Christian Ammeter, 87, of Burns, a retired farmer and
stockman, died Sunday at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home in Peabody. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the
Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Burns, the Rev. Wayne Sharp officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Church
cemetery.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1896, in Burns, the son of Alfred and Fannie Frey Ammeter. On Jan. 2, 1925 he married Rose
B. Mattheyer in Tecumseh, Okla. Mrs. Ammeter died Feb. 25.
Survivors include his son, Sherwin of Florence; two daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Robert) Ireland of Valley Center and
Carolyn Holm of Wichita; brother, Fred of Pampa, Texas, three sisters, Bertha Harris and Lee Bell of Waverly, Texas,
Rosemary Manning of Newton; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Rose, one sister and his wife.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose B. Ammeter, 80, of Burns, who died Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Peabody Memorial
Nursing Home in Peabody, were held Monday, Feb. 27 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Burns. Burial was
in the Ebenezer Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Ammeter was born April 7, 1903, in Chandler, Okla., the daughter of Robert and Mary Frey Mattheyer. She married
Chris Ammeter at Tecumseh, Okla., on Jan. 2, 1925. The couple had lived in Burns all of their married life until
moving to the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home on Dec. 10, 1983.
She is survived by her son, Sherwin of Florence; two daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Robert) Ireland of Valley Center
and Carolyn Holm of Wichita; two brothers, Robert Mattheyer of Davenport, Okla., and Frank Mattheyer of Chandler,

Elton Edgar "Tony" Bell, 87, retired electric and communications engineer for Phillips Petroleum
Company, of Waverly, Tenn., died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1992, in Waverly. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Kirby-Morris
Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Burns, Kan.
He was born Oct. 3, 1905, in Burns, to Fernanco and Virginia (Smith) Bell. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scotish Rite
Bodies. He was married to Elizabeth Ann (Lee) Ammeter.
Survivors include: wife, Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews.

BOYD INFANT DIES; SERVICES THURSDAY
James Allen Boyd, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Boyd, Burns, died here yesterday afternoon. The baby
was born Sunday.
Surviving are the parents; two sisters, Joyce Elaine and Barbara Kay Boyd, both of the home; and the maternal and
paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brenzikofer, Burns, and Mr. and Mrs. James M. Boyd, Chase.
Funeral services will be held from the Ebenezer church southwest of Burns at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev.
Ben A. White, pastor, will officiate and interment will be made in the Ebenezer cemetery. The body is at the Byrd
Funeral Home.

son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Boyd, Burns, who died here Tuesday. Rev. Ben A. White, pastor, officiated and interment
was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.
Mrs. Arnold Gfeller, accompanied by Miss Theo Jean Knaussman, sang, "Precious Jewels" and "I Think
When I Read That Sweet Story of God." The Byrd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Belle Brenzikofer, 94, of Burns, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion. Services
are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Burns United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Burns. The family
will receive friends and relatives Wednesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home.
She was born April 28, 1910, at Leon, the daughter of John and Sarah Etta (Rogers) Pierce. She was a homemaker
and had also owned a cafe in Burns. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
On Feb. 20, 1933, she married William J. Brenzikofer at Marion. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1987.
Survivors include: sons, Richard of Marion and Robert of Florence; daughter, Joyce McMannis of South Hutchinson;
brother, John K. Pierce of Augusta; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.
Memorials in her memory for St. Luke Living Center or the Burns Community Center may be left with Carlson Funeral
Home who is assisting the family with the arrangements.

MARION - Brenzikofer, Rachelle D'Ann, passed away Jan. 25, 2007 at her home after a long courageous battle
against breast cancer. She was born June 13, 1962 at St. Luke's Hospital in Marion. She was the daughter of Richard
and Rhonda (Rath) Brenzikofer. She graduated from Marion High School and later attended Wichita Area Technical
College receiving her Associates Degree in Accounting. She worked many years as a waitress, and enjoyed interacting
with the community. She later worked as a paraprofessional for the Marion school district. For the past few years
she worked for Western Associates of Marion as a customer service representative and receptionist. She enjoyed
collecting teddy bears and was an avid reader. She most enjoyed and devoted her life to raising and caring for
her only child, Trevor A. Jones of Manhattan, Kan. She is survived by her son; her parents and her sisters, Renae
(Dean) Pusateri of Wichita, Robin (Tom) Adams of Garnett; her nieces and nephew, Amber and Arielle Adams of Garnett
and Andria and Antonio Pusateri of Wichita. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration
of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at Marion Christian Church. A memorial has been established
with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in c/o Zeiner Funeral Home.

