Vera Mae Horton, 67, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Davenport Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be at the mausoleum from 12:30 p.m. until service time Monday. Runge Mortuary is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the family.
Vera was born May 28, 1939, in Centralia, Ill., to Joseph Oscar and Lydian (Jordan) Bryant.
She married Charles F. Horton on August 31, 1953, in Missouri. He passed away March 28, 2004.
Through the years in Davenport, Vera was employed at Crescent Laundry, Kreske's, Spudnut Donut Shop, and was a nurse's aide in private homes.
She enjoyed playing "set and run" and "skippo" card games, BINGO, and fishing for blue gills with her husband of fifty years.
Vera loved her family dearly and treasured her grandchildren. She also valued her many friendships.
Those left to honor her memory include children, Linda S. (Mike) Richer of North Augusta, S.C., Charles F. (Kathy) Horton Jr., of Junction City, Ill., Michael R. Horton, of North Augusta, Brian A. Horton and Tammy A. (Monty) Pike, both of Rock Island, and James L. (Valerie) Coday, of Davenport; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam ( Hazel) Bryant, of Junction City, Jerry (Shirley) Bryant, of Gatesville, Texas, Danny (Wanda) Bryant, of Centralia, Ill., and Joe Bryant, of Redding, Calif.; and sisters, Jody Acree, of Redding, Calif., and Dorothy Williams, of Junction City. 03/31/2004 SANDOVAL, Ill. -- Charles F. Horton, of Sandoval, Ill., died 2:30 p.m. March 28, 2004, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitiation is 5-8 p.m. today at Irvin Funeral Home, Centralia, Ill.
He was born June 10, 1931, in Fayette County, Ill., to Earl and Louise M. (Kirgan) Horton.
He married Vera Bryant on Aug. 31, 1953, in Charleston, Mo. She survives. He was a molder for 32 years at Sivyer Steel in Bettendorf.
He lived the past 10 years in Sandoval and before that in Bettendorf. He was a Presbyterian.
His hobbies were fishing, having a cold one, visiting with family and friends and watching Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right.
Memorials may go to his wife. Survivors include his mother, Louise, of Centralia; spouse, Vera; four sons, Charles Horton Jr., of Junction City, Ill., Michael Horton, of Centralia, Brian Horton, of Sandoval, and Jim Coday, and wife, Valerie, of Davenport; two daughters, Linda Richer, of South Carolina, and Tammy Pike, and husband, Monty, of Rock Island; two brothers, Walter Horton, of Centralia, and Robert Horton, of Ohio; sisters, Joann Horton, of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Madine Eichhorn, of Davenport; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Hartzell, Alice – wife of the Rev. Jonas Hartzell of Davenport, Iowa – died there May 31, 1877 aged 75 years.
She had resided in Davenport since 1854 where her husband was pastor of the Christian Church.

Haupt, Capt. Henry, a longtime citizen of Davenport, Iowa, died today at the Mississippi House aged 57 years.
He was born 22 June 1820 in Wendeshiem on the Rhine and came to this country in 1837.
He spent 13 years in St. Louis and many relatives reside there but he came to Davenport in 1850.
For the past 20 years he has been the proprietor of the Mississippi House.

Holden, James was killed by Michael Clancey, a steamboat roustabout in Davenport, Iowa saloon on November 19, 1868.

The Death of Theodore HOLM will excite little surprise. The unfortunate man was found early last Thursday morning
by one of the night police at Keokuk Northern Line Dock. The night was one of the coldest of the winter.
Holm's hands and feet were frozen horribly. he was taken to the police station.
The patient was attended by Dr. Emeis and afterwards taken to Mercy Hospital were he dead Saturday night at 9 o'clock.
