Memories of South Bend
Years ago, growing up in South Bend, my father
worked at the Studebaker plant for many many years. I can remember the
yearly family picnics and the Christmas parties as a little girl. There
was always something for us to look forward to as each event came
close. I can also remember when my father led the Studebaker chorus for
many years. The concerts were always a source of enjoyment and pride
for this little girl, since it was "my Daddy" up there teaching
everyone how to do it! It was hard for daddy to take when he had
to retire from the plant, but we talked over the years about the times
we had while he worked there. Oh, by the way, he attached the doors on
the drivers side, and we owned Studebakers until they quit making them.
The very first car that I owned when I
grew up and moved to North Carolina before moving back to Indiana was a
Studebaker Daytona, that I paid 100.00 for back in the '60's!!!
Just a bit of remembering that someone else might enjoy too!
My father's name was Harry C. Hardt.
