Son of T. J. and Sallie Arbuckle;
born November 7, 1890, Scottsburg, Scott County, Ind. Thresherman.
Entered service September 21, 1917, Scottsburg, Ind. Sent to Camp
Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company K, 335th Infantry. Embarked May 19,
1918; assigned to Company A, 113th Machine Gun Battalion. Died of
disease November 10, 1918, in Hospital 41, Salions, France. Buried in
cemetery near Hospital. Survived by widow, Maude Arbuckle, and two
children Lynn, and Kenneth, Scottsburg, Ind.
AUSTIN, FLOYD EDWARD ---Private
Son of Edward and Martha E. Austin;
born April 13, 1896, Blocher, Scott County, Ind. Farmer. Entered
service April 17, 1918, Scottsburg, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.;
assigned to Company E, 339th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Custer,
Mich. Embarked from Hoboken, N. J. about September 14, 1918. Landed at
Liverpool, England; assigned to Company E, 339th Infantry. Embarked for
Archangel, Russia about October 1st. Killed in action December 30,
1918, Kadish, Russia. Buried at Scottsburg, Ind.
BUZZARD, ELDO ---Private
Son of Asbury and Ida Buzzard; born
April 6, 1894, Austin, Scott County, Ind. Canning factory employee.
Entered service March 29, 1918, Scottsburg, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor,
Ky. Embarked May 8, 1918; assigned to Company H, 47th Infantry, 4th
Division. Died from wounds August 9, 1918, received in action on the
Vesle River, east of Chateau-Thierry, near St. Thieubalt. Buried near
Chateau-Thierry. Body to be returned to U.S. for final burial.
DAILEY, HOWARD JACKSON ---Corporal
Son of Albinus and Amanda Dailey;
born June 10, 1894, Scottsburg, Scott County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in
U.S. Regular Army August 5, 1916, Chicago, Ill. Sent to Jefferson
Barracks, Mo.; assigned to Company M, 16th Infantry. Transferred to
Eagle Pass, Tex,; then to Syracuse, N. Y. Sailed overseas sometime in
November, 1917; assigned to Company C, 30th Infantry. Killed in action
at Soissons, France, July 20, 1918. Buried near Paris-Soissons Road.
FITCH, ALONZO E. --- Private
Son of Alonzo and Lucy Ann Fitch;
born February 20, 1895, Lexington, Scott County, Ind. Farmer. Entered
service in October, 1917, Scottsburg, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.;
assigned to Company K, 335th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Sevier, S.
C. Went overseas May 12, 1918; assigned to Company I, 119th Infantry,
30th Division. Killed in action October 10, 1918. (Place of death and
burial unknown.)
McKnight, Harvey E. --- Private,
S.a.t.c.
Son of Morris E. and Amanda McKnight;
born July 31, 1886, Memphis, Clark County, Ind. Moved to Scott County
in 1889. Farmer. Entered service October 15, 1918, Scottsburg, Ind.
Sent to Camp Winona, Winona Lake, Ind.; assigned to Automobile Training
School. Died October 30, 1918, Camp Winona, Warsaw, Ind. Buried in
Scottsburg Cemetery, Scottsburg, Ind.
MEADORS, ORVIL ROSCOE ---Private
Son of John M. and Sadie Meadors;
born March 13, 1896, Leota, Scott County, Ind. Laborer. Entered service
March 30, 1918, Scottsburg, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Assigned to
15th Company, 4th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. While at
home on furlough June 15, 1918; became ill and was taken to St. Anthony
Hospital, Louisville, Ky., where an operation was performed to save his
life. Died from the effects of operation August 23, 1918, at home of
parents. Buried, Scottsburg, Ind.
