BAKER, ALVIN J.

Alvin J. Baker, a retired carpenter and contractor, a former El Dorado resident who moved to California in the 1940's, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1989 at a Las Vegas hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1904 at Emmington, Ill. His brother, Ted Baker of El Dorado, attended the service, which was held Friday, at the Reformation Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Calif.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn and daughter, Bettie Lievers, both of Las Vegas, son John of Riverside, Calif., and brother Ted, of rural El Dorado, and 8 grandchildren.

He came to El Dorado as a child in 1911. He attended schools here. He was a 25-year member of the Optimist Club as Las Vegas. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 3, 1989)

BAKER, BESSIE COPELAND

Bessie Copeland, age 88 of Tulsa, formerly of El Dorado, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1989, at the Tulsa Medical Center. Service, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1989, Moore Southlawn Funeral Home of Tulsa, Okla. Burial is at South Heights Cemetery, Sapulpa, Okla.

She was born at Alco, Ark., Oct. 25, 1901, the daughter of John Richard and Samantha (Bolinger) Powell. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Carbondale, Okla.

On March 13, 1917, she married the late James M. Copeland. On Oct. 25, 1949, she married Vaughn baker and moved to Tulsa. He survives.

She was employed in the deli of the New York Restaurant (formerly in the 100 block of West Central) for 10 years in the 30s and 40s.

Mrs. Baker also worked at Stephens Auto Supply and the McLellan Stores Company.

Survivors: one daughter, Euda Mosier of El Dorado, two sons, Dr. Leon Copeland of Raytown, Mo., Hollis Copeland of Tulsa and seven grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, two brothers, Lawton Powell of Mountain View, Ark., Albert Powell of Fox, Ark.; one sister, Ina Satterfield of Mountain View, Ark., and numerous nieces and nephews.

BAKER, CHARLES G.

Charles G. Baker, 88, Route 1, El Dorado, died Friday at Knutson Manor. He was born Feb. 15, 1887, in Chelsea Township in Butler County. He was a farmer stockman, living in this area all his life. He retired about eight years ago.

He was married to Ellen Blanche DeWar Feb. 16, 1908 in El Dorado. She died Nov. 3, 1972.

Mr. Baker was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Farm Bureau. He served on the Vanora School Board for many years.

Survivors are two sons, Joe H. Baker, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Clyde D. Baker, Route 1, El Dorado, four daughters, Mrs. Noval (Margaret) Faires, 517 S. High; Mrs. Stewart (Lucille) McCreight, 115 S. Orchard; Mrs. Richard W. (Mary Ellen) Smith, 300 S. Taylor and Mrs. Russell B. (Ruth) Snyder, 1821 Chelsea Dr., all of El Dorado, 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one son, Charles and one sister.

Services will be Monday, 2 p.m. at Dietz-Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, February 22, 1975)

BAKER, HAZEL M.

Hazel M. Baker, 72, of El Dorado, died Thursday, January 5, 1988, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending under the direction of Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, January 6, 1989)

Hazel M. Baker, 72, of rural route 3, El Dorado, died Thursday afternoon at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the services in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Baker was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Kansas, the daughter of Joseph David and Nettie Marie (Coffelt) Gruver. On April 3, 1937, she was united in marriage to Homer E. Baker. Mr. Baker preceded his wife in death on February 22, 1986. Mrs. Baker had lived nearly all of her life in this area. She attended schools in the Cassoday and Burns area. She was a homemaker.

Surviving family include one son, Wayne and his wife, Patty Baker of El Dorado; three brothers, James T. Gruver, Jack Gruver and Glenn Gruver, all of El Dorado; two grandchildren, Brianne and Katelyn Baker both of El Dorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and four brothers.

BAKER, HOMER E.

Homer E. Baker, 79, rural route 3, El Dorado, died Saturday at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Baker was born June 30, 1906 in Fairview Township the son of Jacob Wilson and Minnetta Susan Varner Baker. He has lived in the Butler County area most of his life. He married Hazel Gruver on April 3, 1937.

Since 1920 he worked in the oilfields, and served as the field superintendent for Saco Oil Company at the time of his death. He was a veteran of World War II service in the Army. He was a member of V. F. W. Post 1174.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Wayne Baker, El Dorado, one daughter-in-law, Patty Baker, El Dorado, one brother, Walter S. Baker, Wichita; two sisters, Ida Riggs, Oxford, Vesta Thomas, McPherson; one granddaughter, Brianne Baker of El Dorado.

