SIGG, NELLIE Nellie M. Sigg of 511 S. Colburn died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City at the age of 82. She was born June 3, 1915, on a farm between Moran and LaHarpe, the daughter of Milton B. and Nellie M. Miller Allen. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church
and Altar Society. On May 8, 1933, she married Victor H. Sigg. They made their home on a She is survived by eight sons, Don, John, Vic, Herb, Dan, Jerry, and Steve, Iola, and Ron of Bentonville, Arkansas; four daughters, Elsie Galemore and Mary Fudge of Iola, Helen McNabb of Waco, Texas, and Pat Griffith of Salina; three sisters, Leona Kennedy of St. Paul, Agnes Allen of Pittsburgh and Mary Jo Hartwell of Parsons; 47 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Paul and David, and four brothers, Merle, Leo, Ed and Milton Allen, died earlier. Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. Leon Kristine will officiate. Burial will be at St.Joseph Cemetery in Humboldt. Rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at St. John'S.

1998 - Submitted by Nancy Willis) Obituary Perinea Elizabeth Willis, daughter of Martha Ellen and John William Willis, was born in Haycock County, Illinois, April 4, 1876, and passed away at Mercy hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas, May 31, 1942, age 66 years, 1 month and 27 days. She came to Kansas with her parents at the age of ten years, and settled near Mildred, where she grew to womanhood. In 1889 she was united in marriage to William Jackson Myers and to this union were born thirteen children, all of whom survive except two sons who died in infancy. Mrs. Myers was a member of the Christian church in Moran. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. No sacrifice was too great for her to make for those she loved. There remain to mourn her loss: Claude, Alameda, Calif.; Frank, Odin, Ill.; Leo, Independence, Mo; Roy, Elsmore, Kas; Ana Schooley, Gasconade, Mo.; Elf Justus, Chickasha, Okla.; Lola Crum, Cape Girardeau, Mo., Ruth Morrison, Moran, Kas.; Pvt. Everett L., Ft. Bliss, Tex; Beulah and Arthur, of the home. There are twenty-four grandchildren, one sister, Deva McCoy of Bayard, and many other relatives and friends. Myers was born Feb. 20, 1906, near Moran to William J and Perinea Willis Myers. On July 5, 1927, he married Dutch Fowler at Iola. They started the Cherry Blossom Cafe in Moran. In 1939 they moved from Moran to Elsmore where he operated a bulk tank wagon for Standard and Derby oil companies. They moved to Chant in 1981. Myers was a member of the Elsmore United Methodist

by Nancy Willis) Ruth O. Morrison, 64, of LeRoy died early this morning at the Allen County Hospital. She was born Sept. 3, 1913 in Moran and was married to Harry W. Morrison on Sept. 10, 1933. She had lived in Allen county most of her life and had worked as a clerk for Litwin's and later T.G.& Y. Illness forced her retirement in 1972 and in August 1977 she moved to LeRoy to make her home. Mrs. Morrison was a member of the LaHarpe Methodist Church and was a post worthy matron of the Eastern Star in LaHarpe. Survivors include two sons, Harry Wilbur Morrison of LeRoy and Don R. Morrison , Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Betty Cox of Garden Grove, Calif, Delma Murray of rural LeRoy and Nancy Bartholomew, Erie; three brothers, Everett Myers of Denver and Art Myers and Duke Myers, both of Elsmore; four sisters, Beulah Myers of Moran, Onnie Schooley of Gasconade, Mo., Lola Crum, Indianapolis, Ind., and Elf Justus, Manhattan, and eight grandchildren. She was proceded in death by a son, Darrell Dean Morrison and five brothers. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Waugh Hokum Funeral Home with the Rev. James Ward officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30

Willis, 87, a former resident of Allen County, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kingdon Noe, Tulsa, with whom she has lived for several years. Mrs Willis was born at Moran and spent her early life in that neighborhood. Later she and her family moved to Iola and lived
in the vicinity until about 16 years ago when she went to Tulsa. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Willis is survived
