Death of Ettie Moore
Atchison Globe, August 24, 1885
   Ettie, daughter of Clark and Allie T. Moore, died of cholera infantum, aged three years, eight months and twenty three days. The funeral took place from the residence on Sunday at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Tevis of the M. E. church, after which her remains were followed to Mount Vernon cemetery for burial.


Death of Mrs. Johanna Mueller

   Mrs. Johanna Mueller, aged about forty years, died at three o'clock yesterday afternoon. The funeral will take place today at 4 p.m. from the residence of Albert Weinman, near the brewery.

   Richard Mueller died last night after a long illness.

Death of Will Oatis

   The funeral of Will Oatis yesterday was one of the largest in the history of the city. The remains were followed to the cemetery was the Odd Fellows, the post office employees, Philipp's band, and an unusually large number of friends.

Death of Mrs. Catherine O Donnell

   We regret to learn that Mrs. Catherine O Donnell, mother of J. J. O Donnell, cashier at Symns, Turner and Co., died in Leavenworth this morning. The funeral will take place on Sunday.

Death of Mrs. James O'Donnell
Atchison Globe, October 6, 1882
   Mrs. James O'Donnell died at 1 o'clock this morning after an illness of two weeks. Funeral from the family residence on North Sixth street at 10:00 tomorrow. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.

Death of Eugene O'Keefe
Atchison Globe, August 1, 1887
   Eugene O'Keefe, who was scalded on Friday last by a traction engine which fell with him through a bridge near Pardee, died at 9:25 this morning at the residence of Mr. McAsey, three miles southwest of Parnell. He was an estimable young man of 25 years, and lived with his parents near Parnell, being unmarried. The funeral will leave Mr. McAsey's tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock and arrive at St. Benedict's cathedral at 11, where services will be held, after which the remains will be interred in the Catholic cemetery.

   Died, last night at 8 o clock, infant son of C. J. O Keefe. Funeral from the residence of his parents, corner Ninth and Riley, tomorrow afternoon.

Death of Claude Edward Ostertag
Atchison Globe, June 10, 1879
   Died - At five minutes past eight this morning, Claude Edward, aged sixteen months and three days, youngest son of Anton and Mary Ostertag, of pneumonia fever. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 2 o clock p.m. from the residents of the parents, on Atchison street, between Fourth and Fifth. Friends of the family are respectfully invited.

   Died - April 16th, at 9 a.m., Alice, only child of John H. and Mary E. Palmer, aged 12 years, 10 months and one day. Funeral services will be held at the residence of Mrs. Matilda Hamner, Atchison street, between Fifth and Sixth, on Sunday, April 18, at 10 a.m.

Death of Francis Kingsbury Park

   Died - On Saturday morning at 9:30, Francis Kingsbury, infant son of Richard A. and Anna O. Park. Funeral services at Trinity Church Sunday afternoon at 4 o clock.

   The remains of the Hon. I. S. Parker arrived by the Missouri Pacific express at noon. The funeral will take place from the family residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Remains of Mrs. Virgil Parker

   The remains of Mrs. Virgil Parker arrived over the Pacific today. The funeral will take place tomorrow, with burial at Oak Hill.

Death of Infant Daughter of W. L. and Sallie E. Patterson

   Died - At six o clock this morning, infant daughter of W. L. and Sallie E. Patterson. Funeral at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Burial of Tarleton Pendleton

   Tarleton Pendleton, an old colored man, was buried in Oak Hill cemetery on Sunday. John J. Ingalls, president of the United States Senate, in who family Pendleton had lived a great many years, delivered a brief address over the old man's grave.

Death of Mrs. George W. Pennell
Atchison Globe, January 3, 1882
   The people of the city will be distressed beyond measure to learn that Mrs. George Pennell died last night at 11:30 o'clock, of congestion of the brain. Two hours before her death she gave birth to two boy babies, and came out of the trial in a very satisfactory manner. She had been complaining for several hours of terrible pains in her head, but as she was subject to headaches, it was not thought to be serious. At ten o'clock she was alarmingly ill, and in spite of the prompt assistance of the doctor, she died at 11:30. Both babes are doing well. Notice of the funeral will be given tomorrow.

   Mrs. George W. Pennell was buried this morning at 9 o'clock, from Trinity church, at Mt. Vernon cemetery. The church was crowded to its greatest capacity with friends of the deceased to witness the impressive ceremonies. Before the body was taken to the church the twin babies were christened at the residence. Mrs. Pennell's sister, Mrs. Small, will take them both with her to Wilmington, Illinois.
 

