ANDERSON, HENRY DEWEY Corporal
Son of Calvin and Susan L. Anderson; born May 30, 1898, Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Ind. Employee of Morgan and Wright Tire Company, Detroit, Mich. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps, Detroit, (exact date not known.) Trained at Parris Island, S. C., Quantico, Va., and in Cuba. Sailed September 13, 1918; assigned to 1st Battalion, 13th Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps. Died on board ship Von Sleuben, September 23, 1918, of influenza. Buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Ind.

BAIR, LEO LOWELL Private
Son of Alvaro and Mary L. Bair; born October 5, 1899, Putnam County, Ohio. Moved with parents to a farm near Angola, Steuben County, Ind. in 1909. Teacher. Entered the Student Army Training Corps at Tri-State College, Angola, Ind., October 1, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 24, 1918, Tri-State College. Buried in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Ind.

BEIGH, EDWARD Private
Son of Edwin and Hannah Beigh; born December 26, 1889, near Helmer, Steuben County, Ind. Employee of Overland Automobile Company, Toledo, Ohio. Entered service September 15, 1917. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Motor Transport Corps, 83rd Division. Overseas in January, 1918. Returned to U.S. July 5, 1919, sick with diphtheria. Died July 21, 1919, Embarkation Hospital No. 4, New York City. Buried in Block Cemetery, Salem Township, Steuben County, Ind.

BUSHARD, CARL A. Private
Son of Rebecca Bushard (Nettleman); born March 27, 1894, Orland, Steuben County, Ind. Enlisted in Company B, 3rd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, Angola, August 2, 1917. Became ill with appendicitis while in camp at Angola; removed to hospital in Fort Wayne, and died August 11, 1917. Buried at Orland, Steuben County, Ind.

CASSELL, LEE 1st Lieutenant
Son of Jacob and Ida Cassell; born November 18, 1889, Fremont, Steuben County, Ind. Graduated from Chicago University Medical School in 1914. Practicing medicine in Sweet Grass, Mont., when he entered service October 12, 1917. Assigned to 130th Field Ambulance, 10th Battalion. Overseas in May, 1918. While attending the wounded at first aid station, Englefontaine, France, a shell dropped near by, killing him instantly, November 4, 1918. The American Legion Post, Fremont, Ind., named in his honor.

CLARK, GARL FREDERICK Private, S.A.T.C.
Son of Elmer Ellsworth and Myrtle Gay Clark; born December 30, 1898, Hudson, Steuben County, Ind. Clerk, Farmers Co-operative Association, Ashley, Ind. Entered Student Army Training Corps, Tri-State College, Angola, Ind., October 2, 1918. Stricken with influenza, he died October 30, 1918. Buried in Circle Hill Cemetery, Hudson, Steuben County, Ind.

CROSS, DAVID OGDEN Private
Son of Origen A. and Luella Parrott Cross (deceased); born August 26, 1894, Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Ind. Employee of New York Central Railroad, Chicago, Ill. Entered service August 30, 1918, Angola, Ind. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa; assigned to 18th Company, 5th Training Battalion, 163rd Depot Brigade. Transferred to Headquarters Troops, 19th Division. Died of influenza October 19, 1918, Camp Dodge, Iowa. Buried at Pleasant Lake, Ind.

FRIDAY, GALE Lieutenant
Son Aaron Wellington and Melissa Friday (deceased); born March 1, 1896, Fremont, Steuben County, Ind. Graduated from Indiana Dental College in 1917. Practicing dentistry in Orland, Steuben County, when called into service in September, 1918. Sent to Camp Sheridan, Ala; attached to 27th Machine Gun Battalion. Died of pneumonia November 14, 1918, Camp Sheridan, Ala. Buried in Fremont Cemetery, Fremont, Ind.

GURNEY, HARRY S. Private
Son of Charles H. and Fannie E. Gurney; born August 13, 1889, Camden, Mich. Moved to Steuben County, Ind. in 1910, and settled on a farm in Clear Lake Township. Called into service in June, 1918. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company M, 333rd Infantry. Transferred to Camp Mills, L. L, and then overseas; assigned to the Eighty-Fourth Division. Died of pneumonia October 18, 1918. (Place unknown.)

