Transferred to Camp Colt, Pa.; assigned to Company A, 337th Tank Corps.
Died of pneumonia October 17, 1918, Camp Colt, Pa. Buried, New
Maysville, Putnam County, Ind.

Son of Charles and Elizabeth Adkins
(both deceased); born November 20, 1887, Fontanet, Vigo County, Ind.
Moved to Putnam County, Ind., in 1908. Fireman. Enlisted in U.S.
Regular Army in May, 1917, St. Louis Mo. Sent to Douglas, Ariz.;
assigned to Headquarters Company, 10th Field Artillery. Overseas in
March 1918. Wounded in action October 10, and died October 19, 1918.
Buried, Thiaucourt, Meurthe-et-Mosselle, France.

Martha Aker; born December 10, 1893, Reelsville, Putnam County, Ind.
Barber. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army January 19, 1917, Indianapolis,
Ind. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Company B, 6th
Infantry. Went overseas in April 1918; assigned to Headquarters
Company, 6th Infantry. Killed in action November 10, 1918. (Place
unknown.)

Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army January 29, 1917, Greencastle, Ind. Sent
to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 6th
Infantry. Transferred to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Embarked for overseas
April 9, 1918. Killed in action September 14, 1918, near Thiaucourt, in
St. Mihiel Drive. (Burial place unknown.)

October 20, 1894, Lancaster, Ky. Living on a farm in Putnam County,
Ind., when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 17, 1917, Lafayette,
Ind. Sent to Ft. Sill, Okla.; assigned to Battery A, 14th Field
Artillery. Died of pneumonia January 1, 1919, Ft. Sill, Okla. Buried in
Brick Chapel Cemetery, Putnam County, Ind.
BOONE, RALPH D. - - - Private
Son of Moses and Mary Boone; born
January 11, 1895. Greencastle, Ind. Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular
Army May 11, 1917, Greencastle, Ind. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio.
Transferred to Camp Baker, Tex.; assigned to Company L, 16th Infantry.
Went overseas in June 1917, with First Division. In combat service from
November 1917, until he was killed in action, July 4, 1918. (Place
unknown.)
COLLINS, LEE R. - - - Corporal
Son of James and Margaret Collins;
born September 7, 1893. near Cloverdale, Putnam County, Ind. Living in
Minneapolis, Minn., where he enlisted in Minnesota National Guard,
Battery A, 151st Field Artillery, 42nd (Rainbow Division), July 28,
1917. Overseas in October 1918. Killed in action July 28, 1918, battle
of Ourcq. Buried in French Military Cemetery Ourcq, France. The
Hurst-Collins Post of the American Legion, Cloverdale, Ind., named in
his honor.
FORD, DWIGHT - - -Corporal
Son of James M. and Theresa Ford;
born in November 1890- Bainbridge, Putnam County, Ind. Laborer. Entered
service September 21, 1917, Greencastle, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.;
assigned to 32nd Company, 8th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Embarked
for overseas May 10, 1918; assigned to Company E, 6th Infantry.
Participated in battles of St. Mihiel, and Argonne Forest. Killed in
action October 14, 1918, Argonne Drive. (Burial place unknown).
GIBSON, MILLARD EDWARD - - - Fireman,

Son of Elmer E. and Katherine R.
Gibson; born October 29, 1899, Greencastle, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Navy
June 8, 1918 Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Brooklyn Naval Yards, N.Y.;
assigned to duty as Fireman, on the Battleship Maine. Died of pneumonia
December 15, 1918, Brooklyn Naval Hospital. Buried in Forest Hill
Cemetery, Greencastle, Ind.
HAYS, ANDREW - - - Private
Son of Mrs. Martha Hays; born
November 12, 1898, Indianapolis, Ind. Spent most of his life in
Greencastle, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army December 31, 1916. Sent
to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Company M, 3rd Infantry. Served
on Mexican Border. Embarked for overseas June 14, 1917; assigned to
Company K, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. Died August 22, 1918 from
wounds received in action. Cited by Division Commander, for bravery in
action. (Burial place unknown.)
HURST, CLYDE AUSTIN - - - Private

born January 8, 1891, Belle Union, Putnam County, Ind. Clerk. Entered
service July 1, 1918, Greencastle, Ind. Sent to Valparaiso University;
assigned to Company B, Training Detachment. Transferred to Burlington,
Vt.; assigned to 46th Company, Signal Corps. Died of pneumonia October
12, 1918, Burlington, Vt. Buried in Cloverdale Cemetery, Cloverdale,
Ind. The Hurst-Collins Post of the American Legion, Cloverdale, Ind.,

