In the 1885 Illustrated Atlas of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the land around this cemetery was owned by Jno. Evans, Jane Evans, Jos. Evans and Sarah Evans.

The earliest burial is Evan Evans in 1864. While collecting obituaries, reference was made to the cemetery being located on the Joseph Evans farm. It has also been referred to as Blackwood Cemetery.
