Sent to Fort Houston, Tex.; assigned to Company F, 26th Infantry. Went overseas in June, 1917; attached to the First Division. Fought in battles of Soissons; St. Mihiel; and Argonne. Died October 1, 1918 from wounds received in action. Buried in "Flanders Fields", Belgium.

Stricken with influenza enroute, he was taken to the Red Cross Hospital, Liverpool, England, where he died October 6, 1918. Buried with military honors, Everton Cemetery, Liverpool, England.

Sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill., where he died September 30, 1918. Buried in Second Prairie Creek Cemetery, Vigo County, Ind.

Sent to Vincennes, Ind. for guard duty, and was killed accidentally June 30, 1917, when struck by passenger train. Buried in Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Ind.

Son of Mack and Martha McCalister; born July 15, 1888, Marshall, Ill. Moved to Terre Haute, Ind. (Exact date not known), where he was employed as a blacksmith, when he enlisted in U.S. Navy April 2, 1910. Assigned to duty as Machinist. In continuous service until date of his death, which was caused from pneumonia March 17, 1918, while stationed on the Aeolus.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGee; born June 24, 1887, Torre Haute, Ind. Plumber. Enlisted in U.S. Navy September 22, 1913, Indianapolis, Ind. Served a four year enlistment. Re-enlisted January 21, 1918; assigned to duty on the Stockton. Transferred to Norfolk, Va. Contracted pneumonia, and died December 14, 1918 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Washington, D. C. Buried in Arlington Cemetery, Washington, D. C.

Died June 30, 1918, Base Hospital No. 20, from wounds received in action, at battle of Soissons. Buried, Soissons, France.

Son of Robert and Anne Houston Sibbald; born January 11, 1889, Fifeshire, Scotland. Came to U.S. in 1910, and was working in Terre Haute, Ind., where he entered service June 26, 1918. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 7th Company, 2nd Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Company L, 336th Infantry. Embarked for overseas September 9, 1918: assigned to Machine Gun Company, 360th Infantry. Killed in action November 1, 1918. Buried, Commune of Bentheville, Meuse, France.

SMITH, JAMES TROY ...Corporal
Son of James and Anna Smith (Long); born January 18, 1895, Ashboro, Clay County, Ind. Moved to Terre Haute in 1902. Miner. Entered service September 21, 1917, Terre Haute. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; transferred to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to duty as truck driver, Ammunition Train. Again transferred to Nova Scotia, Canada. Died of pneumonia September 29, 1918, Nova Scotia. Buried in Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Ind.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Soltis; born November 20, 1889, Carbon, Clay County, Ind. Coal miner. Called into service May 24, 1918, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 45th Company, 12th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Company F, 154th Infantry. Overseas in August, 1918; assigned to Company D, 125th Infantry, 32nd Division. Killed in action October 10, 1918, battle of Montfaucon. (Burial place unknown.)

STAGGS, FRED E. ...Corporal
Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Staggs; born February 10, 1901, Lonoke County, Ark. When in infancy moved with parents to Terre Haute, Ind. Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 11, 1917, and was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Assigned to Company B, 18th Infantry. Went overseas early in June, 1917. Killed in action, October 11, 1918, near Hill No. 240, Argonne Forest. Buried in Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France.

STEIN, LOUIS ...Private
Son of Louis and Catherine Stein; born September 8, 1885, Terre Haute, Ind. Entered service late in the year 1917, (exact date not known) while working at Fort Myers, Va. Assigned to Medical Detachment, and was sent to the Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D. C., where he died, December 16, 1918. Buried in Terre Haute, Ind. Survived by widow, Carrie Stein, and two children, Mabel and George Stein, Washington, D. C.

STEPP, GUY ALLEN ...Corporal
Son of Edward and Margaret Stepp; born September 9, 1892, Terre Haute, Ind. Chemist, Terre Haute Water Works. Entered service June 5, 1918, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Training School. Transferred to Camp Hancock, Ga.; assigned to 2nd Company, 5th Pro- Provisional Ordnance Development Battalion. Went overseas in September, 1918. Died February 12, 1919, from wounds received by explosion. Buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, France.

Son of Albert C. and Nancy Jane Davis Stewart; born February 12, 1890, near Cloverland, Vigo County, Ind. Miner. Entered service May 24, 1918, Terre Haute. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 45th Company, 12th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Battery D, 325th Field Artillery; then to 3rd Company, 1st Development Battalion. Died of pneumonia October 19, 1918, Camp Taylor. Buried in Reisters Cemetery, Vigo County, Ind.

Son of Jesse Robert and Frances Wells; born January 23, 1888, Terre Haute, Inc1. Construction foreman. Entered service May 17, 1918, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Camp Humphreys, Va.; assigned to Company A, 4th Engineers. Stricken with pneumonia, he died October 2, 1918, Camp Humphreys. Buried in Hull Cemetery, south of Terre Haute, Ind. Survived by widow, Elsie Albee Wells (Hartley), Gebo, Wyo.

Son of James and Barbara Grinnell Yeager; born January 24, 1895, Terre Haute, Ind. Railroad employee. Entered service March 28, 1918, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Gordon, Ga. Embarked for overseas June 15, 1918; assigned to Company L, 116th Infantry, 29th Division. Died October 19, 1918, from wounds received in action. Awarded Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary bravery in action.
