Enlisted in Company F, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard (Battery D, 150th Field Artillery.) June 22, 1916, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; assigned to 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Overseas October 18,  1917. Died August 25, 1918, Hospital No. 202. Buried in American Military Cemetery near hospital where he died. American Legion Post, Saratoga, Ind. named in his honor.

BORROR, CLARENCE WELLINGTON ---Private
Son of Isaac Martin and Dorothy Madeline Borror (deceased); born October, 1894, Winchester, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 5, (?) 1917, (September 20, 1917) Winchester. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company G, 157th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Embarked June 11, 1918; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 16th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action at Chatcau-Thiery, July 19, 1918. (Burial place unknown.) Cited for bravery in action.

BOTKIN, CHAUNCEY C. ---Private
Son of Edward T. and Rosa Botkin; born March 27, 1889, Stony Creek Township, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 20, 1917, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company A, 151st Infantry. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Embarked June 11, 1918; assigned to Company B, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action October 5, 1918, Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Buried in the Argonne-American Cemetery, No. 1232, Grave 141, Section 27, Plot 3, Romagne, France. American Legion Post, Farmland, Ind., named in his honor.

BROWN, LLOYD E. ---Sergeant
Son of Edward C. and Addie Florence Brown; born December 19, 1895, Losantville, Randolph County, Ind. Teacher. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 8, 1916, Richmond, Ind. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Transferred to Camp Meade, Md.; assigned to Company A, 301st Headquarters Battalion, Training Corps. Sailed March 28, 1918. Died of spinal meningitis July 16, 1918. Isolation Hospital, Weymouth, England. Body returned and buried, Losantville, Ind.

BURRES, CHARLES CULBERSON ---U.S. Navy
Son of Stephen Augustus and Lillie Jane Burres (deceased): born June 23, 1883, Farmland, Randolph County, Ind. Traveling salesman. Served in Spanish-American War, and U.S. Navy four years. Again entered Navy April 8, 1918. Died in Naval Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y., May 14, 1918. Body sent to Los Angeles, Ca1., cremated, and ashes scattered on Pacific Ocean. Survived by widow, Jessie McClain Burres, and children, Bruce, Walton, and Charles Burres, Jr., Los Angeles, Ca1.

CARPENTER, JOHN EARL ---Private
Son of John O. and Rose Alice Carpenter; born September 23, 1899, Ridgeville, Randolph County, Ind. Student. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 1917, Richmond, Ind. Trained at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. Assigned to Depot Company 1, Signal Corps. Overseas December 24, 1917; assigned to Company B, 1st Field Battalion, Signal Corps. Died June 15, 1918, of wounds received at La Ferte, France. Buried in American Cemetery, La Ferte, France. American Legion Post, Ridgeville, Ind., named in his honor.

CHAPIN, LESLIE DANIEL ---Private
Son of William Sanford and Addie May Chapin; born August 27, 1898, near Somerville, Butler County, Ohio. Moved to Indiana April, 1911. Clerk. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, May 8, 1917, Muncie, Ind. Sent to Camp Baker, then El Paso, Tex.; assigned to Company A, 2nd Regular Engineers. Went overseas September 11, 1917. Killed in action July 1, 1918, at Vaux, France, where he and his comrades were mistaken for retreating Germans. Buried at Monneaux, Aisne, France.

COATS, HERMAN ---Private
Son of Luther E. and Melissa C. Coats; born August 2, 1892, PauMing County, Ohio. Moved to Randolph County, Ind. in 1900. Owner of garage. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army September 12, 1917, Texarkana, Ark. Sent to Ft. Riley, Kan.; assigned to Medical Department, Field Hospital Company 21, Sanitary Train No. 4. Overseas May 26, 1918. Killed while aiding wounded soldiers, October 1, 1918. Buried north of Cuisy, France. Survived by widow Addie Coats, and daughter Herman Elverna Coats.

CUMMINGS, JOSEPH EUGENE ---Private
Son of Daniel Joseph and Mary Theresa Cummings; born June 26, 1893, Guelph, Canada. Came to Randolph County, Ind.. about 1905. Glass worker. Entered service May 28, 1918, Catonsville, Md. Sent to Camp Meade, Md.; assigned to 9th Training Battalion, 154th Depot Brigade; later to Company L, 313th Infantry, 79th Division. Embarked July 8, 1918. Killed in action September 26, 1918, Montfaucon area. Buried in Argonne-American Cemetery No. 1232, Romagne, France.

