Bourbon County was organized by the Territorial Legislature in 1855. It was named for Bourbon County,
Kentucky--a member of the Territorial Legislature, Samuel A. Williams, requested that it be named for his former
home county.
Fort Scott is the county seat and largest city; besides the cities listed at the left, other communities
include Devon, Garland, Hammond, Hiattville, Hidden Valley, Marmaton, Pawnee Station and Xenia. |
