Very Dear Brother
It really seems longer time than
usual I have written you, or you have written me but I heard from you
several times by private convay anceses that you was well [off?|. We
have been selling a good many Goods since I saw you but at small
profits & I trust have not lost any thing although we have not made
much. My Partner is some where on the Hudson River spending his time
among his Wiles relatives & friends. We have a branch of our
establishment together with Dry Goods some [--] &c at Darlington on
Sugar creek in Montgomery Co about 24 miles from here Jonas Parker this
young man that was with us in the summer & fall is taking care of
the store. We have a well assorted but not a large stock I am in hopes
that we shall make some money. I wish you would send down the Amt due
Jones & [—]bert on [-] Apples first good oppertunity & call on
Spencer & Rice & ask them to [-] an [-] of sales of Figs &
pay the amt to, you that you may send both at the same time. We want to
transmit money to Louisville. Sister Elisabeth wrote me some time since
from Memphis, & has since written Doct & Mrs Deming from
Nashville Tennissee, where she is at the Lunatic assylum. She was well
when she wrote, & in good spirits, & said that she was treated
with attention. I should think from her letter, that she was not
mentally any worse but if any thing, that her mind was getting into a
train which tend to make it better I wrote to a Mr Rembert in Tennissee
some time since, with whom sister was staying when she wrote me to know
particularity of her situation &c but have not as yet reced an
answer from him I suppose that the folks at Memphis [-] a subscription
I&c?] send her to Nashville & probably think that her relatives
in the North do not think much of their Sister. I have not heard any
thing from Sister Jeanette since I saw you I wrote Uncle Doct some time
since a long letter I trust you will be down ere long and make a
Sojourn of several days. Business is look up here since (Hogs?)
commenced comming in. I shall hope to hear from you soon.
From Your ever affect Bro
F.A. Sergeant
