Ex-Governor Ralph P. Lowe

Ex. Gov. Ralph P. Lowe, of Iowa, who died in Washington, Saturday, aged 78, was born in Ohio, graduated at Oxford, Ohio; studied law and was admitted to the bar; practiced a short time in Alabama; removed to Iowa in 1838; delegate to the constitutional convention in 1844; soon after district attorney; judge, first district in 1853; governor in 1860; supreme judge for two terms; then assistant U. S. district attorney, and afterwards attorney for Iowa in claims against the general government growing out of swamps land grants.

His health has been failing for some time.

Like Gen. Dodge, who died so recently, Gov. Lowe was one of the leaders in the Iowa of a third of a century ago. He possessed good abilities, great energy and fine character.
