PIONEER KANSANS DIED LAST NIGHT

Mrs. Susan B. Allen and Mrs. Sarah Jane Ross Were Each 91 Years Old

Two aged residents of El Dorado, one of them past 91 years old and the other within three months of that age, died at their homes here last evening. Both had been residents of Kansas over fifty years.

The first of the two aged women to die was Mrs. Sarah Jane Ross, who succumbed about 7 o'clock in the evening after an illness since the first of the week, at the home of her son, Elmer Ross, who lives in the Elmerdale lease, about seven miles southwest of El Dorado. No funeral services had been arranged this morning.

Mrs. Ross had made her home with her son since last April. She came here from Peabody, where she lived with another son, A. F. Ross. Mrs. Ross had been a resident of Kansas since the early days, having homesteaded in Logan County.

The deceased was born on June 19, 1833, in New York state. She later moved to Erie, Pa., where she lived for a number of years and then came to Kansas.

In addition to her sons here and at Peabody, Mrs. Ross is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Stephenson, of Albion, Pa., and Mrs. H. O. Huffaker, of Omaha, Nebr.; and two other sons, J. M. Ross of Alva, Okla., and Nelson Ross, of Post City, Texas.

Mrs. Ross was a member of the Holiness Denomination.

The other aged pioneer to die was Mrs. Susan B. Allen, mother of Frank S. Allen, who also died at the home of her son, corner of West Central Avenue and Atchison Street. She succumbed at 10 o'clock last evening, after an illness of about three weeks.

It is the request of Mr. Allen that no detailed account of his mother's life be published. Mrs. Allen was born on December 20, 1833, at Boston, Mass. She had been a resident of Butler County over fifty years.

Mrs. Allen was a member of the Episcopal Church and for many years was a leading worker in it.

No funeral arrangements had been made this morning.

Both of the bodies of Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Ross are being held at the parlors of the El Dorado Undertaking Company pending the completion of funeral arrangements.