DAVIDSON, EMMETT ---Private
Son of Charles A. and Lucretia M. Davidson; born April 16, 1889, Mercer County, Ky. Moved to Randolph County, Ind. in 1905. Proprietor of restaurant. Entered service September 21, 1917, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas June 12, 1918; assigned to Company M, 165th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Killed in action October 17, 1918, Sommerance, France. Buried, Landres-et-St. Georges, Ardennes, France. Survived by widow, Esta Davidson, Winchester, Ind.

FORD, HOWARD VIRGIL ---Private
Son of Levi Virgil and Ella Ford; born March 11, 1894, Farmland, Randolph County, Ind. Graduate of business College. Farmer. Entered service June 7, 1918, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Grant, 111.; assigned to Limited Service Company D. Died of pneumonia October 6, 1918, Base Hospital Camp Grant, 1ll. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Maxville, Randolph County, Ind.

FRAZIER, FRANCIS LEROY  ---Fireman, 3rd Class
Son of Hugh and Cora A. Frazier; born December 10, 1898, near Union City, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Navy July 31, 1918, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, 111. Transferred to Camp Luce, 1ll., awaiting orders to go out to sea. Taken ill, and died at Great Lakes Naval Hospital, 111. September 29, 1918. Buried in Jericho Cemetery, Randolph County, Ind.

FREEMAN, LLOYD THEO ---Cook
Son of Norman and Catherine Freeman (deceased); born January 11, 1900, Hagerstown, Wayne County, Ind. Enlisted in Aviation Branch of U.S. Regular Army November 6, 1917, Kokomo, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; transferred to Kelly Field, Tex.; assigned to 152nd Aero Squadron, Signal Corps; then to Chanute Field, 111. Embarked February 26, 1918. Died of pneumonia March 13, 1918, Hurshly Camp Hospital, Winchester, England. Buried in Salem Cemetery near Modoc, Randolph County, Ind.

GILMORE, CARCIE H. ---Private
Son of Andrew Clayton and Sarah Gertrude Gilmore (both deceased); born November 14, 1898, Nettle Creek Township, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Iowa National Guard, June 4, 1917, Des Moines, Iowa. Received training at Camp Logan, Tex.; assigned to Company D, 168th Infantry. Embarked from Camp Mills, N.Y. November 13, 1917. Died July 27, 1918, from wounds received in action. Buried, "Somewhere in France."

HARMAN, LESTER LEON ---Private
Son of Charles and Anna Harman (Boswell); born May 6, 1894, Winchester, Ind. Mail carrier. Entered service October 5, 1917, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company K, 162nd Infantry. Embarked June 16, 1918; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 16th Infantry. Died July 21, 1918, in Field Hospital No. 12, of wounds received in the Aisne-Marne Offensive. Body returned, and buried in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester. Cited for gallant conduct in Marne Offensive.

HICKS, JOSEPH ETHEL ---Private
Son of William Thomas and Martha Ann Hicks (deceased); born May 11, 1899, Cincinnati, Ohio, Moved to Randolph County, Ind., in April, 1917. Laborer. Enlisted in Ohio National Guard May 29, 1916, Cincinnati, Ohio. Served on Mexican Border. Sent to Camp Sheridan, Ala., assigned to 145th Hospital Corps. Died of pneumonia February 3, 1918, Camp Sheridan. Buried in Union City Cemetery, Union City, Ind.

HOUDASHELDT, GRANT BASIL ---Private
Son of John (deceased) and Mary E. Houdasheldt (Houser); born July 3rd, 1894, Kempton, Tipton County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 25, 1918, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Battery B, 36th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia, October 17, 1918, Camp McClellan. Buried in Spartanburg Cemetery. Survived by widow, Ruth Miller Houdasheldt, Spartanburg, Ind.

HOWELL, HARRY ---Private
Son of Harrison and Alice Howell; born October 17, 1895, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 5, 1917, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company M, 151st Infantry. Embarked June 13, 1918; assigned to Company E, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action October 9, 1918, Argonne Forest. Buried between Exermont and Sommerance, France. Survived by widow, Elsie Cox Howell, and daughter, Mildred Howell, Lynn, Ind.

