Wm. J. Wells Obituary
Obituary Wm. J. Wells was born in Lancaster County, Pa., Dec. 10th, 1820 and died in this city (Kiowa, Barber, Kansas), Wednesday, Nov. 1st, 1893 making him nearly 73 years of age. At the age of 16 his father moved to Greensburgh, Westmorland County, PA where he was married in '44 to Mary Felgar. In '51 he moved with his wife and three children, two of whom are now living, to Mendon, Adams County, Ilinois. Here he lost his wife who he had spent 10 years of peace and enjoyment. He married his second wife in 1855 with whom he lived in Christain love and peace to time of his death. He enlisted in the army in 1862, serving 3 years. In 1871 he moved to Sumner County, Kansas. In the spring of '85 he came to Kiowa. He leaves a wife and six children. He was converted at the age of 19, from which day to the day of his death he led an active, earnest, devoted, christian life. The last few years of his life he was very death, but always said he enjoyed the spirit of the meeting. He endured his untold suffering without a murmer, saying "Thy will, not mine, O Lord, be done." The last moment of his life was so spent in the presence of the bereaved that enables them to-day to bear their weight of grief as those who rejoice in the glorious hope of the resurrrection. The feeble, death - stung hand received the angel messemger and awoke once more to life, and waved as though passing through the gates of Heaven. Speaking in tones more powerful than words:
My Jesus as Thou wilt. The family have the sympathy of friends to console them as far as such sympathy can extend. Mr. Wells was a man who so lived as to draw around him a host of friends who extend their sympathy in this dark hour.
