Docia D. (Mrs. Carl O.) Bell, 301 N. Maple, Douglass, Kansas, age 64, passed away July 7, 1977 in Kansas City, Kansas.
She was born December 16, 1912 in Belle Plaine, Kansas. The daughter of Robert C. and Clara Elma Potter Smith. She married Carl O. Bell, Jun e7, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas. She had lived in the Douglass area since 1945.
She is survived by her husband, Carl two daughters, Mrs. Raedine Bond, Augusta and Mrs. Carol Bates, Pawnee, Oklahoma, a brother, Darrew Smith of Council Grove, a half-brother, Carl b. Smith, Manhattan; two sisters, Elma Smith, Douglass and Mrs. Geneva M. Simoneau, Waco, Kansas, and two grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, July 11, 1977 at 10:00

Lonnie Brown, 77, of Rt. 1, Atlanta, died Nov. 30 in the Augusta Medical Complex. He was born May 24, 1900 in Ballard County, KY. He married Ida Douglas, Dec. 27, 1922 in Blandville, Ky. He was a retired Boeing employee and moved to Atlanta from Wichita about 15 years ago.
Survivors are his wife, Ida; one daughter, Bonnie
Price of Atlanta; one sister, Lessie Lee Bearden of Wichita; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Hilyard Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Calkin of the First Christian

Mrs. Herbert (Grace) Deyo, 92, Douglass, died Wednesday at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home there.
Funeral services will be held at the Douglass First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Rev. Jerry Calvert will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass cemetery.
Mrs. Deyo was born Feb. 27, 1885 at Douglass; a daughter of George and Cornelia Stanley Dunagan. She was a lifelong resident of the community.
In 1921 she married Herbert Deyo. He predeceased her in 1957.
Mrs. Deyo was a member of the First United Methodist church of Douglass and a past worthy matron of the Woodbine Chapter 95, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by a brother, G. Leon Dunagan, Douglass.

Grace Dunagan Deyo, age 92, died June 19, 1977 at Colonial Manor in Douglass. She was born February 17, 1885 in
Douglass a life long resident of the Douglass community. She married Herbert Deyo in 1921 in Douglass. He preceded
her in death in1957. She was the daughter of George W. and Cornelia L. Stanley Dunagan. A member of the United
Methodist Church of Douglass and Past Matron of the Woodbine Chapter 95 of the Eastern Star.
She leaves one brother, Leo Dunagan of Douglass.

Ilo Marie Edwards, 61, R. R. 2, Douglass, died November 3, 1977. Survivors include her husband, Raymond, four sons, Armond of Burleson, Texas, Dennis of Duman, Texas, Odell of Hutchinson and David of Hialeah, Florida, four daughters, Mrs. Rometa Seal, Mrs. Gail McKay; Janelle Edwards and Lorie Edwards all of Douglass; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was born March 5, 1916 at Blackwell, Oklahoma to Fred and Mary Getty Trimbell and married Raymond Edwards on May 7, 1933 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. She was a former employee of the Beech Aircraft Company.
Services were in the Douglass Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Calkin officiating. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery.

GIMPLE,
BERTHA REBECCA
Bertha Rebecca Gimple was born September 14, 1889, to Herman Henry and Lutricia Robbins Plage, and died October 8, 1972 at her home west of Douglass Kansas.
She married Earl Gimple on September 21, 1910 in Burr Oak, Kansas. To this union were born three sons; Herman of Phoenix, Arizona; Eldon and Gene of Douglass, Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Lou Ann) Hall of Wellington, Kansas.
Before coming to Douglass some forty years ago she and Dr. Gimple had practiced Chiropractory four fourteen years in Liberal, Kansas. Both practiced in Douglass until health prevented it. Although she did not try to practice a great deal in Douglass, she kept her license up to date.
She was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church and was active in the work of her church as long as her health permitted. She was active in community affairs and truly enjoyed her friends of the church and the community.
Mrs. Gimple was never one to complain and enjoyed life to its fullest.
In addition to the children, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Neil Jackson, Douglass; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funreal services were held Wednesday, October 11, 1972 with the Rev. B. E. Faulkner officiating at the Hilyard Funeral Home.
Mrs. C. A. Ogg played as organ soloes, "What A Friend" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye."
Bearers were Dale Watts, Billie Haskin, Raymond

