Anderson County was organized by the Territorial Legislature in 1855. It was named for a member of that first legislature, Joseph C. Anderson. Garnett is the county seat; besides the cities listed at the left, other communities include Bush City, Emerald, Glenlock (Glen Loch), Scipio, Selma, Welda and Mont Ida.
