Versailles, Indiana
May 28, 1899. Frank moody, living west of here, was shot with a
revolver and seriously wounded last night at a dance at the residence
of William Stegamolers, who resides on the “Devil’s Elbow” road,
between this place and Osgood. A large crowd was present and an
abundance of liquor refreshments was served, whish was too hot for the
season. John Young and john Brown, young men from Osgood, were placed
under arrest today for shooting Moody, and gave bond in the sum of
$1,000 each for the preliminary trial, which is set for the 16th of
June.
Ripley County
Oct.18,1899 An apple tree on the farm of Henry Bell, in Ripley County,
bears a triple crop, ripe apples, green apples, and blossoms, on the
same bough.
OSGOOD. Ind., June 10 - John Morgan and Frank Garrett, two men employed
in Adams's sawmill at Holton, while intoxicated, quarreled and Morgan
stabbed Garrett in the abdomen, disemboweling him. The wound proved
fatal in a few hours. The murdered man was about fifty years old, while
the murderer is a young man Garrett is still at large, but is being
trailed by curry's bloodhounds.

NEW ALBANY. Ind. Dec 5
Jasper Lingoi a green country boy from Milan, Ripley county; was
brought to this city today to answer the charge of breaking into the
postoffice at Milan Nov. 18. He was arraigned before United States
Commissioner Harrison and pleaded not guilty. The evidence was
considered sufficient to hold him, and he was taken to Indianapolis
tonight In default of $250 bond to await trial. Lingo claims he did not
break into the postoffice, but admits he received $5 for standing on
watch while two men did the work. Nearly $30 in money was stolen, but
no stamps were taken.
