Newtown Cemetery - Knox Township |
Newtown Cemetery is one mile south of Avoca and was the cemetery for the town of Newtown. One acre for a cemetery was purchased from the farm of Henry Peterson in about 1864, at this time there were already several graves there. The first burial was Carrie Randall, on October 24, 1884. She died from cholera. The last burial was in 1951. The cemetery is fenced, but a few graves are on the outside of the fence. It is said they are the graves of horse thieves, so not many people were concerned. |