Death of one Twin of George W. Pennell

   The largest of the Pennell twins died yesterday, and the other is expected to die at any moment. Mrs. Small was called home yesterday on account of sickness in her own family.

   Mrs. Henry Perkins, of West Atchison, died this morning, after a long illness.

Death of Mrs. Mary Philipps

   Mrs. Mary Philipps, wife of Frank Philipps, the tuba player in the band, died in this city Saturday, and buried in the Catholic cemetery on Sunday.

Death of Mrs. Peter Quackenbush

   Died - This morning at one o clock, of consumption, Mrs. Peter Quackenbush, aged twenty nine years. Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the family residence on Q street, between 4th and 5th, South Atchison.

Death of Mrs. Anastasia Rank
Atchison Globe, July 7, 1885
   Anastasia Rank died 4:30 a.m. July 7th. The deceased was a native of Davenport, Iowa, and the wife of Charles Rank of this city. She leaves six children, five of whom were at home at the time of her death, and the other, the eldest son, at Moline, Ill. The latter will arrive here to attend the funeral, which leaves St. Benedict's church tomorrow afternoon.

Death of Julia Rank

   Julia Rank, aged nineteen, whose protracted illness has been chronicled in these columns from time to time, died at the residence of the family, 513 North Eight street, at 2:45 yesterday morning. She was a sister of the Misses Rank in Donald s store and of Joe Rank of the GLOBE staff. The funeral occurred this afternoon from the Catholic church.

   Died - last night at 8 o'clock, Timothy Reardan, aged 27 years. Funeral tomorrow from the residence of Mr. Flanagan, Mound Street, west of Twelth. Services at St. Benedict's church.

Death of Mrs. Charles N. Regnier
The Globe, June 21, 1878
   The community was shocked last evening by the sad announcement of the death of Mrs. Charles N. Regnier, at five o'clock. Mrs. Regnier was born on Bingen-on-the-Rhine, and was but a girl at her death, scarcely 26 years of age. She was married July 4, 1874, and has been an invalid for the past two years. Her twin sister arrived at New York yesterday evening on her way to Atchison, and is at this moment speeding westward with the hope of finding her alive. Mr. Ferd Regnier leaves this evening to meet her in Chicago, and they will arrive Tuesday morning, in time for the funeral, which will take place from the Catholic church. May the Infinite Father comfort Charley Regnier and his motherless child.

   Died - this morning, at six o clock, Charles Reynolds. Funeral tomorrow at 2 o clock, from the residence of the late I. M. Ward, on Utah avenue, near Union.

Death of George Richmond

   George Richmond, a farmer living near Lancaster, was overcoming by the heat last evening while pitching hay, at a threshing and despite the efforts of two physicians, died this morning at 5 o'clock. He will be buried this evening and leaves a wife and several children.

Death of Eddie Rohr

   Eddie Rohr, aged seven years and five months, died this morning, of congestion of the lungs. The funeral will take place from the residence, Fourth and Division, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o clock.

Death of Susie, child of C. N. Rouse

   Susie, the five year old child of Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Rouse, died of diphtheria last night, and was buried at 11 o'clock this forenoon. The Rouses will leave this afternoon for Covington KY, to make a short visit.

Death of ten year old daughter of Jerry Rucker

   A ten year old girl of the Rucker family died of diphtheria last night. There is still another case in the family.
 
Death of nine year old son of Jerry Rucker

   A colored boy named Rucker, aged nine years, residing on South Sixth street, in a house adjoining the one occupied by the Davis family, died last night of diphtheria. Another one of the Rucker children is very low with the disease.

   Ida Rucker, the daughter of Jerry Rucker, a colored man employed at Seaton's foundry, and who resides on South Sixth street, near the Washington school, died at 10 o'clock last night of diphtheria.

Death of 16 year old daughter of Louis Sanbone (Sanborn?)

   The 16 year old daughter of Louis Sanbone (Sanborn?), a clerk in the B & M offices in this city, died yesterday of consumption, and was buried today.

Death of Mrs. Senor Simonds

   Mrs. Senor Simonds, aged 80 years, mother in law of T. P. Kelley, former conductor of the Edgerton accommodation train, died last night of old age, and will be buried at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Death of only child of Free Smith

   The only child of Mr. and Mrs. Free Smith, died this morning, at half-past five, age 2 years and one month. Funeral tomorrow at 10 o'clock from the corner of Sixth and Atchison.

   Mrs. E. C. Schweim (Schwenn?), wife of the florist, died at 9 o'clock this morning of childbed fever. The death has been expected for several days. The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Monday.

