Was a native of Vermont, born February 3, 1806 and as a young man, he established his home in Andrew, Iowa, and owned and operated a stage line between Davenport, Dubuque and Iowa City.
James Wilson Woodruff
Was born April 25, 1844 in Bridgetown, New Jersey. He was a stage driver between Des Moines and Denver, a veterinary surgeon, and painter & paper hanger. His wife Mary died February 2, 1912, just a month before James died. In a newspaper article dated February 5, 1874, it states "We have not noticed in any of our issues the marriage of Miss Mary Hays of Belknap to Mr. James Woodruff formerly of your city, and a noted stage driver of forty years experience on the old State Road from Des Moines to Council Bluffs. Long may they wave."