HACKETT, FRANKLIN GRAY Private
Son of Frank M. and Clara Eno Hackett; born February 8 1893, Millgrove Township, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Company B, 3rd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, July 28, 1917, Angola. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Company B, 137th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia December 3, 1917, Base Hospital, Camp Shelby, Miss. Buried in East Gilead Cemetery, Branch County, Mich.

HARDY, EARL CLIFTON Private
Son of William E. and Elma Hardy; born September 22, 1892, in Scott Township, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 29, 1918, Coldwater, Mich. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich.; assigned to Company H, 77th Infantry. Died of pneumonia October 3, 1918, in Base Hospital, Camp Custer, Mich. Buried in Power's Cemetery, York Township, Steuben County, Ind.

HAWKINS, MERRITT MARSELL Private
Son of Elihu and Almeda Hawkins; born November 28, 1893, Vickery, Ohio. Moved with parents to Jamestown, Steuben County, Ind. in 1900. At the time of his induction into service, December 11, 1917, he was living in Aberdeen, S. D. Sent to Sacramento, Cal.: assigned to Signal Corps unit. Died of disease September 21, 1918, Sacramento, Ca1. Buried at Jamestown, Steuben County, Ind.

KECKLER, FLOYD CLAY Private
Son of James D. and Nellie Ruple Keckler (deceased); born March 8, 1897, Weaver Station, Ohio. When three years old moved with his parents to Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 27, 1918, Angola, Ind. Sent to Vocational Training School, Indianapolis, Ind. Transferred to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 18th Training Battalion, Field Artillery Replacement Depot. Died of influenza October 14, 1918, Camp Taylor. Buried at Flint, near Angola, Ind.

KING, GEORGE HENRY Private
Son of Edward S. and Sarah L. King; born May 21, 1895, Jamestown Township, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service in Gothenburg, Neb. (Date not known.) Sent to Camp Cody, N. M. for training. Assigned to Company L, 134th Infantry. Contracted pneumonia and died December 24, 1917, in Base Hospital, Camp Cody. Buried in Jamestown. Cemetery, Steuben County, Ind.

LYONS, CHARLES E. Sergeant
Son of Obene V. and Anna Lyons; born May 5, 1898, Orland, Steuben County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 1, 1917; sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Transferred to Brownsville, Tex.; assigned to Company I, 4th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Green, N. C. Overseas in May, 1918; assigned to Company I, 59th Infantry, 4th Division. Killed in action October 6, 1918, near Verdun, France. Buried in American Military Cemetery, Le Grand Pont, France.

MASTEN, FRANK C. Private
Son of David and Emma Masten; born July 16, 1898, Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Served with Company B, 3rd Infantry, Indiana National Guard on the Mexican Border in 1916. Re-enlisted in June, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to 137th Field Artillery. Overseas in October, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 24, 1918, Nell Lane Hospital, Manchester, England. Body returned to U.S., and buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Ind.

NEUTZ, PAUL GEORGE Private, S.A.T.C.
Son of George and Ida Neutz; born March 16, 1899, near Nevada Mills, Steuben County, Ind. Salesman. Enlisted in Student Army Training Corps, Tri-State College, Angola, Ind., in September, 1918. Stricken with influenza, he died October 21,1918, Angola, Ind. Buried in Jamestown Cemetery, Steuben County, Ind.

PARRISH, GEORGE L. D. Private
Son of George C. and Katherine Nolan Parrish; born April 26, 1894, Angola, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, July 11, 1917, Fort Wayne, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; then to Camp Greene, S. C. Assigned to Medical Corps. Overseas in May, 1918; assigned to 28th Ambulance Company, 4th Division. While giving first aid to his bunk mate on the field in the Argonne Forest, he was killed by a bomb dropped from a German airplane, October 15, 1918.

PORTER, LEO ROSS Private
Son of John and Josephine Porter; born February 26, 1889, Metz, Steuben County, Ind. Newspaper cartoonist, Lansing, (Mich.) State Journal. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army in April, 1917, Lansing, Mich. Sent to Camp McArthur, Tex.; assigned to Reconnaissance Section, map-drawing. Overseas in February, 1918; assigned to 119th Field Artillery. Wounded in action August 12, 1918, and died two days later. (Place unknown.)