IMEL, EARL C. ---Private
Son of Nathaniel and Emma Imel; born June 24, 1884, Union City, Randolph County, Ind. Barber. Enlisted in the Indiana National Guard June 16, 1916, Muncie, Ind. Trained at Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to 22nd Company, Reserve Corps Training Company. Sent to Mexican Border; assigned to Company L, 28th Infantry, 1st Division. Embarked in July 1917. Died of disease January 7, 1918, Gondrecourt, France. Buried in Gondrecourt Cemetery, Grave 28.

JENKINS, HOMER THEODORE ---Private
Son of Alonzo Theodore and Lillie Lenora Jenkins; born October 13, 1895, Petersburg, Pike County, Ind. Moved to Randolph County in 1913. Employee in glass factory. Entered service October 5, 1917, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Replacement Draft. Embarked June 11, 1918; assigned to Company C, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. Fought at St. Mihiel. Killed in action October 9, 1918. (Place of burial not known.)

KEEVER, ROY MITZEL ---Electrician, 1st Class
Son of George and Mary Elizabeth Keever; born July 22, 1890 near Mountain Grove. Mo. Moved to Randolph County, Ind. in June 1912. Telegrapher. Enlisted in U.S. Navy June 17, 1917, Minneapolis, Minn. Serving as radio operator on board the Barnegal. Went overseas December 19, 1917. Died of pneumonia March 5, 1919, at U.S. Naval Hospital No. 5, Brest, France. Buried in Military Cemetery, Kerfautras, Brest, France.

LEDBETTER, LELAND HOVEY ---Private
Son of Grant and Leora Ledbetter; born October 6, 1892, White River Township, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 26, 1918, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company M, 334th Infantry. Embarked September 2, 1918. Assigned to Company B, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Died of tuberculosis March 22, 1919, Base Hospital No. 106, near Bordeaux, France. Buried in Buenta Vista Cemetery, Randolph County. Ind.

LINDER, GUY ---Bandmaster
Son of Albert (deceased) and Florence Linder; born September 13, 1887, Parker, Randolph County, Ind. Musician. Entered U.S. Regular Army May 5, 1905. Serving on Mexican Border at expiration of first term of service. Re-enlisted at Ft. Logan, Colo, (date not given) where he died of disease October 18, 1918. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Maxville, Ind. Survived by widow, Adaline Linder (Irwin), Baltioa, Canal Zone, Panama.

McFADDEN, CLIFTON EARL ---Seaman, 2nd Class
Son of Denton George and Alda McFadden; born February 12, 1893, Ashland County, Ohio. Educated in Miami University, and Indiana University. Entered U.S. Naval Reserve September 22, 1918, Ridgeville, Ind. Began training on boat leaving Toledo, Ohio, for Port Arthur, Canada. Transferred to the F. H. Goodyear. Died of pneumonia October 14, 1918, St. Mary's Hospital, Duluth, Minn. Buried in Riverside Cemetery, Randolph County, Ind. Survived by widow, Claire Jean McFadden, Dunkirk, Ind.

McFARLAND, DAVID MARTIN ---Private
Son of Francis Henry and Elizabeth A. McFarland; born June 3, 1887, near Saratoga, Randolph County, Ind. Mechanic. Entered service June 25, 1918, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Training Detachment No. 1. Transferred to Camp Hancock, Ga.; final assignment 10th Company, Machine Gun Training Center. Died of pneumonia January 8, 1919, Camp Hancock, Ga. Buried in Saratoga Cemetery, Randolph County, Ind.

McFARLAND, WILLIAM FORREST, ---Fireman, 2nd Class
 Son of Francis Henry and Elizabeth A. McFarland; born August 11, 1893, near Saratoga, Randolph County, Ind. Foreman on telegraph line. Enlisted as Fireman in U.S. Navy November 21, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Norfolk, Va.; stationed on the receiving ship Richmond, and later on the Wisconsin. Died of pneumonia April 17, 1918, Naval Hospital at Norfolk, Va. Buried in Saratoga Cemetery, Randolph County, Ind.

MOORE, JAMES TOWNSEND (Colored) ---2nd Lieutenant
Son of Alfred and Lucinda Irvin Moore (both deceased) born August I5, 1893, Modoc, Randolph County, Ind. Employee of cement contractor. Enlisted (date not known), Lafayette, Ind. Entered Officers Training Camp, Camp Dodge, Iowa. Commissioned Second Lieutenant. Died of influenza October 19, 1918, Camp Dodge. Buried in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Ind.

