ATKESON, OSCAR

Sad news from Colorado. Word has been received here that Oscar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Atkeson of Wichita died at Manitou of diptheria and that all the other children of the family and Miss Katie Herig, Mrs. Atkeson's niece, had the disease in dangerous degree and that the baby could not recover. Mr. Atkeson was notified but Oscar died before he could reach Manitou. The authorities would not permit the body to be sent home. Oscar was a fine boy, the only son of fond parents who will have the greatest sympathy from their numerous friends here. (Walnut Valley Times, September 19, 1902, El Dorado, Butler County, Kansas)

Mr. and Mrs H. A. Atkeson, of Wichita, returned September 21, from Manitou Colorado, bringing home the family who have recovered from diptheria and the body of their little son, Oscar, who died of it at Manitou, Colorado. This is indeed a great trial to Mr. and Mrs. Atkenson who have the unbounded sympathy of friends here. (Walnut Valley Times, September 26, 1902)
