Son of Cassius S. and Sophia B. Baker; born March 29, 1899, Thomasboro, Ill. Moved to Morgan County, Ind., in 1914. Assistant cableman. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy April 1, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Trained at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Ill. Transferred to New York: assigned to the Battleship Arizona. Died of meningitis July 7, 1917, Naval Hospital, Norfolk, Va. Buried in Liberty Churchyard, Martin County, Ind.

BARGER, MARTIN ELLSWORTH - - - Corporal
Son of Ira Ellsworth and Eva Ella Barger; born December 7, 1888, Martinsville, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Company K, 1st Infantry, Indiana National Guard, June 25, 1916, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Promoted to Corpora1. Sent to Army and Navy General Hospital, Hot Springs, Ark., where he died of tuberculosis November 5, 1917. Buried in South Park Cemetery, Martinsville, Ind.

BRAGG, WORTH WAYNE - - - Wagoner
Son of William and Sarah Bragg; born January 15, 1889, near Martinsville, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army October 28, 1911. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; then to Huachuca, Ariz; later to Nogales, Ariz. Re-enlisted November 1914, in Wagon Supply Company, 20th Infantry, Ft. Bliss, Tex. While serving as wagoner between Ft. Bliss and El Paso, contracted pneumonia and died, March 8, 1917, Ft. Bliss, Tex. Buried in Duckworth Cemetery, Morgan County, Ind.

CLARK, REX - - - Private
Son of John and Mary E. Clark; born October 20, 1895, Ingalls, Madison County, Ind. Moved to Morgan County in 1899. Farmer. Entered service July 26, 1918, Nashville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Battery A, 36th Field Artillery. Died of disease January 20, 1919, Camp McClellan, Ala. Buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Morgan County, Ind.

CULMER, BRUCE N. - - - Private
Son of William W. and Josephine N. Culmer; born January 8, 1890, Martinsville, Ind. Attended Indiana and Illinois State Universities. Railroad employee. Entered service November 27, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Trained at Pittsburg, Pa., Chicago, Ill. Transferred to Camp Mineola, Long Island; assigned to Aviation Section, Signal Corps, 816th Aero Squadron. Killed in aeroplane accident July 9, 1918, Mineola, Long Island. Buried at Martinsville, Ind.

DILLON, ORVAL VICTOR - - - Sergeant
Son of Luther and Jane Dillon; born April 4, 1888, Monrovia, Morgan County, Ind. Attended Valparaiso University. City salesman for Schnull & Company, Indianapolis, Ind. Entered service September 22, 1917, Indianapolis. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company L, 334th Infantry, 84th Division. Overseas September, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 10, 1918, near Razac, France. Buried at Perigueux, Dordogne, France. American Legion Post. Monrovia, Ind., named the Suit-Dillon Post. (See p. 466)

FIELDS, HOWARD HALSTEAD - - - Private, U.S.M.C
Son of Mr. and Mrs. James Fields; born August 31, 1895, Mooresville, Morgan County, Ind. Conductor. Enlisted in U.S. Marines June, 1917. Trained at Parris Island, and Quantico, Va. Assigned to 97th Company, 6th Regiment, 2nd Division, U.S. Marines. Killed in action October 13, 1919 (Place of burial not known.)

FOLEY, RALPH MORTON - - - Private
Son of Henry D. and Millie J. Foley; born February 2, 1898, Garrett, Douglas County, Ill. Moved to Morgan County, Ind., in 1915. Farmer. Enlisted in Company G, Illinois National Guard, August 16, 1917 (Company G, 130th Infantry). Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Transferred to Effingham, Ill. Sent to Camp Logan, Tex., where he was killed February 13, 1918, by two Negro prisoners whom he was guarding. Buried at Hall, Morgan County, Ind.

FULTZ, ADAM EDGAR - - - Private
Son of Joseph and Mary Fultz; born January 2, 1899, Martinsville, Ind. Canning factory employee. Enlisted in Company K, 1st Infantry, Indiana National Guard (Company K, 151st Infantry) August 14, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Replacement Draft. Sailed for France in May 1918. Assigned to Company B, 101st Infantry, 26th Division. Died of wounds October 24, 1918 received in Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

HATLEY, WILLIAM - - - Private
Son of Charles and Ollie Hatley; born August 1, 1890, Martinsville, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 23, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Minneapolis, Minn.; transferred to Camp Devens, Mass.; assigned to Company B, 36th Infantry. Died of disease September 24, 1918, Camp Devens. Buried in Hilldale Cemetery, Martinsville, Ind.

