Orleans, IN - Aug 13, 1897 - Claud Miller, the young farmer of Stamper's Creek Township, this county, who attempted to cut his wife's throat a few days ago and then escaped a mob, committed suicide at the home of his brother by blowing off the top of his head with a shotgun while in a room by himself.  His funeral occurred at Stamper's Creek yesterday.

Powell, Bernice Laura
Shoals - Aug 26, 1983 - Bernice Laura Powell, 71, died at the Orange County Hospital at 9:30pm Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Monday from the Queen-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Butler officiating.  Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.  Friends may call in the funeral home after 1 pm Sunday.  Bernice McNeff was born Aug 2, 1912 in martin County, the daughter of Clint and Rosa Way McNeff.  She married Harvey Powell in 1936, who survives.  She was a member of the Fairview United Meethodist Church in Shoals.  Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Anna) Lynch of West Baden and mrs. John (Rosa) Bolten of Washington; one sister Mrs. William (Dorothy) Pinnick of Shoals; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Carter, T.P. "Dr"
Orleans Ind. Sept. 18.—Dr. T. P. Carter the oldest practicing  physician Orange County died suddenly at his home In Orangeville, west of this place, yesterday morning of congestion of the stomach, aged seventy-two. Dr. Carter was quite wealthy, being one of the largest land owners of the county. His wife and one son survive him.

Stout, Iram
Paoli, Ind., Dec 14.—Iram Stout, a pioneer of this county, was buried to-day, aged eighty-eight. He was born in Orange County N.C., 1808, and came to Orange county, Indiana, nine years later. He was the head of a large and influential family, there being six children, forty-six grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. His sons, John T. and Amos Stout, are well-known merchants and bankers in this city. John T.Stout was a delegate to the St. Louis convention.

Kesterson, Alfred
Co D 38th IN Inf Pvt. Resided Orange Co IN. Elisted 4 Oct 1861 Co I 38th IN Inf Reg. Born 1841, the son of Jonathan & Mary (Painter) Kesterson.  Alfred died 8 October 1862 at the Battle of Perryville KY.  He was brought home by his father and buried in teh Robert Hall Farm Cemetery in Dubois Co IN.  Albert was the father of only one child, a son, George Washington Kesterson, born 6 Aug 1861 in Dubois Co IN.

Kesterson, Benjamin
CO G 49th IN Inf. Private.  Resided Orange Co IN.  Enlisted 21 Nov 1861.  Died at Cumberland Ford KY 3 Apr 1862.  Benjamin was born 1843, the son of Jonathan & Mary (Painter) Kesterson.  He died in the line of duty 3 April 1862 in the same battle that his brother Alfred died, in Perryville KY.  See more on the KESTERSON brothers.

Kesterson,  Lucia (Hatfield)
Spring Valley IN - (1849-1928)  Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church here last Friday for Mrs. Alexander (Lucia Hatfield) Kesterson, who died at her home south east of Paoli on Thursday, July 19 (1928).  The services were in charge of Elder W.C. Hancock, of Youngs Creek.  Mrs Kesterson had been ill for some time.  Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter and several sons, all married.

WEBB, JAMES W
Orange Co- Sudden death of an Old Citizen.  Mr. James W Webb, for over thirty years as a citizen of Orleans, Orange Co, and a well known business man of that town, died suddently at his home at 8 o'clock last night.  His son who is employed in the wholesale house of W.S. Culbertson & Son, left for Orleans on the train this morning to attend the funeral.
