WALLACE ---Wagoner
Son of Lincoln and Alice Cook; born June 12, 1893, Darlington, Montgomery' County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Company C, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, June 17, 1917, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison; transferred to Camp Mills, N.Y.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 109th Engineers. Embarked September 17, 1918. Gassed; ordered to U.S. as casualty. Died of pneumonia September 28, 1918. Buried at sea.

COX, BYRON CLARK ---Corporal
Son of Denton and Berthz E. Cox; born December 5, 1899, Rossville, Clinton County, Ind. Moved to Montgomery County in 1908. Graduate of State Normal. Teacher. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 17, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks; transferred to Ft. Douglas, Ariz.; assigned to Company G, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Went overseas July 14, 1917. Killed in action, battle of Soissons, July 21, 1918, near Buzancy. Buried near Soissons, France. American Legion Post, Crawfordsville, Ind., named in his honor.

DAVIS, ROSCOE NYE ---Private
Son of James K. and Lue Vica Davis; born November 5, 1895, Ladoga, Montgomery County, Ind. Factory employee. Enlisted in Company C, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard April 2, 1917, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Automatic Replacement Draft, and was with Company D, 4th Infantry, at time of death. Went overseas June 12, 1918. Killed in action in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, October 4, 1918 (Burial place not known.)

DWIGGINS, RUSSELL HARRISON  ---1st Lieutenant
Son of Charles and Susannah Dwiggins; born June 27, 1896, Rossville, 1ll. Moved to Montgomery County, Ind., 1906. Graduate of Purdue University. Chautauqua entertainer. Entered Officers' Training School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind., May 1917. Transferred to Aviation Section. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; then to Ellington Field, Tex., where he was killed in aeroplane accident, April 4, 1918. Buried at Waynetown, Ind. Survived by widow, Mabel E. Dwiggins, and one son, Gerald Russell Dwiggins, Wallace, Ind.

ELMORE, AETNA GAIL ---Private
Son of Jasper and Catherine Elmore; born January 19,1899i New Richmond, Montgomery County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Aviation Section of Regular Army December 5, 1917, Lafayette, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; transferred to Kelly Field, Tex.; where he contracted pneumonia and died January 20, 1918. Buried in New Richmond Cemetery, New Richmond, Ind.

ENGLAND, JOHN (Colored) ---Private
Son of Roger and Morea Melvina England; born March 24, 1892, Barren County, Glasgow, Ky. Laborer. Entered service August 29th, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa; assigned to Company K, 809th Pioneer Infantry. Embarked from New York September 23, 1918. Contracted influenza while on board transport and died October 18, 1918. Survived by widow, Eva Cook England, Louisville, Ky.

EVERSON, HAROLD K. ---Private
Son of Newton and Minnie Gray Everson; born August 27, 1894, Ladoga, Montgomery County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 30, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 30th Company, 8th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Contracted pneumonia and died October 5, 1918, Camp Sherman. Buried in K. of P. Cemetery, Mace, Ind. Survived by widow, Vena McBee Everson, Linden, Ind.

FAUST, CLARENCE MILTON ---Seaman Son of Milton Voorhees and Violatta Leona Faust; born May 27, 1898, Darlington, Ind. Office employee. Entered service March 25, 1918, Chicago, Ill. Assigned to Coast Guards. Trained at New York, and Philadelphia. Did convoy duty during the war, and was on the ill-fated Tampa, when it was destroyed in Bristol Channel, September 26, 1918. Body was never recovered.


HARSHBARGER, EVERETT LEONARD ---Apprentice Seaman
Son of George W. and Eva Jane Harshbarger; born August 25, 1895, Ladoga, Montgomery County, Ind. Educated in Purdue University. Farmer. Entered U.S. Navy June 6, 1918, Chicago, Ill. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Ill., where he contracted pneumonia and died, January 1, 1919. Buried in Cemetery at Ladoga, Montgonery County, Ind.

