Son of Oliver and Hattie Hamilton
Beale; born January 7, 1895, Findlay, Ohio. Moved to Rush County, Ind.
in 1905. Automobile mechanic. Enlisted in U.S. Navy early in 1917
(exact date not known), and was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training
Station, Chicago, 1ll. Promoted to Seaman. Lost his life when the U.S.
Naval Collier Cyclops was sunk, sometime between March 4, and March 13,
1918.
BORING, RAYMOND THOMAS ---Private
Son of Frank Marion (deceased) and
Mary Boring; born December 5, 1889, Rush County, Ind. Farmer. Entered
service July 25, 1918, Rushville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.;
assigned to 45th Company, 12th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade.
Transferred to Battery B, 6th Training Battalion, Field Artillery
Replacement Draft. Died of influenza October 16, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky.
Buried in Milroy Cemetery, Rush County, Ind.
COX, ELBERT H. ---Corporal
Son of Ambrose J. and Emma L. Cox;
born May 5, 1899, Compton, (?) Ky. Employee in planing mill, Rushville,
Ind., when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 15, 1917,
Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; assigned to Company
K, 18th Infantry. Went overseas in June 1917; attached to the First
Division. Killed in action July 18, 1918, battle of Soissons. (Burial
place unknown.)
DEERIN, JOHN W. ---Private
Son of George and Jennie Jones
Deerin; born October 9, 1891, near Rushville, Ind. Farmer. Entered
service September 20, 1917, Rushville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.
Transferred to Camp Logan, Tex.; assigned to Company F, 131st Infantry.
Embarked for overseas May 22, 1918; attached to the 33rd Division.
Participated in battles of Hamel; Chipilly Ridge; Gressaire Woods.
Killed in action August 9, 1918. (Place unknown).
GARRISON, CHARLES E. ---Private
Son of Isaac and Margaret Garrison;
born August 18, 1897, Greensburg, Decatur County, Ind. Moved to Rush
County in 1901. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 1, 1917, Muncie, Ind.
Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Battery E, 150th Field
Artillery. Transferred to Camp Mills, L.L Embarked for over seas
October 18, 1917, attached to 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Killed in action
November 8, 1918, in the Meuse Argonne drive. (Burial place unknown.)
GARTIN, WALTER ---2nd Lieutenant
Son of James W. and Minnie Brown
Gartin; born December 22, 1893, Burney, Decatur County, Ind. Family
later moved to Rush County, and settled on a farm. Educated in Purdue
University. Served on Mexican Border in 1916. Entered First Officers
Training Camp, Ft. Harrison, Ind. in May 1917; commissioned Second
Lieutenant. Transferred to Camp Bowie, Tex.; thence to Camp Taylor, Ky.
Assigned to 46th Infantry. Died of pneumonia February 18, 1918, Camp
Taylor, Ky. Buried, Rushville, Ind.
GREEN, OVAL HARLAN --- Private,

on of Joseph and Clarissa Green; born
October 14, 1893, Anderson Township, Rush County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted
in U.S. Marine Corps June 23, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Parris
Island, S. C.; assigned to 51st Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment
Marines. Transferred to Quantico, Va. Overseas in June 1918.
Participated in battle of Belleau Woods. Killed in action July 18,
1918, Soissons. (Burial place unknown.)
HAMILTON, RAYMOND ---Private
Son of August and Edith Hamilton
(McKee); born January 7, 1900, Rushville, Ind. Enlisted in Company B,
4th Infantry. Indiana National Guard April 18, 1917, Rushville, Ind.
Transferred to Battery B, 1st Field Artillery (Battery B, 150th Field
Artillery). Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; thence to Mineola, L.
L Embarked for overseas October 18, 1917; attached to 42nd (Rainbow)
Division. Died of pneumonia December 8, 1917. Buried in Camp Cemetery,
Camp Coct-quidan, Morbihan, France.
INNIS, MARSHALL NEY--- Private
Son of Wade H. and Georgia A. Innis;
born March 2, 1896, Milroy, Rush County, Ind. Brick-mason. Entered
service September 20, 1917, Rushville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.
Overseas in May 1918; assigned to Headquarters Company, 130th Infantry,
33rd Division. Died from wounds October 29, 1918, Evacuation Hospital,
No. 7, near Metz, France. Buried in American Cemetery, Grave No. 102,
Sec. S, Plot 3, Souilly Meuse, France. Cited (posthumously) for bravery
under fire.
