
Lifelong Resident of Butler County Dies
George Wilbur Davis, 54, Leon, lifelong resident of Butler County died at Veterans hospital at Wichita Saturday after a lengthy illness.
A butcher by trade, Mr. Davis was born April 14, 1898 at Augusta and lived there until 1902 when he moved to Leon. He was married to Myrtle Anna Banks Aug. 11, 1927 at El Dorado. She survives. He was a member of the Christian church. Mason, I.O.O.F., Eastern Star and Rebekah lodges and was a veteran of World War I. He had attended Kansas State college at Manhattan.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Helen Maxine Worrell, Mrs. Norma Lucille French and Miss Roberta Jean Davis, all of Wichita; three brothers, Roy C. Davis, Leon; Raymond H Davis, Wichita; Howard J. Davis, Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Henry Leott; Mrs. Earl Seymour; Salem, Ill., and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Leon Christian church. Rev. George Cavit, Cheney, will officiate. Masonic graveside services will be conducted in Leon cemetery. The Byrd Funeral Home will be in charge. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 20, 1952)

Myrtle A. Davis, age 82, of Leon, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, 1989, at the El Dorado Nursing Center. Service: 1 p.m. Friday, Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial follows at Leon Cemetery.
She was born June 13, 1907, at Tribune, the daughter of Walter Jacob and Stella Edith Tuel Banks. She spent 62 years in Leon, and had worked for Boeing Aircraft in the electrical department. She was a member of the Leon Christian Church and Naomi Rebekah Lodge No. 566, Leon.
She married George W. Davis, Aug. 11, 297 at El Dorado. He died Oct. 18, 1952.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Worrell and Norma French, both of Wichita, Roberta Sanders of Derby; two brothers, Bill Banks of Ellinwood, Charles Banks of Kingman; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Causey of Pawnee Rock, Mrs. Lucy Wood, Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services for Myrtle A. Davis, age 82, of Leon, were held Friday afternoon at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial followed the serve at Leon Cemetery. Mrs. Davis died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 1989.
The Rev. Michael Guthrie, pastor of the Leon Christian Church, officiated at the services. Mrs. Harold Jones, at the organ, played the prelude and the postlude. Steve Wilson sang "My God and I' and "It Is Well With My Soul."

Florence A. Deichman, 93, formerly of Winfield, died Sunday evening, Oct. 24, 1999 at Winfield Rest Haven. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will be at Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
Born Aug. 15, 1906, near Atlanta, she was the daughter of Christian H. and Alma Wadsack Peterson. She attended Atlanta schools and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1924.
On July 8, 1925, she married Homer F. Deichman in Winfield. They lived and farmed northeast of Atlanta for more than 45 years.
In 1972 they moved to Winfield. Mr. Deichman preceded her in death on July 1, 1984. She had resided at WInfield Rest Haven since 1991.
She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church where she had served as superintendent for many years. She spent her life as a faithful servant to the lord.
She is survived by two sons, Loren K. Deichman and his wife Alvina of Mercedes, Texas, and Olen F. Deichman and his wife Jaunita of Augusta; three grandchildren, Linda Deichman-McAffee, Ron Deichman and Onita Deichman-Altman; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one great-grandchild and her sister, Leona Peterson.
A memorial has been established with the Atlanta United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made at the church or funeral home. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 27, 1999, page 3, column 1)
Augustan's mother dies
Rose Elizabeth Dempewolf, 83, of Blackwell, Okla., a homemaker and mother of Rose Ridder of Augusta, died Tuesday. Services are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.. today at Roberts Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, both in Blackwell.
Other survivors include a son, Joe of Ponca City; daughters, Irene Stegeman, and Ethel Baxa, both of Blackwell, Mildred Sauer of La Crosse and Mary Cullop of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Bernard Schieserecke of Dresden; and 41 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Early Settler in Butler Dies, Burial Tuesday
Barney Doyle was buried in the Sheafer cemetery in Murdock township Tuesday, by the folks among whom he lived for many years. The services were held in the M. E. church at Potwin and under suspices of the Odd Fellows.
Mr. Doyle was about 65 years old. He died in Belle Plaine Monday, from apoplexy. He came to Butler county in 1871, settling first in Murdock township and afterward residing in Benton and Potwin.
Mrs. Doyle died a number of years ago. Ralph Doyle of El Dorado, a son, now is working in Cuba, and a daughter, Bessie Doyle, lives in California. The oldest son of Mr. Doyle, Howard, has been absent for 10 or 12 years and his whereabouts are not known. Mrs. W. W. Welter, a daughter of Mr. Doyle died last summer. Mrs. O. Draper is Dead in Winfield
H. C. Tuttle went to Winfield Thursday evening, called by the serious illness of his daughter, Mrs. Orrin Draper, of Burns, reaching the hospital just a few minutes before Mrs. Draper died.
Mrs. Draper had been in the Winfield hospital for some time and Mrs. Tuttle had been with her since the first of the week. (Walnut Valley Times, Feb. 6, 1914)
James W. Drew, 79, Augusta, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007.
Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hillside Funeral Home, Augusta. Graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Survivors: son, Jeffery; daughters, Barbara Gordon and Kimberly Sherry, all of El Dorado; sisters, Joyce Tabor and Hazel Frazier; grandchildren, Mark, Michael and Bradley; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica.

Mildred Lucille Doornbos, 92, of El Dorado, died Wednesday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services
are 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. Burial will follow the
services in the Chelsea Cemetery.
Mildred was born Sept. 5, 1914 in Lacygne, the daughter of Urban and Lucy Gifford Wilson. When she was five years
old she moved to New Cambria. She graduated from Salina High School with the class of 1932. On Sept. 15, 1935 she
was united in marriage to Harry "Clair" Doornbos. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1997. She came
to El Dorado to live in 1935. She was a wonderful homemaker and farm wife. She was an accomplished seamstress and
quilter. She made all her grandchildren a quilt. At the age of 86, she made all her children a quilt. She loved
being in her garden. She was so proud of all her family and she was the happiest when they were all together.
Memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Martha Circle and Cornerstone Sunday school class. She
was a member of D.A.R., the Chelsea Homemakers, the Ladies Farm Bureau and the Stitch and Chatter girls. For many
years she was a 4-H leader.
Survivors include: three sons, Jerry and wife Mary Doornbos of Scott City, Jim and wife Norma Doornbos and Larry
and wife Jane Doornbos, both of El Dorado; three daughters, Mary and husband Jay Young of Cassoday, Cheryl and
husband Ancil Juby of Casper, Wyo., and Sharon and husband Terry Funk of El Dorado; sisters, Ruth Ljungdahl of
Poteet, Texas, and Alice (Sally) Blakely of Cheshire, Conn.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. (El
