Kobs Martin
Edna Kobs Martin, age 93, of Storm Lake, died Nov. 21, 1999 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake following
a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church with the Reverend
David Swinton officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Fratzke Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Anne Kobs was born April 29, 1906 in Shelby County near Harlan, the daughter of
John and Anne (Lueth) Kobs. She completed high school and normal training in Ladysmith, Wisc. She was a teacher
and taught all eight grades for two years in Wisconsin and four years at a country school south of Walnut.
On Feb. 14, 1931 she married Wayne O. Martin at Walnut. The couple farmed in the Walnut and Shelby areas before
moving to the Albert City-Storm Lake area in 1943. They moved into Storm Lake in 1973. Wayne died Aug. 9, 1987.
Edna was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Storm Lake, where she was active in United Methodist
Women. She was a Sunday School teacher in Rembrandt and a member of the Kiwanis Queens in Storm Lake. She enjoyed
reading and gardening and always took every opportunity to use her teaching skills.
She is survived by her children: Marion and Norene Martin, Albert City; Dale and Joan Martin, Storm Lake; Joan
and Gilbert Phillips, Manning; Joyce Hoskins, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Elaine and Gerald Carlson, Storm Lake.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alma Hoover, Council Bluffs; a brother,
Carl Kobs, Lynnwood, Wa.; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Denise Martin; two brothers, Herman and
Walter; and by four sisters, Meta Hines, Clara Hoff, Ella Moore and Amanda Cupp. [Submitted