JACKSON, WILLIAM CARL ---Private
Son of Lorenzo L. and Flora Jackson;
born April 27, 1897, Ripley County, Ind. Moved to Rush County in 1899.
Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 24, 1916, Columbus
Barracks, Ohio. Transferred to Ft. Totten, N.Y.; assigned to 1st
Company, Coast Artillery Corps. Transferred to Ft. Hamilton, N.Y.
Overseas in August 1917; assigned to 8th Battalion, Howitzer Regiment,
30th Coast Artillery. Killed in action June 28, 1918. (Place unknown.)
KENNEDY, ROSS V. ---Private
Son of Charles H. (deceased) and
Katherine V. Kennedy; born July 11, 1893, Carthage, Rush County, Ind.
Telegraph operator. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 29, 1917,
Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Transferred to Ft.
Leavenworth, Kan.; thence to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga.; assigned to Company
B, 7th Field Signal Battalion. Transferred to Ft. Bliss, Tex., where he
died of pneumonia, December 29, 1918. Buried, Carthage, Rush County,
Ind.
KESSLER, FREDERICK ---Private
Son of Frederick and Elizabeth
Hertzel Kessler; born October 27, 1894, near Manilla, Rush County, Ind.
Farmer. Entered service June 14, 1918, Rushville, Ind. Sent to
Indianapolis, Ind.; thence to Camp Hancock, Ga. Assigned to 2nd
Company, 6th Post Ordnance Depot Battalion. Transferred to Camp
Merritt, N.J. Sailed overseas August 31, 1918. Died of pneumonia,
October 12, 1918. Buried in Catholic Cemetery No. 31, American Plot,
Mehun-sur-Yevre.
KIRKPATRICK, LEWIS MERRILL

Son of John E. and Flora M.
Kirkpatrick; born November 23, 1896, Rushville, Ind. Educated in Purdue
University. Farmer. Entered service August 31, 1918; assigned to
Automobile Mechanic School, Purdue University. Transferred to Motor
Transport Corps. Sent to Ft. Sheridan, Ill.; thence to Ft. Wingate, N.
M. Assigned to Motor Transport Corps, 578th Company. Died of
pericarditis April 13, 1919, Ft. Wingate, N.M. Buried in East Hill
Cemetery, Rushville, Ind.
PATTISON, CYRUS E. ---Corporal
Son of Cashion and Sallie Pattison;
born January 13, 1891, near Manilla, Rush County, Ind. Entered service
early in 1917. (Exact date not known.) Sent to Camp Upton, N.Y.;
assigned to Company H, 306th Infantry. Overseas in February 1918;
attached to 77th Division. Killed in action, October 2, 1918, Argonne
Forest. Buried in Argonne American Cemetery, 1232, Grave No. 104, Sec.
105, Plot 2, Romagne-sous-Mont-faucon, France.
POSEY, GEORGE LEWIS ---Private
Son of James K. and Luella Gowdy
Posey; born August 18, 1889, near Rushville, Ind. Farmer. Entered
service July 21, 1918, Kentland, Newton County, Ind. Sent to Camp
Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 26th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 159th
Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 6, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky.
Buried in Arlington Cemetery, Posey Township, Rush County, Ind.
Survived by widow, Alta Cowger Posey, Rushville, Ind. The American
Legion Post, Arlington, Ind., named in his honor.
RARDIN, RAYMOND B. ---Private
Son of Frank M. and Minnie E. Rardin;
born October 24, 1896, Milroy, Rush County, Ind. Mechanic. Enlisted in
Engineers Corps August 1, 1917. Discharged because of physical defects.
Re-enlisted January 10, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas,
Ky. Transferred to Taliaferro Field, Fla.; assigned to 274th Company,
Aviation Signal Corps, Squadron A. Transferred to Carruthers Field,
Tex., where he was killed accidentally, October 11, 1918. Buried
Milroy, Ind.
SHANAHAN, JAMES JOSEPH ---Private
Son of James and Mary Welsh Shanahan;
born January 19, 1895, Rushville, Ind. Educated in Notre Dame
University. Farmer. Attended Officers Training Camp, Ft. Harrison, Ind.
summer of 1917. Withdrew, and enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, December
10, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to
Company H, 4th Infantry. Embarked for overseas April 6, 1918; assigned
to Balloon Observation Battalion. Participated in second battle of
Marne. Died October 16, 1918, from wounds received in action. Buried in
American Cemetery, Fromerville, France, Grave No. 142.