   Mrs. Carrie Granger Snyder, (Mrs. George F.) at 7:15 Sunday evening. Funeral services at the Congregational church Tuesday morning at 10:00.

Death of Guy Stevens

   Guy Stevens, the 13 (18?) year old son of Mr. William B. Stevens of West Atchison died last night at 10 o'clock of disease of the heart. The funeral will take place from his father's residence, 1422 Santa Fe street, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.

   Died - Yesterday afternoon at 4 o clock, Charles Morris Styles, youngest child of Charles E. and Mollie Styles. Funeral from Trinity church tomorrow morning at half past ten.

Death of John Talbor

   John Talbor, aged 87 years, residing with his daughter, Mrs. Wentworth, at 835 Santa Fe street, died today of old age. The remains will be taken to Savannah, Mo., tomorrow.

Funeral of Mrs. W. S. Thatcher

   W. H. Sears and wife, and J. G. Howe and wife of Macon, Missouri, and Dr. John L. Thatcher of Oregon, Missouri, came in yesterday to attend the funeral of Mrs. W. S. Thatcher. The gentlemen will return tonight, and the ladies remain, guests of Mrs. A. C. Carlson for a week or ten days.

   The funeral of Miss Martha Thomas, aged about 24 years, who died yesterday on the Island north of the city, has been indefinitely postponed.

Death of Mrs. Adelphe K. Todd

   Mrs. Adelphe K. Todd, wife of L. L. Todd, superintendent of the Chicago & Atchison bridge, died at her residence at 8 o'clock this morning, after an illness of several years. Funeral from the house, corner of Parallel and Fifth streets, at half past ten tomorrow morning.

   The seven year old and bright little daughter of Joseph Wade, a farmer living two miles southwest of town, was buried in Oak Hill cemetery yesterday.

Death of Mrs. Mary S. Ward

   Died - At her residence in West Atchison, Tuesday morning at one o clock, of consumption, Mary S., wife of Lewis M. Ward, in the 28th year of her age. Funeral services at the house at half past 2 o clock, Wednesday afternoon.

Death of William Ware
Atchison Globe, August 10, 1882
   Last night at 6:15 William Ware, clerk of the Atlantic House, breathed his last. On the 1st of June Mr. Ware took a trip to Colorado to recoup his health, but it seems that while there contracted a sort of mountain fever, and came home much worse than when he started. Some ten days ago he was compelled to take to his bed, and the day before yesterday his mother was telegraphed for. Mr. Ware was 26 years old, and had been manager of the Atlantic House for six years. Mrs. Ware, mother of the deceased, will take the remains to Chillicothe, Missouri, this evening for burial.

   The remains of Abram Weaver will be buried at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon, in Oak Hill cemetery. Nearly all of his children, including his son, Jas. R. Weaver, Congressman from Iowa, are expected to arrive in the city in time for the funeral.

Death of Mr. Jacob Weinmann
Atchison Globe,July 25, 1889
   Mr. Jacob Weinmann died this morning at 9:35 o'clock, at his home in Walnut township. He was a native of Wurtemburg, Germany, emigrating to this country in 1853, and settling in Atchison in 1859. He suffered from a blood abcess, which broke on Saturday; he lingered until this morning. He leaves a wife and nine children, most of whom are grown. Funeral tomorrow, with interment in the Mount Pleasant cemetery.

   The remains of Will Wetzel were buried in Mt. Vernon cemetery this afternoon. His mother and father are in California, but he has a brother and a sister, Morris and Mary, in Atchison.

   Peter Wines, an old inhabitant, died at his residence at 913 South Sixth street last night, aged sixty nine. His funeral will occur tomorrow morning.

Death of Mrs. Susie Wincheck

   Died - Last night at nine o clock, Mrs. Susie Wincheck, (Mrs. Charley) aged 27 years and 7 months. Funeral from the residence on West Commercial street tomorrow afternoon at 2 o clock and burial in the Mt. Vernon cemetery.

Death of Roy, son and only child of Sam and Nannie Wolters

   Died, at 11 o'clock a.m., April 28th, of membraneous croup, Roy, son and only child of Sam and Nannie Wolters, at the tender age of 3 years 3 months and 25 years. Funeral from their residence in West Atchison tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Death of Hiram E. Woodworth
Atchison Globe, May 17, 1888
   Hiram E. Woodworth, aged 27 years, son of the proprietor of the Windsor hotel, and a clerk in that establishment, died last evening of quinsy. He attended one of the performances at the opera house last week given by the Eunice Goodrich combination and sat in the draught, contracting a severe cold, which resulted in his death. The remains were buried at 4 p.m. today.