HICKS, FOREST L. ---Wagoner
Son of Martin and Nettie Hicks; born May 20, 1894, North Salem, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 25, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Battery B, 36th Regiment Field Artillery. Contracted pneumonia, and died November 3, 1918, Camp McClellan. Buried in Cemetery at Ladoga, Ind. Survived by widow, Let ha U. Hicks, and son Forest Hicks.

JONES, HARLEY EDGAR ---Private
Son of William D. Jones and Elizabeth Francis Jones; born March 6, 1889, New Ross, Montgomery County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 20, 1917, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 31st Company, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company C, 151st Infantry. Contracted pneumonia, and died February 4, 1918, in a Base Hospital at Camp Shelby. Buried in L O. O. F. Cemetery, New Ross, Ind.

JONES, JAMES NATHAN ---Private
Son of James S. and Eva Jones; born August 6, 1899, near New Maysville, Ind. Delivery boy. Enlisted in Company C, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, June 16, 1917, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Gary, Ind.; then to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June 1918. Assigned to Company F, 4th Infantry, 3rd Division. Fought at Chateau-Thierry. Killed July 25, 1918, while acting as a scout messenger. Buried in National Cemetery, Aisne, France.

JONES, WILLIAM FIFE ---Captain
Son of William T. and Mary J. Smith Jones; born April 20, 1892, Mocksville, N. C. Moved to Montgomery County, Ind., 1894. Machinist. Enlisted in Aviation Service August 31, 1916, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Rantoul, Ill., for training. Acted as Test Pilot, Wilbur Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. Commissioned First Lieutenant, October 3, 1917; promoted to Captain, 1919. Sent to McCook Field, Dayton, Ohio, where he was killed in aeroplane accident, July 14, 1919. Buried, New Richmond, Ind.

KELLY, BRUCE--- Private
Son of George and Emma Mahan Kelly; born July 4, 1890, Livonia, Washington County, Ind. Moved to Montgomery County 1895. Factory employee. Entered service July 25, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 41st Company, 11th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Contracted pneumonia, and died October 5, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried in Crawfordsville, Ind.

KESSLER, WILLIAM J.--- Private
Son of Jacob and Bell Kessler; born December 4, 1892, Montgomery County, Ind. Attended Purdue University. Farmer. Entered service August, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 30th Company, 8th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Contracted influenza, and died October 11, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried in LO.O.F. Cemetery, New Ross, Ind.

Son of Andrew J. (deceased) and Fannie McCrery; born June 1, 1895, State Line, Ind. Moved to Montgomery County in 1896. Factory employee. Entered Service July 25, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 41st Company, 11th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Company '), Ammunition Train. Contracted pneumonia and died January 7, 1919, Camp McClellan. Buried at Ladoga, Ind.

Employed in Quartermaster Department, Detroit, Mich. Entered the U.S. Marine Corps May 15, 1919, Detroit, Mich. Received training at (Quantico's, Va. Embarked from New York in June, 1919. Died of disease September 10, 1919, Brest, France. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville, Ind.

MELVIN, FRED LAWRENCE ---Seaman
Son of Charles H. and Rachel E. Melvin; born January 23, 1897, Eminence, Kan. Moved to Montgomery County, Ind., 1913. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Navy June 27, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Ill. Transferred to Hampton Roads; assigned to the Iowa. Sailed from Norfolk, Va. September 27, 1918. Became ill on board ship, and upon arrival in New York removed to Bellevue Hospital, where he died October 6, 1918. Buried at Alamo, Montgomery County, Ind.

MILLER, DANIEL G. ---Corporal
Son of Jacob H. and Eliza A. Miller; born June 13, 1891, Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, Ind. Moved to Montgomery County in 1915. Machinist. Enlisted June 13, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.: later transferred to San Antonia, Tex.; assigned to Battery F, 19th Field Artillery. Died of typhoid fever November 24, 1917, San Antonia, Tex. Buried at Lawrenceburg, Ind.

MYERS, STANFORD A. ---Sergeant
Son of Emanuel M. and Adaline V. Myers (both deceased); born July 27, 1888, Crawfordsville, Ind. Assistant Manager of shoe store. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army in May, 1917, Fargo, N. D. Trained at Camp Fargo, N. D.; Camp Greene, N. C.; and Camp Merritt, N. J. Overseas in December 1918; assigned to Company D, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action October 7, 1918. in the Argonne Forest. Buried at Exermont, France.