Ernest "Boots" Dauber, age 88, of Burns, died Tuesday, June 13, 1989 at Kindran Bethel Nursing
Home of Newton. Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery
at Burns.
Mr. Dauber was born May 2, 1901 at Burns, the son of Gottfried and Elizabeth Bernzi Cofer Dauber. He was a retired
truck gardener, and lived in Burns area all of his life. He was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, and
Modern Woodman of America. He married Nona Sayer, Aug. 19, 1929, in El Dorado. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Don Dauber of Jetmore; and one daughter, Hazel Dixon of Louisburg; one sister,
Ruby Hart of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six
brothers, six sisters. Memorial is with Ebenezer Methodist Church and Eden Mennonite Church of Burns. Carlson Funeral

Mary J. Dauber, 88, homemaker, of Enid, Okla., formerly of Burns, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1993, at the
Enid Regional Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery,
Burns.
She was born Sept. 5, 1905, in Illinois, to John and Etta Rogers Pierce. She moved to Enid in 1980 from Wichita
where she had lived for two years. She lived most of her married life in the Burns area.
On Nov. 10, 1928, she and Frank Dauber were married in Marion. He preceded her in death April 25, 1978.
Survivors include: son, John of Towanda; daughter, Peggy Hodges of Enid, Okla.; brothers, John Pierce of El Dorado,
Jim Pierce of Burns; sisters, Belle Brenzikofer of Florence, Bernice Lutt of Cedar Point, Mae Foster of Augusta;
eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Burns native Nona Marie Dauber, 92, of Marion died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at St. Luke Living Center
in Marion, where she moved in 1995. She was the sister of Laura Parks of Cottonwood Falls.
Mrs. Dauber and her husband, Ernest "Boots" Dauber, operated several businesses in Burns, including Boots
and Nona's Corner Cafe.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery
at Burns. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

McPHERSON - Glenn Nolan Decker, age 91, of McPherson, died February 1, 2007, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He
was born July 17, 1915, on a farm near Moundridge, Kansas to Jacob and Ida (Schmidt) Decker. He graduated from
eighth grade at Happy Hollow country school near Moundridge. Glenn always lamented the fact he did not get to attend
high school because his parents needed him to work on the farm. In Glenn's teenage years, he did some share cropping
and worked in the oil field with his favorite team of horses, Mike and Doc. At age 22, Glenn married Gladys Holmes
in 1937 and started cattle and wheat farming a few miles from the Decker family homestead. They moved to the Burns
community a few years later where he farmed for 39 years. When he went into semi-retirement from farming and sold
his cattle, he went to work for the Kansas Turnpike Authority at the Cassoday toll exchange and worked there five
years. In 1979, they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas and lived there in retirement for 12 years. In 1991, they moved
to McPherson to The Cedars retirement community. After 59 years of marriage, Gladys preceded Glenn in death as
well as daughter, Myna Sue, two great-grandsons, and all his siblings, Orville, LaVerne, Dwight, Dwayne, Twila
Decker, and Inez Huxman.
Glenn served on the Burns Independent School District Board for eight years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau,
National Farmers Organization, and the Burns Co-op during his farming years. He was an avid sports fan, both watching
and participating. He helped organize the Burns men's softball team and developed a mean curve ball as their star
pitcher. In Arkansas, he and Gladys were on two bowling teams and Glenn did a lot of fishing. He was an active
participant on the pool team at the McPherson Senior Center. Glenn will always be known as a man who kept his word,
his "let's get it done attitude" and his magnificent zest for life. He will be greatly missed by family
and friends. Glenn has been a member of the First Christian Church since returning to McPherson.
His survivors include: his daughter, Marjorie Chambers and husband, James, of Katy, Texas; two sons, Nolan Decker
and wife, Chanda, of Enid, Oklahoma and Marlin Decker and wife, Rose, of Katy, Texas; nine grandchildren, Myrna
Rychlik, Brenda Francis, Annette Franklin, Todd Decker, Tyler Decker, Ashley Decker, Wayne Decker, Darlene King,
and Peggy Myers; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sadie Decker and Velma Decker; and numerous nephews, nieces,
and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at First Christian Church in McPherson.
Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Burns, Kansas. Visitation will be from
3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to The Cedars or McPherson Senior Center, both in care of Stockham
Family Funeral Home.

