First WAC Unit

Des Moines - The first unit of WACS to be recruited in Iowa during the drive which began last month and closed Dec. 7, were sworn in at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the governorís office at the statehouse.

Major Floyd R. Miller, in charge of the Army recruiting in Iowa, administered the oath and Gov. B. B. Hickenlooper presented the unit with a state flag.

The women will be sent to Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., for training.

There are 38 women in the unit.