He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and his parents.

BAKER, JOHN CLIFFORD

John Clifford Baker of Wichita, age 70, died Saturday, April 1, 1989 at St. Joseph's Hospital of Wichita.

Mr. Baker married Dorothy Paul at El Dorado, Feb. 12, 1938. She survives. He was born July 26, 1918, at Lawrence, the son of John Pratt and Martha Rebecca (Eberhart) Baker.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, at Southwest Presbyterian Church of Wichita. Burial will follow at Walnut Valley Cemetery, El Dorado.

BAKER, LEWIS W.

Lewis W. Baker, 80, of Russell, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 1989, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell. Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Towanda Cemetery, Towanda.

Mr. Baker was born March 4, 1908 in Butler Co. He married Ada Viola Ratts, May 3, 1929 at Towanda. She died July 6, 1988. He was a retired Cities Service Pumper. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, and the Russell Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two brothers, Russell and Glen Baker both of El Dorado; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Minnie Baker, 91, of Furley, died Saturday.

She is survived by a son, Clarence Baker of Grove, Okla., seven daughters, Mrs. Ethel Faufaw, Mesa, Ariz; Mrs. Lucy Barker and Mrs. Bertha Miers both of Wichita; Mrs. Florence Lennen, Stelring, Mrs. Viola Eilert and Mrs. Thelma Eilert both of Furley, and Mrs. Pauline Hurn, Cheney; and a brother, Roy Nash, Ringwood, Okla.

BAKER, WESLEY H.

Wesley H. Baker, 61, of Tulsa, Okla., former president of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce and former manager of El Dorado Getty refinery, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1986. Service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, with Rev. Art McGrew officiating.

Mr. Baker was a graduate of Oklahoma University with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the Boston Avenue Methodist Church.

He served as president of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce in 1967. He was former manager of the El Dorado Getty refinery, now the Texaco refinery.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of the home, sons, Bruce of St. Louis, Bob of Houston, Texas and Jim of Wichita; daughter, Christine of Tulsa, grandchild, Emily Claire Baker; two sisters, Lorene Townsend of Anaheim, Calif., and Doris Mayfield of Tulsa.

George J. Ball, 77, of 1046 S. Bedford Terrace in Wichita, retired Electrolux Corp. branch manager and father of Pamela Shreve of Rose Hill, died Friday. Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita.

Mrs. Orval F. Banks (Nellie), 93, 407 North Star, died Monday, Jan. 6, at Mid-America Nursing center. Services will be held Thursday (today) at 10:30 a.m. at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial chapel.

Rev. W. Frank Aten, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate. Casket bearers will be Ed Snodgrass, Lee Carpenter, Virgil Hughey, Paul Weber, Eldon Yarnall and Vernon Peterson. Interment will follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Mrs. Banks was born November 18, 1881 at Winchester, Mo., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson Stout (Ann Rachel Hardin). She married Orval F. Banks December 28, 1904, at Winchester, Mo. He died October 6, 1971. She was a member of the First Christian Church and Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include one son, George Ganks, 1619 Arizona, two grandchildren, Kenneth Banks and Carolyn Hinderliter, and three great-grandchildren.

BANKS, ORVAL F.

Orval F. Banks, 91, 407 North Star Street, died Wednesday at Mid-American Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Dietz Colonial Chapel.Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Born in Clark County, Mo., Mr. Banks came to El Dorado in 1936, from Kahoka, Mo. In his earlier years he was a farmer and later was an employee at Boeing, Wichita. He retired 26 years ago.

On December 28, 1904, he married Nellie J. Stout in Clark County.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and of Walnut Camp No. 7, Royal Neighbors of America.

He is survived by his wife, a patient at Mid-American Nursing Center; one son, George W. Banks, 1619 Arizona, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 7, 1971)

Services for Emory C. Barnes Sr., El Dorado route three, who died October 5, in St. Francis hospital, Wichita, were held October 7 at the Living Water chapel with Rev. Letha Wood officiating. Mr. Barnes was born in El Dorado on November 25, 1930. His parents were Emory E. and Marie Elizabeth (Dale) Barnes. His marriage to Nancy Whitworth took place at El Dorado on April 4, 1957.