by a sister, Mrs. Paul Hence, Kansas City; a brother James Osborn, Idaho, two grandsons and one great grandchild.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Pent at 10 A m. Friday in the Waugh Funeral Home. Burial will be at
the Fairview Cemetery, Mildred. (The Iola Register, November 14, 1957, Submitted by Nancy Willis) Victor H. Sigg of 511 S. Colburn died yesterday, Oct. 28, at the age of 68. The son of Harry and Tessa(Moser)Sigg, he was born, Aug. 13, 1913 in Moran. He was a lifelong resident of Allen County. From 1945 until his retirement in 1976, he owned and operated the Sigg Brother's Service Station at 601 N. State with his brothers. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 6817 in Iola. On May 8 1933, he was united in marriage to Nellie Mae Allen in Iola. She survives as do nine sons, Donald, John, Victor G., David, Herbert, Daniel, Ronald, Gerald, Steven, all of Iola; four daughters, Mrs. John (Elsie) Galemore of Chant, Mrs. Larry(Mary) Fudge of Iola, Mrs. Alan (Helen) McNabb, of Dewitt, Texas, and Mrs. David (Patricia) Griffith, McPherson; a brother, H.E."Gene"Sigg, a sister, Mrs. Raymond(Elsie) Scott Seminole, Okla., 39 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Allen, preceded him in death. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday
in St. John's Catholic church. The Rev. Francis Wasinger will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery
at Humboldt. Friskel Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Friday in St. John's Church. (The Iola Register, Submitted by Nancy Willis) MORAN MAN IS KILLED IN CRASH W.J.Myers Victim of Two-Car collision North of LaHarpe; 3rd Such Death in Month William J. Myers, an Allen county farm resident most of his life, was killed in a traffic collision three miles north of LaHarpe Saturday morning, the third fatality in the county in the past month. Myers was 73 years of age. He was a native of Hancock county, Ill., but has lived near Moran most of his life and was the father of 11 sons and daughters. Myer's car, a 1929 Ford coupe, was struck at a county road intersection about 10:30 a.m. The other driver was Kenneth Callahan, who lives near Mildred. Myers was headed west from his home, three miles
north and about a mile west of Moran. Callahan, accompanied by Mrs. Callahan and their They said the Myers car was struck exactly in the middle of the right side and was knocked against a concrete bridge railing on the southwest corner of the intersection, jaming it in again on the left side. With both sides dented, the body of the car was pressed into a mass only about a yard wide, they said. Myers was thrown through the top of the coupe and into a ditch suffering a broken neck. He died instantly. Callahan suffered a fracture of the nose and Mrs. Callahan a rib fracture. Their daughter was not hurt. they were in a 1946 five-passenger Ford coupe, the front end of which was damaged. Officers indicated this morning they do not plan to file any charges against Callahan. Myers body was first brought to Iola and later removed to the Ralston Funeral home at Moran, where funeral services for the victim will be held Tuesday. The death was the fourth on Allen county roads
this year. The most recent fatal accidents claimed the lives of Ervin Regelin Jr., rural Iola, and John McCollough,
Katy railroad employee of Parsons. Regelin was killed two miles north of Iola on Oct. 6. McCullough's death occurred
at the south edge of Humboldt Oct. 19. There have been several deaths at county road intersections in recent years,
but Myers's was the first in more than a year. Myers has lived on various farms in the Moran vicinity during his
