Betty Youngs
07/12/2001 DAVENPORT -- Services for Betty L. Youngs, Davenport, will be 6:30
p.m. Friday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport.
Visitation is 5:30 p.m. Friday until service time. Burial will be in Davenport
Memorial Park. Mrs. Youngs died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Bettendorf Health
Care Center.
Betty Lou Sohlberg was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Moline, to Loyd and Sophia
(Edelman) Sohlberg. She married Marvin A. "Bud" Youngs on March 26, 1960, in
Davenport.
He died in December 1992. Mrs. Youngs was a graduate of Moline High School and
in earlier years worked as a bookkeeper at the former V.J. Neu automobile
dealership.
For many years thereafter, she was self-employed as a seamstress and did custom
work and alterations at The Gentry Shop, Von Maur and Younkers, as well as many
other area specialty shops.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was an active PTA member,
serving as president at elementary and junior high school levels from 1972 to
1985.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Foundation or American Cancer
Society. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie (Mrs. Kenneth) Ralfs, Bettendorf;
a son, Kurtis Youngs, Davenport;
eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Sohlberg,
Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sons,
Douglas and Michael.