Mr. Barnes had lived in El Dorado all his life and had been an oil field worker. He was a member of Living Water Chapel.

Surviving are his wife, two sons and three daughters, Kenneth, Emory C., Jr., Elaine, Brenda and Letha Ann; his mother, Mrs. Marie Call, 116 North Arthur, three half brothers, Jerry Call, Florence; Richard Call of Calif., and Robert Call, Gardner; one half sister, Mrs. Phyllis Randall, Bethalto, Ill.; and his grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Dale, 327 South Poplar. Dorothy L. Barr, 66, of Wichita, a former El Dorado resident, died Monday, May 12, 1986 in Wichita. Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday, May 14 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Wichita.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Barr of the home; a sister, Berniece Elis of Buckner, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Edgar H. (Effie) Barr, 83, of Lebanon, Ore., died at the Lebanon hospital Wednesday after a short illness.

Mrs. Barr was born at Conway Springs, Kan., on Mar. 3, 1885. She lived in Winfield from 1919 until 1934.

Surviving are three sons, Walter Barr of El Dorado, Louis Barr of Albany, Ore., and Leland Barr of Eugene, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Lena Smith of Lebanon, and Mrs. Ramona Gill of Sweet Home, Ore.

Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Milford V. Barr.

BATES, CLARENCE O.

Clarence O. Bates, 88, of El Dorado, Route 2, died this morning at Allen Memorial hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Kirby Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. W. Frank Aten, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born Jan. 31, 1892 at Cherryvale, Kan., he was married to Mary L. Drake on March 3, 1918, at El Dorado. He had been a resident of El Dorado since 1918.

Mr. Bates was employed by the Skelly Oil Refinery as a pipe fitter until his retirement in 1957. He was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Bates was a member of the First Christian church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Skelly Retirees club and Local 5-241, Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Helen M. Estill of Wichita; one son, George W. Bates of Kansas City, Kan., and one niece, Mrs. Bernita Dale of Eureka Springs, Ark. There are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

BEELER, RACHEL (MRS. WALTER)

Mrs. Walter Beeler (Rachel Hanna), 84, Mid-America Nursing Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 25 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services were Saturday morning at Kirby Funeral Home chapel.

Rev. Robert McNary, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church officiated. Mrs. H. W. Bullerdiek provided organ music. Casket bearers were Lowell Griggs, Kenneth Griggs, Doug Griggs, Raymond Griggs, Larry Hutson and Ron Beeler. Interment was at Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Mrs. Beeler was born July 14, 1890 at Maize, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Rush (Mary Susan Johnson). She married Walter Beeler in June of 1917 at Wichita. He died December 12, 1961. She had lived in El Dorado for 50 years.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph J. Beeler of Towanda, James T. Beeler, of Brookhaven, Miss.; Jerry Beeler of Quilcene, Wash., three sisters, Mrs. Nora Dirks of Tuleta, Tex.; Mrs. Eveyln Yates of Wichita; Mrs. Susan Spradlin of San Diego, Calif., 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

BELL, LARRY WAYNE JR.

Larry Wayne Bell Jr., 44 of Pittsburg, passed away Friday, June 8, 2007, at his home. Private family services will be Wednesday. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home from 6:30-8 pm. Burial will be at a later date.

He was born Oct. 21, 1962 in Pittsburg, to Larry W. Bell Sr. and Jo Ann (Hardesty) Bell. Larry attended Pittsburg schools until 1979 when the family moved to Humboldt where he completed his education.

He worked as a welder in the Chanute, El Dorado and Hesston areas and played summer league baseball in El Dorado and Hesston before moving back to Pittsburg in the late 1980s. His last position was with Polytron in Pittsburg where he worked for several years before becoming disabled.

Larry loved the outdoors and he loved to fish with his dad when they were able. He was also an avid Chiefs football fan.

