BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS
WARREN HALL COUTTS, SENIOR
(Transcribed by Peg Luce)
The death of Warren Hall Coutts removes from this community a pious man whose influence always was kindly, wholesome and helpful. He never sat in the seats of the mighty, his was no heroic role when the plaudits of the multitude rang upon the stilly air but he was a leader in his own right nevertheless. For he was a strong man of God. His whole life and being were permeated with the spirit of the Christ whom he served humbly and faithfully throughout his days. Like his Master, he was meek and lowly. He sought nothing that the world deems honors. Wealth was no part of his ambition. But he was wondrously rich notwithstanding rich in a life of service and good works and the peace that passeth understanding. He knew to the fullest the meaning of sacrifice and gave all too freely of his scanty strength to the welfare of his family and friends. Few men in this town have gone down to the grave in greater public esteem or with surer hope of Christian reward. He was aligned with that little band of the pure in heart and the pure in heart shall see God, according to the Holy Writ. So today, as Warren Coutts beholds the magic battlements of the stronghold of the Almighty; he is free and young and renewed in strength like the eagle but there is an aching loss behind him in the hearts of those who no more shall feel the helpful touch of his kindly spirit.
