ABBOTT, MINNIE
Minnie Abbott, age 73, formerly of El Dorado, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1989 at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Services, Saturday, 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church of El Dorado. Burial follows at Walnut Valley Memorial
Park.
She was born Dec. 14, 1915 at Yates Center, the daughter of James S. and Martha E. (Hackensmith) Guiou. She married
Maurice J. Abbott at El Dorado, Jan. 4, 1935. He died April 15, 1979. She had recently moved to Oklahoma to be
near her son.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Friendship Sunday School class, a member of the Rebekah Lodge
No. 566, Leon, Past State and International President of the L. A. P. M. She was awarded the Decoration of Chivalry
by her lodge. She was also a member of the Rebekah Golden Girls, the Grandmothers Club and The Neighorhood Friendship
Club.
She is survived by son Virgil of Oklahoma City, two sisters, Mrs. Maude Guiou of Denver, and Mrs. Martha Stoll
of Kansas city; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Memorials in her memory for the Kansas Eye Bank may be left at Carlson's Funeral Home, where friends may call.

Services for Minnie May Abbott, age, 73, of El Dorado, were held Saturday morning at the First Christian Church.
Burial followed the services at Walnut Valley Memorial Park. Mrs. Abbott died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1989.
The Rev. Stan Seymour, pastor of the First Christian church officiated. Mrs. Marge Marsh, at the organ, played
the prelude and postlude. Mrs. Janet Vermillion sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," and "Precious
Lord Take My Hand."
Casket bearers were Norman Harper, Garland Hinkle, John Hinkle, John Guiou, Eddie Bishop, and Paul Bishop.

Tom Abplanalp, 84, of Newton, formerly of Burns and El Dorado, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 1991 at the Newton Medical
Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home chapel with burial following in the Pleasant

Tom Abplanalp, 84, of Newton, formerly of Burns and El Dorado, retired farmer and stockman, died Thursday, Jan.
10, 1991 at the Newton Medical Complex. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home chapel
with burial following in the Pleasant Center Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 20, 1906 on a farm in Clifford Township, Butler County, homesteaded by his grandfather. He lived
in the Butler County area all of his life.
On Jan. 5, 1928, he and Edna Wilber were married in Newton. After his retirement, he worked for Gabel's Auto Service
and I.P.S. He attended the United Methodist Church and was a member of Farm Bureau and Burns Coop. For many years
he served on the Clifford Township Board and the school board.
Survivors include: wife, Edna at home; daughters, Thelma Gabel of El Dorado, Joan Gilmore of Wichita, Linda Strasser
of Whitewater, sister Kay Maddux of Santa Fe, N.M., six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
Memorials have been established with the Garvey Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning and Alzheimers

Mr. Abplanalp was born Jan. 20, 1906 in Clifford Township, Kan.

ADAMS, HARRY
Harry Adams, age 85, of Lewis, died Monday, Feb. 20, 1989 at the Lonetree Lodge Nursing Home of Meade. He was a
retired farmer. Survivors includes two sons, Eugene of El Dorado, Dean of Meade, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
He was member of the United Methodist Church of Lewis. Service is 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church
of Meade. The Rev. Donald O'Hara will officiate. Burial follows Wayne Cemetery of Lewis.
Memorials have been established with the Lonetree Lodge Nursing Home, in case of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home

ADAMS,
OPHELIA "PHIL" (Mrs. Ben)
Mrs. Ophelia Adams, age 90, a long time resident of El Dorado, died June 18, 1989, at the home of her daughter,
Sandra Henry of New Orleans, La.
Mrs. Adams and her husband came to El Dorado in 1941 and opened the Roxy Theatre on N. Main, and built and opened
the Star-Vu-Drive-In in the late 1940s. Mr. Adams died in 1957.
Later in 1957, her sister and brother in law, Julie and Paul Schrader, joined her in the operation of the theatres.
Shortly thereafter, the Roxy was sold and Mrs. Adams took over the lease of the El Dorado Theatre. In 1960 she
sold both theatres to her sister and brother in law.
She remained a resident of El Dorado until 1977 at which time she moved to New Orleans to live with her daughter.
She celebrated her 90th birthday, Sept. 24, 1988. (El Dorado Times, Aug. 11, 1989)

EDWARD W.
Edward W. Adams, 75, of Wichita, father of Mrs. Patsy Holloway of El Dorado, died Monday. He was a retired service
station operator.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday in Little Walnut Cemetery at Bodarc.
He is survived by his widow, Laura; six sons, five other daughters and five sisters.
Culbertson Mortuary at Wichita is in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, 1974)
AIKMAN,
CONRAD A.
Conrad A. Aikman, Jr., 64, Wichita, died Wednesday. Mr. Aikman was an independent oil producer and a former resident
of El Dorado.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist church at Wichita. Burial will
be in Belle Vista cemetery at El Dorado. Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home has charge.
He was born in El Dorado June 27, 1906. He married Geraldine Day Feb. 16, 1952 at Newton. He was a member of the
Sunflower Lodge and other Masonic bodies, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Air Force Association,
the Lands and People club and KIOGA, a fraternal oil organization.
He was also a member of the Circus Fans of American and honorary member of the GAR Order of Cincinnati. Active
in civic organizations, he was a member of a number of Wichita civic groups and of the First United Methodist church
there.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Martha Lynn and Barbara Danielle, all of the home; one son, John Conrad
Aikman, of Ponca City, Okla., and one brother, Daniel R., of Hollywood, Calif.
A memorial has been established with the University 70 football program at Wichita State university. (El Dorado