lifetime and has been at his present address four years. He lived He leaves 29 grandchildren, one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Morgan, Leadville, Colo., Mrs. Effie Wetzler, Pueblo, Colo., two brothers George Myers, Moran, and John Myers Grier, N.M. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moran, with burial in the LaHarpe cemetery. the Rev. Darrel Zwink will conduct the service. (The Iola Register, November 1950, Submitted by Nancy Willis) Arthur A. “Jim” Myers, of Elsmore died Monday, Aug.2, at Moran Manor Nursing Center at the age of eighty three. He was born Dec. 20, 1915, in rural Moran, the son of William Jackson and Perna Elizabeth Myers. He was a veteran of Word War II. He married Margaret Baker on April 6, 1947, at the Chanute First Christian Church. He worked in the oil fields and later drove the Elsmore school bus. He and his wife also did janitorial work at the Elsmore school. He retired in 1981. He was a member of Virginia Lodge No. 315 AF&FM, Moran American Legion, LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars and a charter member of Elsmore Ruritan Club. He was a former member of Scottish Rite at Fort Scott. Survivors include his wife, of the home, two sons, Leslie A., of Garland, Texas, and Wayne A. of Derby; a brother Everett Lee"Mike" of Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Lola Mae Crum of Indianapolis, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Nathan Matt, Stacey and Kristi Myers. Four brothers, Roy D. "Duke", Leo "Pete", Frank and Claude, and four sisters, Effie Justus, Beulah Myers, Ona Marie Schooley and Ruth Morrison, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Elsmore United Methodist Church. The Rev. Connie Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Elsmore Cemetery. Military and Masonic graveside rites will be conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at

home. (The Iola Register, August 3, 1999, Submitted by Nancy Willis) Bertha E. Myers, 84, 10 South Chestnut , died yesterday at the Allen County Hospital. Mrs. Myers was born October 9 1883. She lived most of her life in the Moran community. she was married to George(Jake)Myers February 24, 1904, at Moran. He died in 1953. Shortly after her husband's death, Mrs. Myers moved to iola. Survivors include, one son, Ray Myers, Wichita; Three daughters, Mrs. Viola Bybee, Iola, Mrs. Marguerite Peres, Olathe, and Mrs. Gertrude Crook, Iola; 16 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the
Waugh Funeral Home. The Rev. W.J. Deckinger will officiate. Burial will be in the Moran Cemetery. (The Iola Register,
April 19, 1968 Nancy Willis) Beulah B. Myers, 81, of Moran died sunday, Nov. 8, 1992, at Mercy Hospital in Ft. Scott. The daughter of William Jackson and Perna Elizabeth Willis Myers, she was born Dec. 22, 1910, in rural Allen county near Moran. Miss Myers worked for the Seymour packing Company in Moran from 1927 until 1960 and at the Moran Co-op from 1961 to 1976. She was a member of the Moran Christian Church. Survivors include two sisters, Ona Marie Schooley

Sigg, 39, of 852 North St., died today at Allen county Hospital where he had been a patient the past week. He had been in ill health for five years. Sigg had been employed in the maintenance department at Midland Brake. He was born in Iola on Dec. 8, 1947, the son of Victor H. and Nellie M. Allen Sigg. He attended the Iola schools and was graduated from Iola High School in 1966. From 1968 to 1971, he served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No.1225. Survivors include two son, Aaron and Britt, both of Piqua; his mother, Nellie Sigg, Iola; eight brothers, Donald, John, Victor G., Herbert, Daniel, Ronald, Gerald and Steven all of Iola; four sisters, Elsie Galemore, Chanute, Mrs. Larry(Mary) Fudge of Iola, Mrs. Alan(Helen) McNabb of Waco, Texas; and Mrs David(Patricia) Griffith, Covington, Ga. A brother, Paul preceded him in death. The funeral Mass will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in St. John's Catholic Church. the Rev. Paul Oborny will be celebrant. Register, May 8, 1987, Submitted by Nancy Willis) Dicy Williams was born in Franklin County, Illinois, June 20th, 1849. When 16 years of age she was converted to an active Christian life and joined the Methodist Protestant church of which she continued a faithful member to the end of her live. On the 22nd of September, 1870, she was united in marriage to Isaac Myers of Marion county, Illinois. To this union were born nine children two of them dying in infancy three sons and four daughters who with the stricken father are left to mourn her death which occurred at eight a.m. of July 17, 1906. Aged 57 years and 27 days. The deceased with her husband came to Allen County Kansas in 1889 and settled on a