Starke County
This
county is bounded on the northwest by the Kankakee river, and partakes
largely of the character of the lands lying along that river.
There are numerous swamps in the county hardly susceptible of
cultivation, and there are some
low lands that are
suitable only for grazing. Other portions of the surface are well
adapted to agriculture, the
soil being suited
to the production of corn and wheat. The county is young, but thriving
in its indust- ries. Knox is
the county seat,
and, although a small town, is growing rapidly. The northern and
southern portions of the county
have good
railroad facilities.