   Died - last night at 9 o'clock, of cancer of the stomach, Peter Young, age 68 years. Funeral tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Lutheran church, corner Commercial and Tenth.

   Died - Last night, the youngest child of Rev. Zschoche. Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Obituary of Charles Edward Gresham
C. E. Gresham Died
  Charles Edward Gresham, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gresham, was born at Huran, Kansas, July 23, 1878, and passed away at the Hand hospital January 25, 1949, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 2 days.
  He was united in marriage to Iva Winder in 1905 and to this union four sons and one daughter were born: Lester of Kansas City, Lloyd of Essex, John of Hamburg, Joe of St. Joseph, and Mrs Helen Edson of Shenandoah. Mr. Gresham lived in Kansas until 1934, when he with his family, came to Hamburg. He is survived by his wife, his five children and thirteen granchildren.
  Funeral services were held at the Johnson Funeral Home, Thursday, January 27 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Cecil C. Latta, and burial was made at Mt. Zion cemetery.

Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Markel Gresham
  Gresham - Mary Elizabeth Markel was born in Louisville, Ky., Sept. 27, 1841, and died at her home near Old Huron on Oct. 22, 1919, aged 78 years and 25 days.  At the age of ten she moved with her parents to Harrison County, Ind.
  She married to John Lewis Gresham on Feb. 5, 1863.  To this union were born ten children three boys and seven girls.  One died in infancy and Abbie died two years ago.  The living are: James and Joseph, at home; Charles and Ollie Smith, of Whiting; Ida and Emma Elliott, near Old Huron; Annie Dweese near St. Paul, Kans.; and Sallie Hamilton, of Skidmore, Mo.
  Mrs. Gresham was converted and united with the Methodist church when 16 years old.  She leaves eight children, 29 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and aged sister and many other relatives and friends to mourn her death.  Her funeral was held in the Bethel church on Oct. 24, conducted by Rev. H. I. Miller.  Burial was made in the Miller cemetery.

Obituary of Ollie Gresham Bonstell Smith

MRS CHARLES SMITH OF NEAR HURON DIES
  Mrs. Ollie Smith, 56, wife of Charles Smith of the Old Huron neighborhood, died at one o clock this morning at her home.  Her death was attributed to a stroke of apoplexy, which she suffered a short time previous to her death.  She had been in failing health for the last year and quite ill for the last few weeks.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 oclock tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at the Smith residence.  Burial will be in Miller cemetery in a grave beside that of a son, John, who died in 1912.
  A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Gresham, Mrs. Smith was born near Huron November 8, 1874.  She had resided in the vicinity of that community her entire life, with the exception of a few years spent in Oklahoma and Oregon.  She was born on a farm now known as the Iles place.
  Mrs. Smith was married twice, her first marriage being to the late Arthur Bonsteele in 1896.  Mr. Bonsteele died in 1908.  Two children, a son and daughter, born to them are dead.  John died in 1912 and the daughter, Mrs. Mary Reed, died in 1920.  Two grandchildren survive by her daughter s marriage.
  November 8, 1910, she was married to Charles Smith, who survives as do three brothers and two sisters.  The surviving brothers are James and Joe Gresham of Horton and Charles Gresham of Old Huron.  Mrs. Ida Elliott of Horton and Mrs. Sally Hamilton of Lake City, Ia., are the surviving sisters.
  Mrs. Smith was a member of the Methodist church at Huron and highly respected in the community.

  Smith - Mrs. Ollie Gresham Bonstell Smith, aged 57 years, wife of C. S. Smith, died at her home southwest of Huron, Monday morning, February 8, following a short illness.
  Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, February 9, with Rev. C. M. Foust of Horton in charge.  Interment was made in the Miller cemetery east of Everest.
  Mrs. Smith lived west of Horton on the county line road about a year ago.

Obituary of Ida Gresham Ringo Elliott
Death of Mrs. Ida Elliott
  Mrs. Ida Elliott passed away this morning at 7:40.
  She was born one mile south and one mile east of Pierce Junction in Atchison County on May 25, 1879.  Her maiden name was Ida Gresham.  She was married in 1901 to Luther D. Ringo.  Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Ethel Cox of 346 East Fifth Street, Horton, and Luther D. Ringo of 825 South Fourth street, Atchison.  Luther D. Ringo died in September of 1904.
  August 12, 1910, she married Frank Elliott of Horton.  There are two children, Walter and Charlie; both at home in Horton.
  There are two brothers and one sister living, Sallie Hamilton of Lake City, Ia., Jim Gresham of Horton and Charlie Gresham, post office, Hamburg, Ia.
  The funeral will be held at the Baptist church in Huron at 10 a.m. Saturday in charge of Henderson-Rake.  Rev. C. M. Foust will preach the sermon.
  Mrs. Elliott suffered with heart trouble for a number of years.