NORRIS, FRANCIS ALBERT ---1st Sergeant
Son of Peter L. and Margaret Norris (both deceased); born May 25, 1869, Preble County, Ohio. Moved to Randolph County, Ind. in 1873. In U.S. Regular Army from 1899 to 1914. Served in Philippine Islands for three years. Embarked June 30, 1918 with Company C, 7th Engineers. Fought in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Died of pneumonia December 25, 1918. Buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery No. 1233, St. Mihiel, Thiaucourt, France.

PATRICK, JOHN ERVIN ---Private
Son of Frank and Nancy Patrick; born April 9, 1892, Windsor, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 5, 1917, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company K, 151st infantry. Went overseas June 11, 1918; assigned to Company D, 12th Machine Gun Battalion. Acting as runner in the Bois-de-Septsarges, northwest of Hill No. 304 before Verdun, when he was killed October 2, 1918. Body to be returned for burial.

RALSTON, WILBUR ---Private
Son of Frank and Mary Ralston (deceased); born May I5, 1897, Fletcher, Ohio. Moved to Winchester, Ind. in 1914. Farmer. Enlisted in Company A, 3rd Infantry, Ohio National Guard in August, 1917, Troy, Ohio. Trained at Camp Sherman, Ohio; Camp Sheridan, Ala.; Camp Lee, Va. Embarked June 22, 1918, with Company A, 148th Infantry, 37th Division. Died October 2, 1918, from wounds received in the Meuse- Argonne Offensive, Base Hospital No. 36. (Place of burial not known.)

REYNOLDS, CHARNELL ALLEN ---Captain
Son of Robert R. and Minnie V. Reynolds; born May 21 1888, Frankfort, Ind. Served one term enlistment in U.S. Army 1904-1907. Discharged. Moved to Lynn, Randolph County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 8, 1917, Kansas City, Mo. Stationed at Ft. Riley, Kan. Promoted to Captain of Company K, 354th Infantry, 89th Division. Embarked June 1, 1918. Returned to United States July 12, 1919. Died April 25, 1920, Oteen, N.C. Buried in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester. Survived by widow, Mary Reynolds, and daughter, Rose Reynolds, Lynn, Ind.

ROSENBUSH, CARL JOHN ---Private
Son of Henry G. and Caroline Keller Rosenbush; born January 12, 1894, Union City, Randolph County, Ind. Coal merchant. Entered service April 26, 1918. Sent to Camp Tyler, Ky.; assigned to 30th Company, 8th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia May 27, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried, Union City, Ind.

STARBUCK, THOMAS KERR ---Private
Son of William Henry and Ellen Kerr Starbuch; born December 21, 1893, Chicago, Ill. Moved to Union City, Ind. in 1907. Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army June 1914, Muncie, Ind. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Troop B, 17th U.S. Cavalry. Served three years in Philippines. Returned to Camp Harry Jones, Ariz. Died of pneumonia, March 2, 1919, Camp Harry Jones, Ariz. Buried, Union City, Ind.

STOVER, ORVILLE NOAH ---Private
Son of Charles E. and Clara Miley Stover; born August 5. 1900, Eldorado, Ohio. Parents living near Union City, Ind. Ditch contractor. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 23, 1917, Dayton, Ohio. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to Company I, 60th U.S. Infantry. Trained at Gettysburg, Pa., and Camp Greene, N.C. Embarked in April, 1918. Assigned to Company G, 60th Infantry. Died November 7, 1918, from wounds. Buried in American Cemetery, Esnes, Meuse, France. American Legion Post Union City, Ind. named in his honor.

SUMMERS, WILLIAM LORAN ---Private
Son of Elmer and Della F. Scott Summers (deceased); born May 15, 1898, Jay County, Ind. Moved to Randolph County in 1915. Farmer. Enlisted in Indiana National Guard (Company F, 152nd Infantry) June 21, 1916, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Automatic Replacement Draft. Embarked June 12, 1918; assigned to Company F, 166th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Killed in action July 29, 1918. Buried in American Cemetery No. 608, Seringes- et-Nesles, Grave 165, Section M, Plot 4.

WEIMER, ETHAN GALEN ---Private
Son of Joshua and Lourinda Weimer; born March 30, 1896, Green Township, Randolph County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 26, 1918, Winchester, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 7th Company, 2nd Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died December 25, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio, Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Maxville, Randolph County, Ind.