Arnold R. Gfeller, 84, of Rural Route 1, Burns, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1986, at St. Luke's Hospital in

He was born Jan. 9, 1902 in Butler County. He married Alice Brenzikofer on May 9, 1926 in Butler County. He was
a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, and the Farmers Grain Cooperative.

Katherine Gfeller, 86, 1405 Lawndale, died Thursday at Allen Memorial Hospital. She had lived near Burns
most of her life and moved to El Dorado one year ago.
Services will be held Monday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer United Methodist church southwest of Burns and
burial will take place at the Ebenezer cemetery.
Mrs. Gfeller was a charter member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and also belonged to the United Methodist
Women's organization. She was born Dec. 15, 1887, in Clay County and married Arthur F. Gfeller on Feb. 25, 1909
in Burns.
Her husband preceded her in death as did her daughter Emma, one brother and one sister. Survivors include: two
daughters, Rosemary Gfeller of the home, Mrs. Kenneth Locke of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Rose Zieman
of Degraff, Kan.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Walter Heath, 92, died Saturday morning at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Monday in the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery, near Burns.
Heath was born Dec. 9, 1888 in Benton, the son of George and Emma Atkinson Heath. He came to the El Dorado area
in 1966 from Newton. In 1915 he married Fannie Stackley in El Dorado. She died in 1960. Heath was a retired engineer
with the Santa Fe Railroad, having had 59 years of service. He retired in 1966.
Memberships included the Temple Baptist Church, Santa Fe Railroad retirees, the Newton Masonic Lodge and the Shrine
Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Helen Dunnivan, Muskogee, Okla., three sisters, Mrs. Blanch Higganbotham,
Wichita, Mrs. Ida Gaskill and Mrs. Maude Reiserer, both of El Dorado, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Hattie Heyman, 95, of Burns, died Saturday at Peabody Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services will be
10 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Burns, with Tom Bandy officiating. Burial will follow the
services in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
She was a mother and homemaker and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Burns.
Mrs. Heyman, a life long resident of Burns, was born Feb. 27, 18909 in Burns, the daughter of Ferdinand and Josephine
Czern Herzig. She married John Calvin Heyman on Jan. 5, 1910, in Burns. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1962.
She is survived by two sons, Frank of Burns and John H. of Merced, Calif., one sister, Mrs. Rose Edwards of Phoenix,
Ariz.; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

HEYMAN, SOPHIA ELIZABETH "BETTY"
Sophia Elizabeth "Betty" Heyman, age 66, of El Dorado, died at her home, Sunday, Oct. 1, 1989.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial follows at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Mrs. Heyman was born Sept. 4, 1923, in El Dorado, the daughter of Harley and Emma Bayes Poe. She has lived in the
Butler County area al of her life. In 1939 she carried Mason Bullock. In Nov. of 1945, she was united in marriage
to James Heyman. He died in 1963. For many years Mrs. Heyman worked in several area restaurants. Most recently
she did private sitting for families. She attended the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a member of the
VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include son, Larry Bullock of Battle Ground, Wash.; daughter Betty Jane Wardlaw of El Dorado, brothers
Clifton Poe of Apple Valley, Calif., William Poe of Sterling Heights, Mich.; sisters, Virginia Hamilton of Osseo,
Mich., Mary Causey of El Dorado; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home has charge

A lifetime area resident, Mrs. Paul Heymann (Alice), 80, Burns, Route One, died Thursday, June 26, at Allen
Memorial Hospital. Services were held Saturday in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church with interment in the Ebnezer
cemetery.
Rev. O. J. Bernhardt officiated. Organist was Mrs. Earl Hodges and vocalist was Mrs. Herman J. Miller. She sang
"In the Gardens."
Casket bearers were William Wyss, Alan Wyss, Fred Spinden, Sam Spinden, Mark Miller and Glen Strotkamp.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vogleman (Elizabeth Spinden), Mrs. Heymann was born June 14, 1895 in Lincoln
township. She married paul Heymann on June 17, 1917 in Burns. He died May 6, 1975.
Survivors include a son, Harold, Burns route one; a daughter, Pauline Heymann, Cincinnati, Ohio; and a sister,
Mrs. Freda Horton, Hays. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vera, five sisters and two brothers.
A memorial has been established in her name with the cardiac care unit at Allen Memorial hospital. Donations can

