Obituary of Rebekah "Becky" Tucker Lafary
In Loving Remembrance
Of our dear mother, Rebekah Lafary, nee Tucker, who departed this life December 4, 1910, aged 88 years, 5 months and 24 days.
She was born in the State of Ohio, June 10, 1822. In early life she was united in marriage to Joseph Lafary.
To this union were born 8 children, six sons and two daughters, seven of whom survive; also twenty-one grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her husband and one son preceded her to the great beyond several years ago.
She was confined in her bed for the last six years. During that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sam Black who has been her faithful and devoted nurse.
Rebeckah was a good woman.
She joined the Baptist church at Perseverance when quite young, during the preaching of Enoch G. Tilton and was immersed. She attended church as long as her health would permit. She loved to study the Bible and listen to songs of praise and words of blessing. She often expressed a desire to go and be at rest. A short time before she died she expressed these words: "Lord, please take me home."
Funeral services were conducted at the residence of Mrs. Sam Black {Ida Lafary}. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband, at the Perseverance cemetery.
She passed away quietly. To those who are left to mourn, in the words of the poet we would say: "Mother has gone but not forgotten. Never will her memory fade, Sweetest thoughts shall ever linger, Round the grave where she is laid. But a loving one from us is gone- A voice w loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home, That never can be filled. We miss thee, Oh, dear mother- We miss thee every place; We miss thy kind and loving hand, We miss the sunshine of they face, We loved thee, Oh, dear mother, But Jesus loved thee more, And He called thee home to dwell with Him. On that bright and happy shore. Dearest mother, thou hast left us, We thy loss most deeply feel, But 'tis God who has bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal. Yet again we hope to meet thee When the day of life is fled, Then in heaven with joy to greet you Where no farewell tears are shed.
  Card of Thanks

Especially do we wish to thank Rev. Gardner, who officiated at the last rites in a beautiful sermon; also Mrs. E Maude Bruce for singing, and all who sent floral offerings; also the pallbearers and the funeral director, F.M.