Survivors include: daughter, Jessica Headley of Burlington; son, J.J. Bell of Yates Center; his mother, Jo Ann Bell of Pittsburg; father, Larry W. Bell Sr. of Cherokee; brother, Andrew David Bell of Mountain Home, Ark.; sisters, Kathie Duncan-Bass and her husband Mike of Lamar, Mo., Laura Skinner and her husband Tom of Jacksonville, Mo., and Mary Reeves and her husband Caleb of Pittsburg; maternal grandmother, Lillian Hardesty of Wichita; stepchildren, Alicia and Eli Shaffer of Yates Center; nieces, Trina Duncan and Hannah Reeves; and many maternal and paternal aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mary Kathryn Van Kam Hardesty and Everett N. Hardesty; paternal grandparents, Pearl Storie Bell and Earland R. Bell; paternal uncle, Jack Bell; and maternal uncle, George Davis Lasley.

Mrs. Lowell Bell, 45, of Clinton, Iowa, a former El Dorado resident, died there Monday.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial chapel, with Dr. Joe Riley Burns, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was the former Alice Walker. She was born at Oklahoma City, Okla., on Feb. 1, 1924, and came to El Dorado on Dec. 19, 1959. They moved to Iowa from El Dorado in 1963. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Clinton and of the Friendship Rebekah Lodge No. 10 of El Dorado.

Surviving are her husband; a son, Charles Bell, of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Bell, Anita Bell, and Karen Bell all of the home, her mother, Mrs. Grace A. Walker of El Dorado; four brothers, Paul Walker of Wichita, Herbert Walker of Vancouver, Wash., Roy (Bud) Walker of 517 North Taylor, and Ed Walker of Healdton, Okla., and a sister, Mrs. Herbert R. Long of Orem, Utah.

Mrs. Jack (Viva Mae) Best, age 64, died at Torrance, California, September 21, 1971.

The daughter of Riley and Elizabeth Cline was born at Douglass, Kansas, August 24, 1907.

She was married to Jack C. Best in 1949 at Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors are her husband, Jack, South Gate, California, and two brothers, Tom Cline, Atlanta Kansas and Ora Cline, Atlanta, Kansas.

"My house is small, no mansion for a millionaire, but there is room for love. There is room for my friends. That is all I care."

Services were held at Hilyard Funeral Home, Sunday, September 26, 1971 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Coin W. Rees officiating.

Mrs. Phillip Anderson sang, "Old Rugged Cross," and "How Great Thou Art," accompanied on the organ by Mrs. J. C. Seal.

Bearers were Zack Bush, Wilford Darter, Dave Smith, Clayton Brandon, Raymond Herndon and Harry Darter.

Honorary bearers were: Roy Long, Olave Piper, Carl Coron, Jess Darter, Raymond Lichlyter and Harry Reheis.

BIDWELL, W. L. (BILL)

W. L. (Bill) Bidwell, 91, 1018 W. Locust died Friday evening at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the Kirby Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns cemetery.

Mr. Bidwell was born April 25, 1883, in Atchison the son of Charles and Sara Pratt Bidwell. He married Mary J. Cairo March 18, 1908 in Atchison. She died Dec. 20, 1961.

Mr. Bidwell came to the Butler county area in 1908 and moved to El Dorado in 1918. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad and Skelly Oil Co., and later retired as a carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Bidwell, 509 S. High, and Earl Bidwell, Whitewater; one step-daughter, Mrs. Lena Corning, Modest, Calif., six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, two sisters, and four brothers.

The casket will remain closed at the funeral but friends may call prior to the time of service. (El Dorado Times, February 8, 1975)

BINTER, LEO P.

Leo P. Binter, 66 of El Dorado, died Friday at Topeka where he had been a patient at the Veterans Administration hospital for the past 22 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's church, with the Rev. Dennis Haughney, assistant to the pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Born at Maryville, Mo., on Jan. 29, 1903, Mr. Binter came to El Dorado in 1917. he operated a restaurant for a time. Mr. Binter was a veteran of World War II and was a member of St. John's church.

Surviving are a brother, Charles G. Binter, of 933 North Topeka, three sisters, Mrs. Harry Schafer of Cunningham, Kan., Mrs. John Shonley, 1014 West Second and Mrs. A. J. Leonard 1016 West Second. Two brothers preceded Mr. Binter in death.

A recitation of the rosary is set for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Dietz Pittman Colonial Chapel. (El Dorado Times. Sept. 20, 1969)

BISHOP, OLIVER H.

Funeral services for Oliver H. Bishop, 78, 1235 Ford, who died Friday, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dietz Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in the Chelsea Cemetery.