Obituary of Sarah Elizabeth Greshman Hamilton

Obituary of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Hamilton
  Sarah Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of John and Mary Greehman, was born May 15, 1866 at Cordon, Indiana, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Otto Weir, in Sheridan, Missouri, Oct 19, 1934, aged 68 years, 5 months and 4 days.
  When she was about one year old the family moved to Kansas where she grew to womanhood.  On January 8, 1886, she was united in marriage to John Gordon Hamilton of Huron, Kansas, and to this union 11 children were born, three of whom have proceeded her in death.
  The most of their wedded life has been spent in Kansas, but for the last eight years the home has been at Lake City, Iowa.  Because of failing health Mrs. Hamilton came, on August 31st of this year, to Sheridan, where she could be in the care of her daughter.
  She leaves to mourn her departure, the faithful husband; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Weir of Sheridan, Mo., and Mrs. Goldia Pierce of Bridgeport, Wash; six sons, Willis of Salem, Ore.; Orville and Joseph of St. Paul, Minn, Archie and Luther of Lake City, Iowa and Eli of Lake View, Iowa; two brothers, James Greshman of Horton, Kans., and Charles Greshman of Hamburg, Iowa; 21 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
  She was a faithful and loving companion and mother has indeed earned her rest.
  Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o clock by Rev. C. C. Pritchard after which the remains were laid to rest in Sheridan cemetery.

Obituary of William H. Gresham

  Mr. William Gresham, who lives south of town, passed into the great beyond last Friday night.  Mr. Gresham is one of the early settlers and was 67 years old at the time of his death.  Funeral services were held Sunday and the body was laid to rest in the Miller Cemetery.

  William Gresham, who had been ill with liver complaint since last winter, died at the home of his brother, John Gresham, at Old Huron, last Friday night, May 5, aged 66 years, nine months and 21 days.
  He was born in Louisa county, Iowa, July 15, 1844, but moved to Indiana with his parents when six years of age, where he grew to manhood.  He came to Kansas in 1868 and lived in this community until his death.
  The funeral was held at the home of John Gresham.  The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. H. I. Miller, and the burial in the Miller cemetery under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of which the deceased was a member.
  He is survived by one brother and nine nieces and nephews.

  Mrs. Joseph Grashon  (name miss spelled real spelling is Gresham)  died at her home south-west of Huron Monday morning at the advanced age of 82 years.  Her husband has only been dead two weeks.  This is indeed a severe blow to the family to loose both father and mother, within so short a time.  The family of the deceased have the sympathy of all in this their sad sorrow.

 Jesse M. Bader, 77, Dies In New York on Aug. 19
  Word was received here this week thru a news bulletin of the World Convention of Churches of Christ in New York that Jesse M. Bader, native of Schuyler and resident of community of Bader, died on August 19 in New York city at age of 77.  Funeral services were held at the First Christian church in Atchison, Kans., on August 23.  He is survived by his wife, who will continue to live in New York.  Mr. Bader was general secretary of the world convention, which he founded and served as first president in 1930.

Obituary for Everett Shufflebarger

Everett Shufflebarger, 81, retired Atchison county farmer who made his home with his son, Robert M. Shufflebarger, 517 Park, died at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon of a heart attack. He was stricken and died while walking in the backyard of the Shufflebarger home. Mr. Shufflebarger had suffered with a heart condition for some time.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Stanton chapel. Burial will be in the Lancaster cemetery.

A son of John and Etta Baliff Shufflebarger, Everett Shufflebarger was born July 21, 1875, in Indiana. When he was a small child his parents moved to western Kansas where they lived on a farm near Bird City. Later the family located in the Lancaster community.

He attended the Bell School, north of Lancaster.

April 16, 1903, he was united in marriage to Edith Grimes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grimes of Atchison county, at the home of the bride north of Shannon.

Mr. and Mrs. Shufflebarger lived on the same farm in the Shannon community until 14 years ago when they moved to a farm in the Deer Creek community, north of Atchison. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in April 1953. She died July 11, 1953. The past two years Mr. Shufflebarger had lived with his son here.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Lancaster.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George (Ella) Kautz, Cummings; three sons, Ray Shufflebarger, Oskaloosa, and Lyle and Robert Shufflebarger, both of Atchison, two sisters, Mrs. Fern Ketchum, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Maggie Wickens, Riverside, Calif., two brothers, James Shufflebarger, Good Intent and Harry Shufflebarger, Atchison, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