O'CONNOR, MAURICE ---Private
Son of Maurice (deceased) and Mary O'Connor; born July 12, 1886, Whitesville, Montgomery County, Ind. Real estate and insurance agent. Enlisted in Missouri National Guard (date not given) St. Louis, Mo. Sent to Galveston, Tex.; assigned to Company C, 138th Infantry. Died of tubercular meningitis April 16, 1918, Galveston, Tex. Buried in Calvary Cemetery, Crawfordsville, Ind.

ORRICK, JASPER H.--- Private
Son of George W. and M. E. Orrick; born April 15, 1895, Tate Springs, Tenn. Moved to Montgomery County, Ind. in 1917. Farmer. Entered service May 28, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Overseas August 6, 1918; assigned to Company C, 126th Infantry, 32nd Division. Wounded October 4, 1918 near Cierges. Taken to Hospital No. 127, where he died October 5, 1918. Buried in Cemetery of 127th Field Hospital, near Montfaucon.

PEFFLEY, GRANT ERNEST ---Private
Son of David H. and Mary M. Peffley; born October 7. 1886, Ladoga, Montgomery County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 24, 1918, Glendive, Montana. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa. Transferred to Camp Jessup, Ga.; assigned to Company G, Motor Truck Service. Embarked from Hoboken, N. J., November 1, 1918. Died of lobar pneumonia January 27, 1919, in hospital Langres, Haute Marne. Buried in American Cemetery No. 516, Langres, France.

Son of Ora and Cora Pickett; born August 26, 1896, near Alamo, Montgomery County, Ind. Student at Wabash College. Entered U.S. Navy May 31, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill.; assigned to Company M, Wireless Telegraphy. Contracted pneumonia and died, November 10, 1918, Great Lakes Naval Training Station. Buried at Waynetown, Ind.

Son of John J. and Laura Divine Sloan; born October19, 1890, Crawfordsville, Ind. Graduate of Wabash College. Farmer. Entered service October, 1917, Miles City, Montana. Trained at Camp Lewis, Wash., and Camp Greene, S. C. Assigned to 47th Infantry, 4th Division. With 165th or 166th Infantry at time of death. Went overseas in May, 1918. Killed in action, July 28, 1918, Seringes, France. Buried in Cemetery at Seringes-et-Nesles, France.

Contracted pneumonia, and died December 7, 1918, Ft. Niagara, N.Y. Buried in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery, near Brown's Valley, Ind.

Benjamin Harrison, Ind., in May 1917. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company B, 334th Infantry, 84th (Lincoln) Division. Embarked September 1, 1918. Died October 14, 1918, Hospital No. 101, Fort Manor, England. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville. Survived by widow, Anna Warbritton, Ft. Wayne, Ind.

WINGERT, HAROLD ---Private
Son of Baily and Laura R. Wingert; born November 30, 1889, Ladoga, Montgomery County, Ind. Conductor. Entered service March 29, 1918, Crawfordsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company H, 112th Infantry, 28th Division. Sent to Camp Upton, New York; embarked May 7, 1918. Wounded August 10, 1918, in "Death Valley" near Fismes. Died following day in Field Hospital No. 111. Buried in American Cemetery, Chateau de la Foret, Aisne.

YOUNGMAN, ROBERT PERL --- Lieutenant Colonel
Son of William and Etta Hewlings Youngman; born February 5, 1879, De Graff, Ohio. Moved to Montgomery County, Ind., 1891. Merchant. Served in Spanish-American War. Appointed Major of the 2nd Indiana Regiment, National Guard, May 13, 1917. Transferred to 4th Regiment, 139th Field Artillery. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Taken ill at Jeffersonville; removed to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Discharged January 21, 1918, due to physical disability. Died January 29, 1918, Crawfordsville. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by widow, Vera Smith Youngman, Crawfordsville, Ind.