Born in Oscelola, Mo., he came to El Dorado in 1907 with his parents from Oklahoma. He married Hazel Garabrandt December 19,1923, at Eureka. They made their home in Cassoday for 16 years before moving back to El Dorado.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel of the home, one son, Oliver Richard Bishop, Slater, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. John davenport, 1250 S. Summit and Mrs. R. K. Love, 1418 Sunset Road, and six grandchildren.

His parents, one brother, two sisters and an infant son are dead. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 16, 1971)

BLAISDELL, HAROLD MRS.

Mrs. Harold Blaisdell, 49, of Ellis, Kan., a former resident of the Bluestem area, died Monday at a Hays hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel, with burial in Sunset Lawns cemetery.

Mrs. Blaisdell was born near Latham on Nov. 14, 1919 and was married to Mr. Blaisdell at El Dorado on Dec. 25, 1939. She had lived at Ellis for the past three years. From 1940 until 1966 she lived at Salem, Ill., and Carlisle, Ill., and prior to that resided in the DeGraff area.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian church.

Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Denise Blaisdell of the home, a son, Harold E. Blaisdell of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kennedy of Gordon, a sister, Mrs. Ralph Cooley of Douglass; two brothers, Earl V. Kennedy of Rochester, Ind., and Jack Kennedy of Towanda. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 16, 1969)

BOLIN, LULA C.

Mrs. Lula C. Bolin, 91, a former resident of the Chelsea community, died Friday at Salem, Ore.

Funeral services and burial will be Tuesday at Salem.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Henry Millie of Salem, a brother, W. H. Graham of Tooele, Utah; and a sister, Mrs. Josie M. Peffley of El Dorado. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 10, 1969)

BRIGHT, LAWRENCE W.

Lawrence W. Bright, 70, of 407 North Washington, died early today at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's church with the Rev. Michael R. Blackledge, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. Bright had lived in El Dorado since 1941, coming here from Wichita. He was employed by the Hudson Battery and Electric company for 10 years, and since 1951 had owned and operated a liquor store.

Mr. Bright was born at Wichita on Nov. 9, 1898, and was married to Rene Jenkins at Wichita on Oct. 7, 1926. A graduate of Wichita High School, he attended Kansas State University for two years. Mr. Bright was a member of St. John's church, of the Knights of Columbus, of the Elks and Moose lodges, and the El Dorado County club. He was a past president of the Kansas Retail Liquor Dealers association.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jenne O'Malley, of Neu Isenberg, Germany; and a son, William Bright, 218 South Washington. He was preceded in death by a sister.

A recitation of the Rosary is set for 8 p.m. Wednesday, and a recitation of the Rosary for the Knights of Columbus will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both will be at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 10, 1969)

BRITTAIN, PEARL

Mrs. Pearl Brittain, 91, died Sunday at Knutson Manor.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Dietz Colonial Chapel. Interment will be in Belle Vista Cemetery.

Born March 27, 1880, in Iowa, she moved to Oklahoma with her parents in 1890. She moved to El Dorado in January of 1918 from Liberal.

She married Charles L. Brittain on January 31, 1897, at Enid, Okla. He died April 22, 1955.

Survivors include three sons, Carl A. Brittain, Chetopa, Robert O. Brittain, Gardena, Calif., and Claude I. Brittain, Nashville, Tenn., one daughter, Mrs. Velva M. Carmean, Marion, Ark., one sister, Mrs. Alma Goucher, Hennessey, Okla., eight grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.

A daughter, two grandchildren, one brother and two sisters are dead. (El Dorado Times, October 4, 1971)

BRITTON, JOHN JOSEPH

Florence - John Joseph Britton, 80, a retired farmer, died Monday. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rotz Funeral Home.

Survivors include his widow, Clara; four sons, Howard, Wichita, Clifford, Mulvane, Charles, Florence and Robert, Topeka, a daughter Mrs. Winona Ginavan, Florence, three stepsons, Archie Snyder, Corpus Christi, Tex., Clarence Snyder, Wichita, and three stepdaughters, Mrs. Ruby Marshall, Belen, N.M., Mrs. Hazel Snider, Wichita, and Mrs. Lois Mankley, Topeka. BROTHERS, LEE ROY

Larned, Kan. - Lee Roy Brothers, 57, a city park employee, was killed Friday when he was struck by a tree he was cutting down.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Vernon Memorial Funeral Home.