HEAD, FRANKLIN EVERETT - - -  Private
Son of Joseph and Minnie Head; born November 23, 1894, Hall, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 22, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 28th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Battery B, 35th Field Artillery; later to Battery F, 35th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia October 12, 1918, Camp McClellan. Buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall, Ind.

JONES, MONROE W. - - - Private
Son of Evan and Mary F. Jones; born September 21, 1886, near Lebanon, Boone County, Ind. Moved to Morgan County 1899. Farmer. Entered service in August 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio. Assigned to 29th Company, 8th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 9, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Morgan County, Ind.

KUHN, GEORGE EDWARD - - - Private
Son of Lewis V. and Annie C. Kuhn; born February 28, 1896, Nashville, Ind. Moved to Morgan County in June 1896. Candy maker. Entered service September 3, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Trained at Camp Grant, Ill.; assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Limited Service Regiment. Died of influenza October 5, 1918, Camp Grant, Ill. Buried at Morgantown, Ind.

MAGENHEIMER, VALENTINE ALBERT - - - Private
Son of Albert Clair and Elizabeth Magenheimer; born May 17, 1876, St. Charles, Mo. Moved to Indiana about 1890. Physician. Enlisted April, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Assigned to Medical Corps. Trained at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Killed in automobile accident July 29, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Waverly, Ind. Survived by widow, Laura Magenheimer, daughter, Alice Feme Magenheimer, and son, Albert Clair Magenheimer, Waverly, Morgan County, Ind.

MEREDITH, ERVIN DISCO - - - Private
Son of George W. and Barbara M. Meredith; born March 4, 1896, Hall, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 27, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company I, 333rd Infantry, 84th Division. Transferred to Camp Mills, N.Y. Overseas September 2, 1918. Died of pneumonia at Camp Hospital No. 78, Chateau Razac, France, October 20, 1918. Buried in Grave No. 536, American Cemetery, La Roche, Dordogne, France.

NORMAN, MAURICE - - -Corporal
Son of William and Sarah Emeline Norman; born February 8, 1893, Morgantown, Morgan County, Ind. Employed in Diamond Chain Works, Indianapolis, at time of enlistment, September 21, 1917. Trained at Camp Taylor, Ky., Camp Houston, Tex., and Camp Upton, L. L Assigned to Company G, 131st Infantry. Sailed for France May 22, 1918. Killed in action October 18, 1918, near Metz. Buried in Cemetery at Verdun, France.

PHILLIPS, FLOYD V. - - - Private
Son of Jeptha and Emma Phillips; born October 4, 1888, Centerton, Morgan County, Ind. Laborer. Entered service June 2, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Jackson, S. C; assigned to Supply Company, 2nd Regiment, Field Artillery; later to supply Company, 2nd Regiment, Field Artillery Replacement Draft. Died of pneumonia November 4, 1918, Camp Jackson, S. C. Buried in Mooresville Cemetery, Mooresville, Ind.

PRYOR, HENRY GROVER - - - Private
Son of James M. and Mary B. Pryor; born June 26, 1893, Ashland Township, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in 1917, but rejected on account of physical disabilities. Entered Selective Service July 22, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 28th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia September 16, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky.

RATLIFF, WILLIAM ALEXANDER - - - Private
Son of William C. (deceased) and Eva Ratliff, born March 10, 1899, Washington Township, Morgan County, Ind. Barber. Enlisted in Company K, 1st Infantry, Indiana National Guard, (Company K, 151st Infantry) April 14, 1917, Martinsville. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas June 11, 1918; assigned to Company F, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Died of wounds October 10, 1918. Survived by widow, Minnie Anderson Ratliff, and son, John William, Indianapolis.

SMITH, LEO - - - Private
Son of George W. and Mary Pruitt Smith; born October 19, 1901, Morgan County, Ind. Laborer. Enlisted in Company K, 1st Infantry, Indiana National Guard (Company K, 151st Infantry) Martinsville, April 27, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; transferred to Headquarters Company, 151st Infantry. Overseas June, 1918; assigned to Headquarters Company, 162nd Infantry. Transferred to Company I, 23rd Infantry, 2nd Division. Killed in action October 12, 1918. (Place of death and burial unknown.)