RANSOM, GLENN DEWEY, M.D. Captain, M.C.
Son of Amasa D. and Ella A. Ransom; born October 13, 1884, Quincy, Mich. Graduated from University of Michigan Medical School, 1913. Moved to Hamilton, Ind. same year, and opened medical practice. Enlisted August 10, 1917; overseas two weeks later. Attached to 5th Cameron Highlanders Regiment. Killed in action September 26, 1918, Poperinghe, West Flanders. Awarded British Military Cross for bravery. Buried, Haringhe, Belgium. Survived by widow, Lou H. Ransom, and two children, Dale Nelson, and Elwyn Glenn Ransom, Ann Arbor, Mich.

REX, ERNEST PAUL Private
Son of William and Caroline Rex; born April 13, 1896, Kinderhook, Mich. Living on a farm in Steuben County, Ind. when he was called into service July 22, 1918, Coldwater, Mich. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich.; assigned to 26th Company, 7th Training Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Battery E, 41st Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia October 9, 1918, Camp Custer, Mich. (Burial place unknown.)

SHIPE, RAYMOND CLARENCE Private
Son of Isaiah and Anna Locke Shipe (both deceased); born July 13, 1895, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 16, 1917, Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Sent to Ft. Sill, Okla.; assigned to 327th Automatic Replacement Draft. Died of measles-pneumonia December 16, 1917, Camp Hospital, Ft. Sill, Okla. Buried in Jamestown Cemetery, near Fremont, Steuben County, Ind.

TEEGARDEN, HOMER WALTER Private
Son of Silas and Temperance Teegarden; born June 28, 1895, Columbus Grove, Ohio. Moved with parents to Steuben County, Ind. in 1901. Called into service July 23, 1918, Angola, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 12th Company, 3rd Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Battery B, 4th Training Battalion. Died of influenza October 16, 1918, Base Hospital, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried in Jamestown Cemetery, Steuben County, Ind.

THROOP, CARL HIRAM Fireman
Son of Warren H. and Rilla Throop; born January 27, 1900, Clear Lake Township, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Entered U.S. Navy July 26, 1918, Fort Wayne, Ind. Sent to Camp Perry, Great Lakes Training Station, Chicago, Ill. Assigned to duty as Fireman. Died of pneumonia September 26, 1918, Base Hospital, Camp Perry. Buried in Teeter's Cemetery, Clear Lake Township, Steuben County, Ind.

THROOP , CLAIR F. Private
Son of Frank M. and Florence L Throop; born July 30, 1893, Clear Lake Township, Steuben County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 30, 1918, Angola, Ind. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa; assigned to 18th Company, 5th Training Battalion, 163rd Depot Brigade. Transferred to Medical Detachment, Base Hospital. Died of pneumonia October 16, 1918, Camp Dodge, Iowa. Buried in Teeter's Cemetery, Clear Lake Township, Steuben County, Ind.

TIFFANY, PYRL LAMONT Private
Son of Frank L. and Pearl May Tiffany; born May 19, 1897, North Adams, Mich. Moved with parents to Angola, Ind. in 1903. Attending Howe Military Academy, Howe, Ind., when he entered service May 15, 1918. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Camp Grant, Ill.; assigned to Officers' Training School. Died of pneumonia October 7, 1918. Buried in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Ind. Survived by widow, Arlene Arnold Tiffany, Angola, Ind.

WHEATON, WESLEY ORRIN Private
Son of Albert and Hattie Wheaton; born February 17, 1896, Scott Township, Steuben County, Ind. Served on the Mexican Border with Company B, Indiana National Guard in 1916. Re-enlisted following the declaration of war, and was sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Battery B, 137th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia December 24, 1917, Camp Shelby, Miss. Buried in South Scott Cemetery, Angola, Ind.

WILSON, DAVID ALDRICH Private
Son of James and Mary Wilson; born December 18, 1887, Richland Township, Steuben County, Ind. Entered service July 23, 1918, Angola, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Battery B, 2nd Regiment, Field Artillery. Stricken with influenza, he was ordered home and died December 23, 1918 from disease contracted while in service. Buried near his home in Richland Township, Steuben County.