Eva Ogg Guyot, 86, of Douglass, died Sunday at the Wesleyan Medical Center at Wichita.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church at Douglass with burial in the Douglass Cemetery.
Mrs. Guyot was born July 17, 1891 at Douglass the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown and spent all of her life in Douglass. She was married to Paul Guyot June 30, 1935 at Douglass and he died January 31, 1961. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Douglass, the United Methodist Women and was a housewife.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Herman R. Ogg of Douglass, a sister, Mrs. Anna Bare of Douglass, a stepson, Jack Guyot of Arkansas City; two step-daughters, Mrs. Betty Steel of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Dorothy Eckel of Houston, Tex.; two granddaughters, eight step-granddaughters, and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carrie Kelly died February 9, 1977. She lived at 124 W. Eighth street, Douglass, Kansas. She was born April 21, 1893 in New York. She had lived in this area for 6 months. She was a retired Hat Designer.

John G. Knollenberg, 52, of Douglass, a farmer and employee of Old Mission Cemetery of Wichita, died Monday, September 12.
He spent most of his life in the Douglass Community and is survived by five brothers; Donald and Herman both of California, Lester of Augusta, Clyde of El Dorado and Henry of Douglass; four sisters, Mrs. Fern Harold, Mrs. Helen Biggs, Mrs Mary Cowles and Mrs. Guida Foote, all of Wichita.
Services were held Wednesday, September 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Douglass United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Calvert officiating. Interment in Douglass Cemetery.

Alan D. Parry, 27, Douglass, a truck driver for L A Knebler Construction Co., died unexpectedly September 3, 1977 after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church of Douglass on September 6, 1977 with Rev. Jerry Calvert officiating and burial in the Douglass Cemetery.
He was born March 3, 1950 at Winfield, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Parry Augusta, who survive.
On June 5,1970 he married the former Carol Tatum, who also survives.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Parry leaves two daughters, Tammy and Misty both of the home; a sister, Mrs. Cinda Hosey, Wichita, a grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Parry, Douglass and a great grandmother Mrs. Lou Hutchins, Torrance, California.

Dora C. shade, age 85, of Douglass, died January 12, 1977 in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born May 28, 1891 in Pocahontas, Arkansas the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Sutton. She married Grant Shade in October 1941. She was a resident of Douglass since 1940 and a member of the First Christian Church.

Cyrus A. Young, 87, Douglass, retired pumper for Texas Oil Company, died Monday, October 31, 1977. Services were held November 3, 1977 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Douglass. Rev. Jerry Calvert officiated and a Masonic graveside service followed at the Douglass cemetery.
Survivors included a son, Carl of McPherson, daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ratliff of Wichita, sister Mrs. Nellie Teets of Boulder, Colorado, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted by the Douglass Masonic Lodge #151 which Young was a 50 year member. Young was also a past master of the lodge and was a 50 year member of the Wichita Consistory.
Young was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church. His wife Myrtle, preceded him in death on January 17, 1977. They were married on December 13, 1911 in Wichita and lived most of their lives in the Douglass area.

Myrtle E. Young, age 85, died January 17, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas. Born October 21, 1891 in DeCator, Illinois, she lived in the Douglass area since 1906. She was the daughter of Samuel and Carrie Houser, member of the United Methodist Church and 50 year member of the Woodbine Chapter of the Eastern Star. She married Cyrus Young December 13, 1911 in Wichita.

Born in Douglass, Alger moved here in 1929. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Flying Tigers in China and was a member of Masonic Lodge, Midian Shrine Temple, Wichita Radio Control Club, Moose Lodge, Wichita Dog Training Club, Bulldog Club of America and Kansas City Bulldog Club.

Former Resident of Douglass Dies
Charles R. Alger, 87 of 2655 Salina, died Sunday at his home.
Mr. Alger was born Sept. 25, 1867 at Williamson, N.Y., and moved with his parents to the Douglass, Kan., community. In Douglass he was a furniture dealer and a funeral director.
A veteran of the Spanish-American War, he was a member of the American War Dads and the douglass Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Fairmount Congregational Church in Wichita.
Survivors include a son, Charles L. Alger, 2655 Salina; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Colgin, Haysville, Miss., Charlott K. Alger and Miss Beatrice Y. Alger, both of 2328 Rosenthal; a grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Charles E. Anderson, 69, a native of Douglass, Kan., whose musical career took him to many cities, died Tuesday in a Shreveport, La., hospital.
Anderson who is the father of Wichita attorney, Charles D. Anderson, was born on April 29, 1893 into a family so devoted to music that his father brought a piano by wagon from the family home in Virginia across the plains to Douglass.
Music lessons were hard to come by but Anderson jerked sodas in a drug store to finance his first violin lessons. When the family moved to Coffeyville he continued his studies and helped finance them by playing with an orchestra at the Coffeyville theater. His studies at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago were financed by playing with orchestras in vaudeville houses.
Anderson began his serious career as a violinist with the San Antonio, Tex., symphony orchestra, but returned to Kansas to play with the orchestra at the Miller Theater in Wichita for a time before he was caught up again in the travels a musician's life made necessary.
He was a charter member of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and lived in that city from 1948 until his death.
Anderson is survived by his wife, Dove, of the Shreveport home, two sons, Charles D. of 1900 Nottingham and Richard T of McDill Field, Fla., three daughters, Mrs. Earl Bush, Carlsbad, N.M. Mrs. Louis Riley of North Springfield, Va., and Sylvia Anderson of Rosalia, and nine grandchildren.