A lifetime resident of the Burns area, Paul Heymann, 85, died Tuesday, May 6, at Susan B. Allen Memorial
Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday at the Ebenezer United Methodist church and interment was in the Ebenezer
cemetery.
Rev. O. J. Bernhardt, retired, officiated at the services. Mrs. Herman Miller sang "The Old Rugged Cross,"
accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Earl Hodges.
Casket bearers were William Wyss, Alan Wyss, Fred Spinden, Sam Spinden, Mark Miller and Glenn Strotkamp.
Mr. Heymann, of Burns route one, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Heymann (Johnette Heiman). He married Alice
Vogelman on June 17, 1917, in Burns. She survives him.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Pauline, Cincinnati, Ohio, a son, Harold, Burns, route one; a sister,
Mrs. Annie Notz, Kanorado. Mr. Heymann was preceded in death by one daughter.
A memorial has been established in his name with the Susan B. Allen hospital cardiac care unit. Donations may be

B. Lucille Hunter, 64, of Austin, Texas, died Thursday morning at her home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday
at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Burns.
She was born April 25, 1920 at El Dorado, the daughter of John and Maude Smalley Stackley. She had made her home
in Austin for the past nine years, moving there from Omaha, Neb., where she lived for 19 years. She worked in marketing
and real estate. She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church and S.K.A.L.
She was married to Charles Hunter, and he preceded her in death in 1955.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Russell) Peters of Austin; three brothers, Ralph Stackley and Frank
(Nick) Stackley, both of El Dorado, and Ted Stackley of Newton; three sisters, Ruby Norris of St. John, Kan., Mildred
Fowler of Salina and Rosemary Jones of El Dorado; and two grandchildren, Charlene and Alisha Peters, both of Austin.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; and two sisters.

George Knauss Dies at 91
Succumbs Following Operation at Newton
George Knauss, one of Burns' best known and respected citizens for more than 50 years, died last Thursday
evening at a hospital in Newton, following an operation for acute appendicitis a few days before.
He had been in good-health and active up to a few days before he died, and was seen daily on the street and around
his home with his usual cheery greeting for passers-by.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Ebenezer Methodist Church, with Rev. C. E. King officiating.
A quartet composed of Mrs. Arnold Gfeller, Mrs A. L. Flock, Ralph Gfeller and Mrs. Frank Brenzikofer sang "In
the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "It Is Well With My Soul," accompanied by Jo Ann Holecek. Mrs. Arnold
Gfeller san as a solo, "Goin' Home.," accompanied by Mrs. A. L. Flock.
The pallbearers were Theodore Knaussman, Arnold Gfeller, Chris Ammeter, D. T. Smith, C. L. Bruner and Mames Holecek.
Interment was in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rowe, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ketteman and family,
and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Meidlinger and family, all of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Holt and Janice, Dodge City; Mrs.

Born in Germany
George Knauss was born Feb. 18, 1852, in Wurtemberg, Germany, where he grew to manhood. He was brought up in the
Lutheran faith. In the spring of 1884 at the age of 32 years he came to America settling near Clay Center, Kan.
Here he became a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church of that community.
On April 22, 1884, he was united in marriage to Katherine Ketteman, who preceded him in death Jan. 11, 1928. Five
children were born to this union, one dying in infancy, and Mrs. Elizabeth Notz who passed away at the age of 33.
In 1888, he moved to his farm near Burns where his family was brought up. He was one of the organizers of the Ebenezer
Church, donating the grounds for the church and cemetery and donating liberally of his time and substance to create
a religious center for his family and neighbors. For many years he was a local preacher and was superintendent
of the Sunday school for a number of years.
In 1917 he moved from his farm to Burns where he has since made his home. He had made himself a real place in the
hearts of the Burns people, and he had a place in his heart for young and old. His going leaves a vacant corner
in the town that will be remembered by the youth as well as the older people.
His living children are John J. Knauss of Wichita, Mrs Arthur Gfeller and Mrs. A. G. Zieman of Burns; 13 grandchildren
and 16 greatgrandchildren.
Two weeks ago his friends called on him in recognition of his 91st birthday. He was hale and hearty and able to
greet everyone with his accustomed courtesy.
Funeral services were held July 31 for G.H. Knaussman, Route 1, Burns. The service was held at the Ebenezer
Methodist church with the Rev. R. Bruce Southard officiating.
KNAUSSMAN, GOTTLEB H.
Gottleb H. Knaussman was born Oct. 4, 1886, in McPherson county and died July 28, at the Axtell Hospital
in Newton.
Mr. Knaussman moved to the Burns community with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Karl Knaussman, when he was
13 years of age.
On Feb. 28, 1912, he was united in marriage with Anna Vogelman.
Mr. Knaussman was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church and a member of the township board for many years.
Survivors inlcude his wife, Anna, one brother, T.F. Knaussman of Burns, and one sister, Myrtle Kiffer of Hitchcock,
Texas.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo, who died in infancy, by two brothers, Charles and John, and two
sisters, Mary Gfeller and Katie Knaussman.

