Allen Cemetery - Rockford Township |
The 1885 Pottawattamie County Atlas does not show the cemetery, but by the burial dates for Joseph and Eliza Allen's children--1858, 1865 and 1868 it was in existance, probably as a private cemetery. The land around the cemetery, in 1885, was owned by Joseph Allen, E. Allen, Agnes Allen and Jas. Allen.
From Highway 183, east of Honey Creek, take the gravel road north to a "T" intersection. Turn left for about half a mile. The cemetery sits back from the road on the right side. As the drawing shows, a gate has to be opened to drive into the cemetery, which is on the side hill. |