FAYE (VAN METER) KISER
Faye (Van Meter) Kiser Albert, 86 of El Dorado, former Leon resident, died Monday, Dec. 30, 1991. Services were
held Thursday morning at Lamb-Nutter Mortuary in Whitewater with burial following in Wichita Park Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 15, 1905 near Leon, to John R. and Bertha M. Constant Van Meter.
She and Cash Kiser were married in 1924 in Leon. He preceded her in death Oct. 1, 1961. On Oct. 2, 1966, she and
Joe Albert were married in Wichita. He preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1982. She was a member of the First Christian
Church in El Dorado.
Survivors include: son, Cash Kiser of Whitewater, daughter, Peggy Unruh of El Dorado; four grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Wheat State Manor Nursing Home in Whitewater. The Rev. Stan Seymour, pastor
of the First Christian Church, officiated the services. Organist was Mae Lamb and vocalist was Jack Lockwood. "How
Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" were performed.
Casket bearers were Stan Kiser, Steve Unruh, Roy Williams, Jim Dieckhoff, J. C. Fiest and Lawrence Korbel. (El

ALBERTSON, DORIS E.
Doris E. Albertson, 68, of El Dorado, retired Butler County Historical Museum clerk, died Saturday morning, Nov.
28, 1992, at Wheatstate Manor Nursing Home, Whitewater. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral
Home. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
She was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Green Castle, Mo., to Charles Nelson and Clara Belle (Mills) Snyder. She lived in
this area since 1957 after moving from Kirksville, Mo. On Nov. 8, 1940, she and Paul V. Albertson were married
in Unionville, Mo. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in El Dorado.
Survivors include: son, Mitchell of Towanda, daughters, Kathy Kopf of Wichita, Cheryl Brownrigg of Dallas, brothers,
James Snyder of Englewood, Colo., Ira Snyder of Green Castle, Mo.; sisters, Orvilla Phipps of Pueblo, Colo., Ramah
Billington of Green Castle, Maxine Shafer of Novinger, Mo., five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by four sisters.

ALBERTSON,
PAUL V.
Funeral services for Paul V. Albertson, 59, 610 West Fourth, were conducted October 10, at the Kirby Funeral Home
chapel. He died Monday, Oct. 7, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Rev. Albert Rymph, pastor of the First United Methodist church, officiated. Mr. William C. Lange sang "The
Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. A. J. Brazil on the organ. Casket
bearers were Lowell Dennis, Allen Richey, Jack Jenkins, Mervyn Wiltshire, Delbert Williams, and Fred Young. Interment
was at Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
Mr. Albertson was born April 28, 1915, in Green City, Mo. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horatio Albertson (Leora
Law). On November 8, 1940, he married Doris Snyder at Unionville, Mo. They had lived here since 1958. Mr. Albertson
was employed by the City of El Dorado. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Kathyrn Wright of 1101 Clark and Miss Cheryl
Albertson of Arlington, Tex., one son, Mitchell Albertson of Towanda; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Foster and Mrs.
Marie Davidson, both of Augusta, and Mrs. Fleda Brammer of Townsend, Mont.; one brother, Thomas Albertson of Milan,

ALCORN, GLENN D.
Glenn D. Alcorn, 65, of El Dorado, died Friday, March 13, 1992 at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services are 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Cremation will precede the services.
He was born Oct. 14, 1926 in Oklahoma to Hobart and Lena (Simpson) Alcorn. For several years he worked for the
railroad and later worked for the Butler County Highway Department.
Survivors include: brothers, Russell of Wheatland, Wyo., Raymond of Towanda, sister, Phyllis Salmans of Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Clifford, Gene and Homer. (El Dorado Times, March

ALLEN, BROOK
HARRISON
Brook Harrison Allen, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Allen, 1546 Norwood, died of cancer Sunday morning at home.
Young Allen first became ill in 1968 and had a tumor removed. He had more surgery in May, 1970.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Donald D. McCracken,
pastor, will officiate and the casket will be closed. There will be a private burial in Walnut Valley Memorial
Park. Friends may call at the Dietz Colonial Funeral Home at 7 p.m. tonight and Tuesday morning.
He was a seventh grader at El Dorado Junior High School and attended Sunday school at the First Baptist Church.
A member of the Bluestem Campers club, he was also a Times carrier.
Surviving are his parents, one brother, Marshall Christian Allen and one sister Holly dell Allen, all of the home;
his paternal grandmother, Mrs. T. A. Allen, of Wellington and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. B. P. Harrison, of

Mary E. Anderson, wife of John T. Anderson, died
at the home this afternoon at 3 o’clock after an illness of several months.
Mary E. Anderson was born in Harrison County, Indiana, August 22, 1846. She was married to John T. Anderson in
October 14, 1865. In 1871 they moved to Butler County, residing in or near Augusta since.
She had been in poor health for over a year and was bedfast since the latter part of April. Her first trouble
was rheumiatism and later paralysis.
The husband and two sons, Henry and Harvey, both grown, survive her. The funeral will be held from the Broadway
M.E. Church tomorrow, at 3 o’clock. (Augusta Daily Gazette, August 21, 1903, submitted by Judy Mayfield)