JOHN G. KNAUSSMAN DIES; RITES THURSDAY
John G. Knaussman, 75, of Route 1, Burns, a retired farmer and stockman, died early this morning at Allen
Memorial hospital. He had been in poor health since suffering a stroke in 1955.
Mr. Knaussman came to the Burns area with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Karl Knaussman, when he was 11 years
old.
He was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist church and the Modern Woodsmen of America.
He was born Jan. 17, 1889, in McPherson county.
Survivors include two brothers, Gottlob and Theodore F., both of Route 1, Burns; and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Kipfer,
Hitchcock, Tex.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gfeller and Miss Katie Knaussman.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer Methodist church. The Rev. Bruce Southard, pastor,
will officiate. Interment will be in the Ebenezer cemetery.
The Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home is in charge of the services.

Theodore F. Knaussman, 91, of 616 N. Alleghany, died Tuesday morning at a local nursing home. Funeral
services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at
the Ebenezer Cemetery.
Knaussman was born Jan. 16, 1891 in Marquette, Kan., the son of Karl and Wilhelmina Weid Knaussman. In 1899 his
family moved to the Burns, Kan., area where he lived most of his life.
On Sept. 15, 1927 he was married to Ruby Ammeter in the Ebenezer parsonage.
After the death of his wife, he moved to the El Dorado area to live. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World
War I. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, the VFW Post, World War I Barracks and the American
Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Howard of El Dorado and Robert of Emporia; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Theo Jean) Winzer
of El Dorado; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Kipfer, of Hitchcock, Texas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his wife, three brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Contributions can be sent to the Kirby-Morris
Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Fred O. Spinden, 73, of rural Burns, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, at his home. Services will be held at 2
p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Burns. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 30, 1927 to Fred Samuel and Ethel R. (Gray) Spinden in Newton. He lived in the area all his life
except for the time spent in the Army from 1946 to 1947. He served with the Signal Corps. He was a retired farmer
and stockman and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
On June 18, 1950, he was married to Edith Langenegger at the Ebenezer Church.
Survivors include: his wife of the home; a son, Sam Spinden and wife Rebecca of rural Burns; daughters, Mary Frances
and husband Harold Busenitz of Whitewater, Helen and husband Douglas Wiebe of rural Whitewater and Shirley and
husband Larry Brooks of Newton; brothers, Bill Spinden of Bazaar and John Spinden of Cottonwood Falls; sisters,
Ruth Ferro of Springhill, Fla., Mary Beth Argo-Collett of Marion and June Countryman of Wichita; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chalmers.

WYSS, MARTHA E.
Martha E. Wyss, 90, of Burns died Wednesday (Dec. 21, 2006) at Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado.
Celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Burns.
Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Cemetery.
Martha was born July 26, 1916, in Potwin, the daughter of Aaron and Matilda (Kraf) Criger. She attended Wilcox
School. She married William Wyss Nov. 2, 1938, in Burns at the Methodist Parsonage. He preceded her in death in
2003.
She took care of Ebenezer United Methodist Church from 1977 through 1994. Martha loved to sew, fish, cook, bake
and play with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving family includes: sons, Darrell and wife Virginia Wyss, Alan Wyss, and Clifford and wife Cynthia Wyss;
daughters, Sharon and husband Dan Bellis and Loretta and husband Don Patterson; a sister, Nora Moore; nine grandchildren;
and 19 great-grandchildren.
She also is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
A memorial has been established with Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left with the Kirby-Morris