Brothers and another city employee, Warren Dougan, were cutting down a cottonwood tree. Officials said the tree trunk was rotten inside and it broke away suddenly as the two men were sawing.

Brothers stumbled over a rock as he attempted to get away. The tree fell across his shoulders and back.

He died a short time later.

Born in Oklahoma, he moved to Larned in 1945.

Survivors include his widow, Mary; a son, Jimmy at home; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Burris, Great Bend, and Shirley and Debbie, both of the home; a brother, Marvin, El Dorado, and a sister Mrs. Bessie Christopher Bartlesville, Okla. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 6, 1969)

BROTTON-MAYO, BOBBY DEAN "BOB"

Bobby Dean "Bob" Brotton-Mayo, 70, of El Dorado, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at his home. Friends are invited to a celebration of life to remember Bob Saturday, June 23, 2007, at 4341 NW Hwy. 77 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cremation will precede the services.

He was born Feb. 19, 1937 at Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Jesse R. and Elizabeth (Ellis) Brotton. He graduated from college in California and had served in the U.S. Marines from Jan. 27, 1950 to Jan. 26, 1959. Bob was a field superintendent for Blackburn Construction. He was a member of the Masonic Kem Temple in South Dakota and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He loved to spend time with his hobbies of flying, hunting and rebuilding tractors.

On Feb. 22, 1984 he married Patti Ingersoll in Enid, Okla.

Survivors include: his wife, Patti of the home; son, Rick Crossette and family of Derby; daughter, Shelley Glenn and family of Lebo; son, Carl Crossette of Wichita; daughter, Marie Brotton of Torrance, Calif.; son, John R. Jensen of Park City, Utah; daughter, Merritt Elizabeth Logue and husband David of Caldwell; and a special person, Renee England of El Dorado.

BROWN, MELISSA LANE

Mrs. Melissa Lane Brown, 59, of Wichita, a former resident of El Dorado, died early today at St. Francis hospital in Wichita.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial chapel, with burial in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown had lived in Wichita the past seven years, moving there from Beverly Hills, Calif. She had moved to California from El Dorado in 1935. Mrs. Brown was born here on April 16, 1910, and was educated in the El Dorado schools.

Mrs. Brown had been in failing health for several years and critically ill for a week.

She was married to Richard E. Brown on Dec. 15, 1966, at Wichita.

Surviving are her husband; four brothers, Harmon Lane of 911 West Central, Raymond Lane of Wichita, Norris Lane of Dallas, Texas, a sister, Mrs. A. W. Munson of Pacolma, Calif. (El Dorado Times, March 2, 1970)

BROWN, NELLIE GRANT

Mrs. Nellie Grant Brown, 86 of Yates Center, died Sunday morning.

She was the sister of R. G. Grant, Route 3, and Chester Allen (Dee) Grant of El Dorado. She also leaves a son, William (Bill) Brown, and a grandson, of Kansas City, Kan., and a sister, Mrs. Kittie Belle Braman, Yates Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Smith Mortuary, Yates Center. Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, January 6, 1975)

BULKLEY, HARRY L.

Parsons - Services for Harry L. Bulkley, 64, who died Friday, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Burris-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Auburn, Kan., Cemetery.

Born at Auburn, he came here in 1950.

BULLERDIEK, GLADYS

Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Bullerdiek, 508 North Jones, have returned home from Westboro, Mo., where they were summoned by the illness of his mother, Mrs. H. W. Bullerdiek (Gladys), 78. Her death occurred April 23.

Services were held April 25 in the Westboro United Methodist church.

Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Paul Wheat of Tulsa, Okla. (El Dorado Times, April 30, 1970)

BULLINGTON, FRED

Fred Bullington of El Dorado Springs, Mo., a relative of two El Dorado residents, died there Wednesday morning.

Funeral services will be at El Dorado Springs at 11 a.m. Saturday with burial at Monett, Mo., at 3 p.m.

Among the survivors are a sister, Mrs. Hazel Jeffers, 408 South Star, and a niece, Mrs. Lee Cody, 729 West Ash. (El Dorado Times, February 20, 1969)