Douglass, Kan. - Sept. 24 - Funeral services for Mrs. Nina Bannon, 68, of Douglass, will be held at 2:30 p.m Thursday at Douglass Baptist Church. She died Monday at Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado, Kan., after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 12, 1889 at Cushing, Okla., Mrs. Bannon came to Butler County as a small girl and lived in the Douglass area since that time. She married Claud Bannon a farmer on Sept. 22, 1907. They moved to Douglass five years ago.
Survivors besides her husband, include two sons, Arvy, and Adrian both of Douglass, a sister Mrs. Allis Humbolt, Mulvane, Kan.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Douglass, Kan. June 28 - Luther Marion Bare, 85, a pioneer farm resident of this community died at his home here today. He had moved from his farm east of Douglass upon his retirement several years ago.
Mr. Bare, the son of James P. and Harriett Bare, was born in Birchwood, Tenn., Sept. 21, 1869. The family came to Kansas in 1871 and settled on Little Walnut River near Bodarc.
On Oct. 8, 1893, Mr. Bare married Miss Bertha Bally. Mr and Mrs. Bare celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a few months before her death in 1943.
He is survived by two sons, Floyd, Browning, Mont., and Paul of Douglass; a daughter, Miss Marjorie Bare, a teacher in a Wichita school; three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Hood, Atlanta, Kan., Mrs. Jane condor and Mrs. J. P. Stewart, both of Douglass; three brothers, Homer, Arthur and Will all of Douglass, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday

Born here Nov. 8, 1887, Barnes had been a lifetime resident of the community. He was a member of the Douglass Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Chamber of Commerce.

Death came to Floyd Bacon, pioneer resident and
native of Richland section, just west of Douglass, at his home July 24. He had been bedfast about nine months.
His death occurred on this birthday. He was 73 years old.
Mr. Bacon was born on the Caster place, half a mile north of the farm he had lived on for years. He was the son of W. L. and Cora Bacon. He had been a farmer all his life.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Bacon and one
sister, Mrs. Tom Chance, of Douglass.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge.
Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Karl Magnusson.

Boyd Volkmann Hall, 64, of rural Atlanta died yesterday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Douglass Cemetery. Art Wilson will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Douglass Museum.
He was born July 4, 1916 in Atlanta to Joseph and Mattie Volkmann Hall.
He was a farmer and stockman.
Survivors include a brother, Lee I. Hall of Atlanta; two sisters, Ula V. Holt of Douglass and Ima craig of Winfield.

Nina Hartenbower, 89, Douglass, died Monday, Aug. 23, at the Augusta Medical Complex.

Frank J. Hein, 89, Douglass, died Friday at his home.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church in Douglass. Rev. Gary Bowie will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 29, 1892 in Germany to Wilhelm and Kathryn Kuhn Hein.
He married Anna Mae Bauldwin July, 1930 in Muskogee, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1978.
He was a retired employee of Douglass Grain.
Survivors include a stepson, Hubert McCrabb of Muskogee, a brother, Oscar Hein of Fall River; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lillie V. Lee, 86, Douglass, died yesterday in the Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church with Rev. Paul Calkin officiating and burial in the Douglass Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 23, 1892 in El Dorado to Frank and Stelle Pratt Oliver. She married William Arthur Lee Dec. 14, 1910 in El Dorado. He preceded her in death June 27, 1957.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Douglass.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Lee, Seattle, Wash., a daughter Mildred Boomershine, Wichita; a brother, Robert Oliver, Newton, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchilren. (El Dorado Times, February 22, 1979)

Phyllis L. (Mrs. Lawrence) Alley, 52, Douglass, died Saturday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Douglass Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, three sons, Larry of Douglass, Terry of Augusta, and David at home; her mother, Mrs. Lucille Young; two brothers, Keith and Norman Young all of Douglass, and one sister, Mrs. Wanda Salmans of Lawrence.

