| Early county settlers came from Eastern and Southern states. Immigrants were
of German, Norwegian and Irish descent. Between the 1870s - 1880s, many Czech immigrants settled in Washington
and Utica Townships. |

County Information
Chickasaw County was originally attached to Fayette County
It was established on 30 Jun 1853 and was named for the southern Indian Nation whose chief was Bradford.
New Hampton became the county seat in 1857.