February 9, 1895. Danville, Ind. Living on a farm near Greencastle,
Ind., when he entered service September 23, 1917. Sent to Camp Taylor,

Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; embarked for overseas June 11, 1918;
assigned to Company D, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action

October 9, 1892, Groveland, Putnam County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Navy
in 1911. Served four years; honorably discharged. Entered U.S. Army
August 16, 1918, Greencastle, Ind. Sent to Camp Dix, N.J.; assigned to
Company G, 136th Infantry. Died of pneumonia September 30, 1918, Base
Hospital, Camp Dix, N.J. Buried at Groveland, Putnam County, Ind.

Montgomery; born January 5, 1891, near Seymour, Ind. Moved to Putnam
County, Ind. in 1916. Bank clerk. Entered service October 5, 1917,
Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Fort Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Camp
Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 318th Auxiliary Remount Depot. Died of
pneumonia December 13, 1917. Buried in Seymour, Ind.
MOORE, HARRY R. - - - Corporal

Moore; born January 22, 1894, Greencastle, Ind. Enlisted in U.S.
Regular Army, May 7, 1917, Greencastle. Sent to Jefferson Barracks,
Mo.; assigned to Company G, 7th Infantry. Transferred to Gettysburg,
Pa. Embarked for overseas October 27, 1917; assigned to Company D, 18th
Infantry, 1st Division. Died July 22, 1918, from wounds received in
battle of Soissons. Buried iu American Cemetery No. 462, Suresnes,
Seine, France.

8th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Beauregard, La.
Embarked overseas August 6, 1918; assigned to Company L, 125th
Infantry, 32nd Division. Killed in action October 9, 1918, near Cote
Dame Marie, Hill No. 258, France.
SANDERS, JOHN HENRY - - - Private

(Hardwick); born April 27, 1887, Wayne County, Ind. Taxi-driver,
Greencastle, Ind., when he entered service June 15, 1918. Sent to
Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Training Schoo1. Transferred to Camp
Hancock, Ga. Overseas in August 1918; assigned to 3rd Company, Ordnance
Replacement Depot. Died of disease February 21, 1919, Base Hospital No.
63, France. Body returned to U.S., and buried in Forest Hill Cemetery,
Greencastle, Ind.
SCRIBNER, CARL W. - - - Private
Son of Nelson Ford and Jessie C.
Scribner; born January 1, 1898, Russellville, Putnam County, Ind.
Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 6, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent
to Ft. Barrancas, Fla.; assigned to 15th Company, Coast Artillery
Corps. Overseas in October 1918. While cleaning his gun was
accidentally shot, January 29, 1919. Buried in Lambezella Cemetery,
Brest, France. The American Legion Post, Russellville, Ind., named in
his honor.
SNYDER, PERRY B. - - - Sergeant
Son of Lincoln Douglass and Catherine
Perry Snyder; born May 27, 1893, Greencastle, Ind. Florist. Enlisted in
U.S. Regular Army May 8, 1917, Greencastle. Sent to Jefferson Barracks,
Mo.; transferred to Ft. Bliss, Tex.; assigned to Company G, 7th
Infantry, 3rd Division. Transferred to Camp Green, N.C. Overseas April
6, 1918. Participated in battles of Belleau Woods, and second battle of
the Marne. Wounded June 18, 1918, and died the following day.
THOMAS, ELBERT RAY - - - Private
Son of Jacob and Amanda Thomas; born
May 18, 1895, Putnam County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 5,
1917, Greencastle, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 31st
Company, 8th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp
Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June 1918; assigned to Company F, 101st
Infantry, 25th Division. Killed in action October 25, 1918, Argonne
Forest. (Burial place unknown.)
TIMMONS, GARNIE - - - Master Engineer
Son of Elvin C. and Rebecca Timmons;
born September 19, 1887, Groveland, Putnam County, Ind. Enlisted in
U.S. Regular Army July 30, 1913, Ft. McDowell, Cal. Assigned to duty in
Panama Canal Zone as Engineer. Embarked for overseas June 30, 1918,
with Company F, 30th Engineers. Participated in battles of St. Mihiel,
Argonne, and Meuse Offensive. Transferred to Chemical War Service Unit,
after signing of Armistice. Died February 14, 1919, from accidental
causes. (Burial place unknown.)