DUNAGAN,
NORMAN R.
Norman R. Dunagan, 118 West Fifth, Douglass was the object of am ambulance run early this morning.
The ambulance personnel brought him to Augusta medical Complex after he apparently suffered a heart attack at his home.
Later radio traffic indicated that the area around Dunagan's Douglass home had been secured by sheriff's officers.
An investigation into the Dunagan death is being handled by the sheriff's office.
An AMCI spokesman said the body will be released
to the Hilyard Smith Funeral Home in Douglass. (El Dorado Times, March 2, 1979)

Maxine (Mrs. Raymond) Essex, 62, of Afton, Okla., formerly of Douglass, died Monday. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Douglass United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Rayma Lee Essex of Madison, Wis.; four brothers, Everett Davis of Grove, Okla., Charles Davis of Terre Haute, Ind., Verne Davis of Kingman, Ariz., and Bud Davis of Joplin, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Stacy Clark of Phoenix and Mrs. Gladys Graham of Joplin.

FALER, DAVID
HENRY
David Henry Faler, second child of Andrew and Almeda Faler, was born in Fairfield Conty, Ohio, March 12, 1879.
When a small boy he was brought to Kansas by his parents and located on a farm 4-1/2 miles east of Douglass. There he grew to manhood and farmed for many years.
In 1953 he took up his residence in the Masonic Home in Wichita. Death came to him there January 19th after a short illness.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No.151 A. F. & A. M. Also a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sherman, Belle Plaine, Kans.; Mrs. Lulu Kenley, Roseland, Nebr., a brother Ralph, Fultonville, New York and 12 nieces and nephews.
Services were in the Douglass Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Karl Magnusson officiating. Mrs. Eva Guyot and Mrs. Anna Bare sang Nearer My God to Thee and Jesus Lover of My Soul with Gladys Bare at the organ.

James F. Ford, 71, Douglass, died yesterday.
The retired farmer was born Oct. 26, 1909 at Council Grove and had been a resident of the Douglass community for around 34 years.
His service will be 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the First Christian Church in Douglass with Rev. Gary Bowie officiating.
Ford is survived by two sons, James L. of Douglass
and gale of Seagoville, Texas; a daughter, Donna Mitchell of Douglass, a brother, Lloyd Ford of Howard, three sisters,
Jessie Harold of Ottawa, Elsie Cole of Jetmore and Emma Dalke of Admire, 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

DOUBLE FUNERAL SATURDAY AT 2:30 FOR GALEN AND VICKIE WATKINS
Funeral services are to be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel for Galen Watkins, 22, and his wife, Vickie, 19, who were killed in a two semi-truck crash Tuesday in Haviland, Kansas.
Watkins was west bound driving a semi-trailer truck owned by Don Bloomfield of Augusta. His destination was the Kinsley, Kansas area where the couple lived. An east bound semi jack-knifed and the Watkins truck hit it. The accident happened in the town of Haviland on Highway 54 about 4 p.m. Tuesday. The driver of the other semi is in critical condition in the hospital in Greensburg.
The Rev. William O'Dell is in charge of the services. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.
Watkins was a 1972 graduate of Augusta High School and his wife graduated in May of 1974 from Douglass High School. They were married in April of 1974.
Galen was born on January 3, 1953 in El Dorado. His parents are Roy E. Watkins and Pauline Lavinia Phillips. He married Vickie Sue Sheets on April 29, 1974.
His survivors include three brothers, Roger of Kinsley, Ks; Randy of Rose Hill, Ks.; and Perry of the home of the parents; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Detwiler of Winfield, Ks.; Mrs. Rhonda Hall of Douglass, Ks.; Zeta Ludlow of Douglass, Ks.; and Belinda of the home of the parents; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Watkins of Augusta; and grandparents, Mrs. Pearl Watkins of Enid, Okla.; and Mrs. Lena Gulick of Augusta.
Vickie Sue Watkins was born August 17, 1956.
Vickie is survived by one brother,
Connie L. Sheets, Douglass; five sisters, Kathleen Waber, Wichita; Mrs. Peggy Jo Cabrales, Augusta; and Mrs. Roger
Payton, Mrs. Lindia Stevens, and Mrs. Joyce Smith, all of Douglass; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loraine Sheets of
Douglass; and grandmothers, Mrs. Ethel Sheets of Arcadia, Ks.; and Mrs. Ida Williams of Douglass, Ks.