farm where LaGrande Methodist Protestant church is now located and where they continued to reside until less than two years ago when they removed to La Harpe. Mrs. Myers was of a sweet loving disposition and under all circumstances looked upon the bright side of life. It was one of her characteristics to always look for the good in those about her. She was industrious and economical, and never allowed herself to be found idle. She was highly esteemed by a circle of warm friends. The funeral services were held from the Methodist church at La Harpe, and Rev. G.A.Chambiln of Moran officiating, assisted by Rev. Brooks of LaHarpe, and Rev. Lane of Moran. Text, Revelations 14-13,"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from hence forth yea sayeth the spirit they rest from their labor and their works do follow them." The text and hymns were of her own selection and was a splendid illustation of the good noble life that she had lived. Her family has the sincerest sympathy of the community. (The Iola Register, July 21, 1906, Submitted by Nancy Willis) Effie M. Justus, 80, died Monday, Nov. 20 at Memorial Hospital in Manhattan. Mrs. Justus was born Sept. 6, 1909, on a farm in Allen County, the daughter of William Jackson and Perna Elizabeth Willis Myers. For many years, Mrs. Justus worked in the family business, Justus Upholstery, and then in the 1960s accepted employment with the Kansas Farm Bureau Insurance Company. She retired in 1974. She was a member of the First United Methodist church in Manhattan and was a life member of the Soroptimist Club. On Nov. 23, 1927, she married Harry Luther Young. He died Aug. 17, 1930. On Oct. 24, 1935, she married William Landon Justus. He died Oct. 13, 1970. Survivors include two sons, Paul E. Justus of Amherst, N.H., and Larry P. Justus, Salina, a daughter, Wilma M. Welch, Holton; two brothers, Arthur Myers of Elsmore and Everett Myers, Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Ona Schooley, Gasconade, Mo., Lola Crum, Indianapolis, Ind., and Beulah Myers, Moran; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A grandson Eric Justus, died in 1988. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Edward-Yorgesen-Meloan Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. The Rev. Rob Welch will officiate. The graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Fairview Cemetery at Mildred. The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation. Koester, formerly of Iola, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Blue Ridge Care Center in Kansas City, Mo., at the age of 90. She was born Aug. 15, 1910, on a farm in the Owl Creek area of Woodson County to Thomas and Katherine Walters Reedy. She taught school in rural Woodson County before her marriage to Robert N. Koester on Nov. 18, 1936. they lived and farmed southwest of Piqua. Shortly after his death in 1972, she moved to Iola. when her health failed in 1996, she moved to Kansas city to be near family. She was a member of St. Catharine’s Parish in Kansas City, Mo. She is survived by a son, Donald. R. of Yates Center; three daughters, Roberta Aguirre of Kansas City, Mo., Marlene Wichmann of Lee's Summit, Mo., Mary Jane Jones of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three sisters, Virginia Schrader of Lombard, Ill., Doris Gunther of Leawood, and Mildred Rieke of Shawnee; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grand child. A grandson, two brothers, Charles and Paul Reedy,
and four sisters, Margaret Yohon, Marie Setter, Katherine Reedy and Genevieve Massoth, George W. Myers, LaHarpe, died last night at the Allen County Hospital at the age of 71. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Myers was born in Allen County and spent most of his life in this vicinity. He leaves his wife; a son Ray H. Myers, Bronson; three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Lack, Mrs. Viola Bybee, Mrs. Marguerette Peres, all of Iola; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, John of Clovis, New Mexico, and two sisters, Mrs. George Wetzler and Mrs Hattie Morgan, Pueblo. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Life in the Sleeper Chapel at 2.p.m. Saturday. Burial will be at the Moran Cemetery.