SPOOR, MILLARD McNEFF - - - Private
Son of John S. and Lola McNeff Spoor; born November 5, 1894, Brooklyn, Morgan County, Ind. Student at Indiana University. Entered service September 19, 1917 Blooming- ton, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Sailed for France May 2, 1918. Assigned to Company B, 103rd Infantry, 26th Division. Killed in action September 26, 1918, St. Mihiel. Buried at Thiaucourt, Grave 207, Section 16, Plot 4. Survived by widow, Gleeda Spoor, Albany, Ore.

SUIT, FRANK H. - - - Private
Foster-son of Howard and Hattie Suit; born April 28, 1895, Newark, Ohio. Moved to Morgan County, Ind., about 1912. Bookkeeper. Entered service May 17, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; assigned to Company C, 60th Engineers; later assigned to 69th Company Engineers. Sailed overseas June 30, 1918. Died of meningitis February 13, 1919, Base Hospital No. 81, Bazoilles-sur-Meuse, Vosges, France. Buried, Bazoilles, France. American Legion Post, Monrovia, Ind., named the Suit-Dillon Post.

TALLEY, IRA MANLEY - - - Sergeant
Son of Noah and Flora Cox Talley; born May 3, 1894, Winston-Salem, N. C. Moved to Indiana in 1912. Student at Central Business School. Bookkeeper. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, December 10, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Trained at Ft. Thomas, Ky., Camp Hancock, Ga., and Camp Greene, N. C.; assigned to 4th Motor Mechanics Regiment, Signal Corps. Died of emphysema, Camp Greene, N. C., May 25, 1918. Buried at Mooresville, Ind. Survived by widow, Norris May Talley, Mooresville, Ind.

THURMAN, GEORGE - - - Private
Son of John and Syrilda Haas Thurman; born November 21, 1894, Jackson Township, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army December 14, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 4th Recruiting Company Aviation Section, Signal Corps, unassigned. Died of pneumonia February 8, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky. (Burial place not given.)

VOYLES, RALPH - - - Gunner's Mate, 2nd Class
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Voyles; born October 13, 1893, near Martinsville, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted as Apprentice Seaman, in U.S. Navy July 12, 1916, Indianapolis, Ind. Stationed at Great Lakes Training School, Ill.; transferred to duty on the Wyoming, then the Arkansas, and later to the Mississippi. Died of pneumonia at Navy Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y. January 22, 1919. Buried in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, near Martinsville, Ind.

WAMPLER, JAMES BUELL - - - Private
Son of James M. and Cora B. Wampler; born February 9, 1892, Monroe County, Ind. Moved to Morgan County in 1909. Farmer. Entered service July 30, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Syracuse, N.Y.; assigned to 23rd Company, 6th Battalion, Recruiting Camp. Transferred to Camp Merritt, N.J.; assigned to Guard and Fire Company, No. 338. Died of pneumonia October 8, 1918, Camp Merritt, N. J. Buried in South Park Cemetery, Martinsville, Ind.

WILLIAMS, JAMES HOWARD - - - Private
Son of Alva Flavia and Ida B. Williams; born January 28, 1897, Jefferson Township, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 15, 1918, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Winona Lake, Ind.; assigned to Motor Transport Service. Died of pneumonia at Winona Lake, October 25, 1918. Buried in Umon Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Morgan County, Ind.

WILSON, OTIS ALFRED - - - Private
Son of David L. and Angeline Wilson; born February 25, 1894, Stilesville, Hendricks County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 6, 1917, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; later to Camp Merritt, N. J. Overseas in June, 1918; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 39th Infantry, 4th Division. Fought at Chateau-Thierry, and in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Killed in action October 10, 1918. Buried on field where he fell.

ZOOK, CLAUDE EDGAR - - - Private
Son of Marion A. and Laura Zook (both deceased); born July 9, 1896, Green Township, Morgan County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Indiana National Guard August 27, 1917, Martinsville, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company K, 151st Infantry, 38th Division. Overseas June 7, 1918. Re-assigned to Company B, 12th Machine Gun Battalion, 4th Division. Died September 30, 1918, of wounds received in the Meuse-Argonnc Offensive. (Place of burial not known.)

ZOOK, JOHN HENDRICKS - - - Corporal, U.S.M.C.
Son of Charles and Lou Goodpaster Zook; born September 29, 1892, Mooresville, Morgan County, Ind. Lineman. Enlisted in U.S. Marines August 15, 1915. Sent to Norfolk, Va.; served in Santo Domingo. Overseas in June 1917; assigned to 18th Company, 5th Regiment, 2nd Division. Participated in battles of Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne. Killed in action October 5, 1918, Mont Blanc Ridge. Buried Mont Blanc Ridge, France.
